Sergeant Roderick, also known as Mr. Sharky, is the main antagonist of the SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Mrs. Puff, You're Fired". He is a shark driving instructor who briefly replaces Mrs. Puff after SpongeBob fails his driving test too many times.
In his debut episode, he was voiced by the late Robin Sachs, who also played Sarris in Galaxy Quest. In "Sandy, Help Us", he is voiced by Doug Lawrence, who also voices Plankton in the same series, Edward Platypus in Camp Lazlo, and Dr. Machino in Awesome Possum Kicks Dr. Machino's Butt.
Sergeant Roderick makes his first appearance where Mrs. Puff was fired for failing to teach SpongeBob how to drive so many times by Mr. Fitz, so she was replaced by Roderick.
Roderick acts much like a military personal and was very strict, forcing everyone to follow his rules, even throwing two of them through doors when they broke them, causing everyone but SpongeBob to run away. He then makes SpongeBob learn every inch of a difficult driving course, first by crawling, then by walking barefoot with him on his back, then by running through it and finally doing the whole course blindfolded. Soon SpongeBob could complete the course while driving blindfolded.
When it came to SpongeBob's test for his license, he attempted to put on his blindfold but was told not to because driving blindfolded was illegal. Since SpongeBob never learned how to drive without his eyes closed, he begins to drive out of control, destroying part of Bikini Bottom in the process and accidently picking up Mrs. Puff while she was painting. When SpongeBob removes the brake pedal due to a misunderstanding, Roderick jumps out and tries to stop the boat but was easily run over.
Because of the damage he did to the city, SpongeBob failed his drivers test again and Mrs. Puff was rehired, much to her sadness.
In "Sandy, Help Us!", it's revealed that he survived being run over and now works for the Undersea Space Agency. He calls Sandy and tells her that a meteor is heading for the Earth, and that she's the only one that can stop it.

Trivia[]
Roderick is clearly based on Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from the 1987 film Full Metal Jacket.
Despite his name, his uniform rank stripes on his sleeves aren't those of a sergeant but of a corporal. They're also upside down. According to Greek military insignia, however, this is correct.
