Villain Overview

The Sequids are supporting antagonists in the Image Comics series, Invincible, and the Amazon Prime Video animated adaptation. They are a race of hive-minded parasitic organisms, known for their mind-controlling abilities and collective intelligence through a hive-mind.

History[]

Origins and Enslavement on Mars[]

The Sequids arrived on Mars after their spaceship crash-landed. They attempted to infect the native Martians but were unsuccessful due to the Martians' shape-shifting biology, which rendered them incompatible as hosts. The Martians then enslaved the Sequids and used them as workers.

The Rus Livingston Incident[]

During a NASA mission to Mars, astronaut Rus Livingston was left behind, and a Martian shape-shifter returned to Earth in his place. The stranded Rus was soon infected by the Sequids, who then used his body to unify their hive-mind and lead a rebellion against the Martians. They hijacked Martian technology and launched a ship toward Earth.

Earth Invasion Attempts[]

The first invasion attempt was interrupted by Invincible and the Guardians of the Globe. Despite this, one Sequid survived by hiding within Rus Livingston. Once back on Earth, Rus was again infected and began a second attempt to build a Sequid army by infecting humans. This led to a major confrontation in which Earth's heroes defeated the threat again—though the full extent of their eradication remains uncertain.

Appearance and Biology[]

Sequids are small, squid-like creatures with pink, brain-shaped heads and three tentacles. Individually unintelligent, they become extremely dangerous when attached to a host, forming a powerful hive-mind that allows them to coordinate with strategic precision. Through their hosts, they gain mobility, strength, and intelligence, functioning as a collective super-organism.

Powers and Abilities[]

The Sequids possess a terrifying form of mind control, allowing them to attach to a host and dominate its neural systems, effectively taking complete control over the host's body and actions. Once connected through one or more hosts, they operate with hive-mind intelligence, enabling them to act as a unified, highly strategic entity with shared knowledge and coordination. In large numbers, they demonstrate physical enhancement by merging with hosts or clustering together to form massive, powerful biological constructs capable of overwhelming even superhuman opponents.

Weaknesses[]

Despite their strength, Sequids have critical vulnerabilities. They suffer from host dependency, meaning they are virtually mindless and incapable of coordinated action without a host organism. They also face infection limitations, as they are unable to infect shape-shifting Martians and are ineffective against certain biologically resistant species—most notably Viltrumites like Invincible—due to their advanced physiology.

Trivia[]

  • The Sequids bear a conceptual resemblance to DC Comics' Starro.
