The Sergeant is the main antagonist of the 2014 animated movie Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet.
He was voiced by Alfred Molina, who also voiced Lasombra from Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie.
Biography[]
He was first seen entering the hut, where Mustafa was being kept at. Then he threatened Almitra and left with Mustafa and Halim, but not before getting his foot caught in a mouse trap.
Later, he, Mustafa, and Halim came across a gathering of people at a party and Mustafa asks if he can join, due to how excited the people were to see him free. The Sergeant refuses until he is offered some food, to which he says he can only stay for five minutes. However, the Sergeant ends up falling asleep. After he woke up, he realizes Mustafa stayed longer than five minutes because he was sharing a poem with the others and Halim never did anything about it. Angered, he, Halim, and Mustafa keep on going along with the journey. While he and the others keep walking, Almitra and her seagull friend began to torment him with their antics.
Just like before, they come across another gathering of people and the Sergeant refuses to let Mustafa join the celebration and share his poems until he gets offered some food, to which he says he can only stay for five minutes yet again. Since Mustafa ignored his ideal time limit by telling a poem again, he gets so angry to the point where he goes inside a phone booth to call for more soldiers. Before he can get out though, Almitra locks him in with a broom, trapping him inside.
After Mustafa finishes another poem, he gets rescued offscreen by the soldiers he called for and took Mustafa away for him to see the Pasha. While they get close to seeing the Pasha, a large crowd of Mustafa’s friends and followed start to protest against the Sergeant. Mustafa then clears up the fight and tells a poem about Good and Evil. When he finishes the poem, the Sergeant escorts him to the Pasha and leaves Mustafa with the Pasha.
After Mustafa gets released from prison and still refuses to sign the Pasha’s paper, the Sergeant and the soldiers drive to the hut to confiscate Mustafa’s poems and paintings. However, since Halim, Almitra, and Kamilla got their first and saved his work, he and the soldiers fail to do so. After their failure, the Sergeant and the other soldiers never appear again.
Personality[]
The Sergeant is grumpy, rude, uncaring, cold-hearted, demanding, condescending, and disrespectful (especially towards Mustafa).
