My country was stolen from me! I lived in it, ate in it, drank in it! I want to die with it, Yura! I worked like an ox, I turned gray, I… I learned Ukrainian, Yura!
~ Hysterical breakdown of a drunken ex-president.

Sergey is a secondary antagonist of the 2015 Ukrainian political satire comedy television series Servant of the People created and produced by Kvartal 95 and the current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was a comedian at that time.

Sergey was the corrupt president of Ukraine, before he was beaten in the elections by a simple and honest history teacher Vasily Goloborodko.

Ex-president was portrayed by Ukrainian actor and director of theater and cinema, screenwriter, producer, and director of "Servant of the People" Alexey Kiryushchenko.

Appearance[]

The ex-president is an elderly man with gray hair with a bald spot. Stubble after a long binge. He wears strict suits and shirts with ties.

Personality[]

Sergey was shown to be a completely corrupt and hysterically greedy person, ready to take any measures to stay in power, despite his insignificant percentage in the elections. He is also incredibly emotional, sobbing, screaming and even threatening with a shotgun.

Biography[]

Servant of the People[]

Ex1

Ex looks into the hole in the door, which he shot with a shotgun.

Sergey fails miserably in the election to the presidency of Ukraine, receiving only 3.5 percent of the vote, while Vasily Goloborodko received 60 percent. But, the ex-president decides not to put up with this: he locks himself in his office, armed with a shotgun (a gift from the deputy head of the Uzhgorod customs), demands a liter of vodka, a block of cigarettes and political asylum in Yugoslavia (despite the fact that such a country no longer exists).

When Prime Minister Yuriy Chuiko finds out about the incident, he unsuccessfully tries to convince Sergey to leave the post. Then Vasily Goloborodko the new president himself tries to solve the problem. After talking with the ex-president, Goloborodko manages to convince him to leave, as he thought, with speeches of diligence and honesty, but, in fact, Sergey just realized that a person like Vasily would not be able to hold out in such a political terrarium for more than a month. Ex leaves office and asks Yuriy Chuiko to call him when re-election is scheduled.

Servant of the People 2. From love to impeachment[]

The ex-president meets with the oligarchs and offers them cooperation in return for getting a position of prime minister after Yuriy Chuiko was arrested for corruption crimes. However, at the same time, President Goloborodko is trying to bring the oligarchs to clean water, so they need a scapegoat, which is what Sergey, who has so fortunately came to them himself, becomes. The ex-president finds himself behind bars, where he meets Yuriy Chuiko.

However, it is implied that the ex was released from prison soon after, perhaps, by the will of the oligarchs.

Quotes[]

Goloborodko: What's going on?

Bella: Your predecessor has locked himself in the office, does not let anyone in, yells that he is legitimate. He demands a liter of vodka, a block of cigarettes and political asylum in Yugoslavia.
Goloborodko: But, Yugoslavia does not exist.
Bella: He knows that… that's why he demands vodka.

~ Presidential Secretary Bella tells Goloborodko about what happened.
Ex: This is a mistake!

Yuriy: How can there be a mistake? It's 60 percent.
Ex: The mistake of all people!!! But I forgive them! I'll give them a second chance!

Ex: *crying* They have plundered the country!

Trivia[]

  • It is strongly hinted that the image of the ex-president was inspired by Viktor Yanukovych, the real fourth president of Ukraine, who was exiled from the country in 2014.
    • However, the version of Viktor Yanukovich is canonically exists in the Servant of the People universe.
  • Ex's long-lasting gag is the Italian song "Bella Ciao, which he himself sings in his first appearance, and which Yuriy Chuiko sings when they met in prison.
  • Another gag is an apricot pit, which Yuriy asks ex to spit out when he ate an apricot in tears.
