The Sentimonsters are major antagonists in the 2015 French superhero cartoon series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.

They are magical creatures created by the Peacock Miraculous' power of Amokization, which manifest from powerful emotions. They typically possess special powers and abilities, and as such, are used by evil Peacock Miraculous holders (such as Mayura, Shadow Moth and Argos) to assist in their plans.

Nature[]

Whenever a person feels a strong emotion (ex: sadness, anger, fear, dedication, etc), the holder of the Peacock Miraculous can take one of the feathers from their hand fan and charge it with energy, transforming it into an amok. The amok is then sent towards their intended target (in some cases, the Peacock Miraculous holder themselves), and inhabits an object belonging to them. A telepathic connection is established between the Peacock Miraculous holder and their target, and the holder will have the ability to create a Sentimonster for their target.

The Sentimonsters itself can take upon various different shapes, sizes, and appearances fitting with their recipient and the emotion they felt. In certain cases, the Peacock Miraculous holder can mould their Sentimonster to have a specific ability and/or appearance, such as a perfect copy of another person, with the same appearance and abilities; Sentimonsters such as these are typically much more complex, and capable of free thought. Regardless of the Sentimonster's complexity, they will obey whoever wields the object containing the amok; even if this person is an enemy of the Sentimonster or the Peacock Miraculous holder. Additionally, if the Sentimonster gains a hold of the object, it will be capable of acting on their own free wil.

The amok can remain inside the object even after the Peacock Miraculous holder who used it and/or the recipient of said amok have died/passed away, the resulting Sentimonster will continue to live as well.

If the object containing the amok is broken, the amok will be released, causing the Sentimonster to disappear into nothingness. Similarly, the Peacock Miraculous holder can release the amok and release a Sentimonster, even if they aren’t the one that they created. Additionally, although multiple Sentimonsters can exist simultaneously, a Peacock Miraculous holder can only create one at a time; to create another Sentimonster, they must dispel the one they have already created.

List of Known Sentimonsters[]

Pre-Series[]

  • Animal Sentimonsters: A group of Sentimonsters based on various animals, including a rooster, dog, axolotl, cat, snake, walrus, rabbit, and armadillo, presumably with the same abilities as said animals. Created by the Ancient Chinese Peacock Miraculous holder from unknown emotions.
    • Unlike most other Sentimonsters seen in the series, the Animal Sentimonsters were presumably created for heroic purposes, although it is unknown.
  • Dormant Sentimonster: A frog-like creature that can devour anything, trapping whatever it eats inside an internal pocket dimension. It is later akumatized into Feast, enhancing its abilities. Created by Wang Fu from his hunger and anger.
  • Adrien Agreste: A human Sentimonster. He is the current holder of the Black Cat Miraculous, which he uses to become Cat Noir. Created by Emilie Agreste from her love.
  • Félix Fathom: A human Sentimonster who is identical to Adrien. He is the current holder of the Peacock Miraculous, which he uses to become Argos. Created by Colt Fathom from his jealousy towards Emilie and Gabriel Agreste.
    • Unlike most Sentimonsters seen in the series, Adrien and Félix were manifested as growing fetuses inside their respective mothers' wombs instead of appearing out of thin air as fully developed beings.

Seasons 2 and 3[]

  • Butterfly Sentimonster: A butterfly-like creature able to fly, generate strong gusts of wind, and pierce objects with its stinger. Created by Mayura from Hawk Moth's despair, and later recreated with his determination.

  • Mega Leech: A floating leech-like creature that can split Malediktator into millions of smaller clones, and spread them across Paris. Created by Shadow Moth from André Bourgeois' stress and frustration.
  • Guiltrip: An immobile, circular being that sucks victims into a pocket dimension, where they are subjected to feelings of guilt and will transform into Reflekta copies when they have succumbed completely. Created by Shadow Moth from Juleka Couffaine's guilt.
  • Optigami: An origami butterfly that can possess objects and spy on people, transmitting what it sees directly to Nathalie's tablet. Created by Mayura from her own curiosity and determination.
  • Sentialec: An exact copy of the real Alec Cadalti. Created by Shadow Moth from his own excitement.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Sentimonster" is a portmanteau of the words "sentiment" and "monster".
  • As confirmed by series creator Thomas Astruc, when used for good intentions, the Sentimonsters can be referred to as Sentibeings or Sentis.
  • Sentimonsters are functionally similar to Akumatized villains, being thralls of their creators (the Peacock and Butterfly Miraculous holders, respectively) who are created from strong emotions and gifted special powers to perform specific tasks. Unlike Akumatized villains, Sentimonsters are wholly individual creatures and can be created from any emotion, and moulded into whatever shape their creator desires. They also lack any free will or initiative unless they also possess the object that created them.
