Sergueï is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Pink) of Rayman Raving Rabbids and the main antagonist of both the DS version of the same name and the spin-off PC game Rayman Raving Rabbids Activity Centre.
He is a timid Rabbid who is a member of the elite force and responsible for capturing and taking Rayman to the coliseum where he is challenged to be gladiator through mini-games. He serves as a prison guard who guards Rayman's cell while unaware that Rayman tends to use each plunger to escape his cell by reaching a window. In other versions, he is the leader of the Rabbids who leads them in invading the Glade of Dreams to conquer the world.
He was voiced by Steve Blum, who also voiced many versions of Starscream.
Biography[]
Rayman Raving Rabbids[]
Sergueï is one of the first Rabbids to be encountered by Rayman where he regroups with the other three Rabbids who managed to capture the three Baby Globoxes and spotted him having a picnic. He grabs Rayman and takes him away to the coliseum where he then throws him at the center with all the Rabbids demanding to prove him worthy as their gladiator. In the first three days, Sergueï would throw Rayman back to his cell and throws each of the first three plungers the next time he shuts the door to wait for Rayman to be ready for the next day. From then, he will continue to grab Rayman to toss him to the center and throw him back to the cell when he completes each day from day one to day six.
In days six to ten, Sergueï begins to start treating him better as he instead opens the door for Rayman to enter the cell and stand firm when Rayman prepares for the next day of the minigames following him as a personal bodyguard and protector. In days ten to fifteen, his mood entirely changes for the better as he arranges a choir for the Rabbids to show their gratitude to Rayman and each time Rayman enters, he prepares the choir while continuing his honor of being his bodyguard. Following Rayman having collected all the plungers to make his escape, it is said that he and the other Rabbids are unaware of his escape, as he doesn't even care about Rayman fleeing, showing that Sergueï has a code of honor that prevents him from trying to capture Rayman again due to his improved mood and overall friendliness.
He has a few appearances in the minigames in the video game. In "Bunnies are bad at peak-a-boo", Sergueï serves as the main guard of the door where Rayman has to carefully sneak to the door and point his hands at the circle to avoid being caught, otherwise he will be caught in the act, resulting in Rayman passing out. Getting close to him will result to Rayman making a move to slip under the gate, taking the advantage to escape Sergueï before he has the chance to catch him. In "Bunnies have no memory part 2", he is one of the Rabbids who are given a memory sounder game for the player to remember and pick. Choosing the wrong answer will result to the other Rabbids screaming while Sergueï will swat his hand in disappointment. In "Bunnies have natural rhythm", Sergueï is shown to have a distaste for music and turns off each music box each time one is being played. When one is being played, he will begin panicking and runs knocking down any Rabbid, including Rayman, to shut the music off.
Rayman Raving Rabbids Activity Centre[]
Sergueï is given the role as the sole main antagonist in the PC spinoff version of Rayman Raving Rabbids. In this version, he serves as the leader of the Rabbids who used the Rabbid's Ship to arrive to the Glade of Dreams where his Rabbids set foot on the world and began their invasion to conquer it. Realizing the destructive catastrophe the Rabbids have waged for their conquest, Rayman figured that the best way to put an end to the invasion is to have the Rabbids retreat to the ship to get them back where they came from. In the graveyard section, Sergueï would be seen on a tower as he observes to keep a close eye on the Rabbids. As Rayman does so, he manages to hide his cover to prevent the leader from taking notice before going back off guard.
After Rayman manages to successfully beat the Rabbids and sends them back to the Rabbid's Ship, the invaders manage to flee the world with their plots to takeover the Glade having been foiled by the hero. Not all Rabbids have fled, as Sergueï was left behind by his forces where he witnessed being abandoned by his once formidable army, but has relocated to the abandoned coliseum to have the area as his new home to stay. As the only Rabbid on the Glade, he roams the halls of the coliseum as a guardian to keep it safeguarded, only to be beaten by Rayman.
Rayman Raving Rabbids (DS)[]
Sergueï makes his appearance once again as the sole main antagonist in this version. In this version, he originally started out as a gladiator of the Rabbids before both earning their entertainment as a champion for his reputation and rising up as their emperor. Under his leadership, he organizes the Rabbids into a powerful empire and emerged where he led the invasion across the Glade of Dreams and successfully conquered it. Despite his success, he knew Rayman would come to put a stop to his tyranny and in doing so made a deal with the fellow creatures who wish to collaborate with him in exchange for freedom with the most notable example of collaborators being the Trolls. Sergueï then organizes a plan to capture Rayman by orchestrating the Rabbids to assault and capture him when he made a failed attempt to escape.
Knowing the odds of how he could possibly liberate the Glade from Sergueï's regime at a time of being a gladiator at the coliseum, Rayman uses the doors to each location of certain areas of the world where he fought against the Rabbids and the collaborators who swore their allegiance to their emperor. Throughout the course of the game, Rayman manages to defeat both Colossus and the Rabbid Fish Creature where he meets face to face with the mastermind behind the invasion. After collecting at least 90 Trophies, he makes his battle against Sergueï in the snowy area, where he is seen a lot larger than last time and missing his legs while riding a UFO.
In the first wave, Sergueï will summon an orb which Rayman uses his Rayman Gear's shields to deflect it back to him where he takes damage and calling in reinforcements of Rabbid Tanks and Rabbid Copters to fire before his attack repeats. His second attack is summoning an orb this time shielding himself to attempt to deflect the orb back only for Rayman to do the same method but also shoot at the orb to empower it and damage Sergueï. Once this was repeated, Sergueï will do his final summoning of a more powerful orb which Rayman must carefully use the step to use the plunger to pull him further to shoot the orb at him. After this repeats and ends, Sergueï eventually gets weakened and shrinks himself to get to the UFO and makes his escape, abandoning the Rabbids and putting an end to his reign of terror. With his rule brought to an end, the Rabbids have reformed from their villainy and celebrated the liberation of the Glade with Rayman at the beach.
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2[]
Though he did not make a return in the sequel, he is seen in the North American cover art as he manage to climbed onto the Eiffel Tower and holds onto it.
Appearance[]
As a Timid Rabbid, Sergueï is notably larger than the other Rabbids as he possesses a gorilla-resembled body compared to the rest. His fur is entirely black with the exception of having white fur on both of the palms of his hands and a white fur-less belly and head with red eyes and scars whilst wearing a metal muzzle that covers his mouth. He has a notable difference in his appearance in the DS version where he was seen now much larger with the metal muzzle now being a part of his cybernetic implants with white shades on and lacks the legs with a small UFO attached to him, being used to hover in flight and may shrink himself to fully enter the UFO to operate and fly it by himself.
Personality[]
In Rayman Raving Rabbids, Sergueï originally started out as being violent, aggressive and abusive towards Rayman as he constantly throws Rayman directly to his cell and at the center of the arena. However from the start of Day Six, he is a lot softer deep down when he has shown his kindness and loyalty to Rayman when he becomes his personal bodyguard. In the final days, he shows his highly respectful and delightful side where he presents a choir to appreciate Rayman to give him the highest respect for his reputation as a famous champion.
In the DS version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, his personality is shown to be different from his console version. While he possesses his aggressive and abusive traits from his console counterpart, he was portrayed as being more hegemonic, power hungry and tyrannical when he rose up from being a gladiator into their leader and willing to lay waste on certain areas on the Glade with his effort to conquer it and capture Rayman for being a potential opposition to his rule. While he does allow Rayman to be a gladiator to entertain the Rabbids, he takes measures on giving his forces to oppose him in not only becoming a champion but to intercept his mission to liberate the Glade and is highly intolerant to failure when he allows the Rabbids to steal some of Colossus's parts and letting them have him go through an overhaul that painfully harms Colossus as a result of his failure. During the final battle, he shows his strategic side where he summons each orb to destroy Rayman onboard the Rayman Gear and signal the Rabbids to fight the hero. When defeated, he shows his fear and humiliation following his loss and escapes in fear for his own life, even at the costs of having both his tyranny and championship brought to an end.
Trivia[]
- He serves as a parody of King Kong from the King Kong franchise.
- In the wanted poster, it is revealed that Sergueï is 23 years old.
- Sergueï's model is based on the enemies of the prototype version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, Rabbid Bouchers, which would become the Giant Rabbids in the Gameboy Advance version of Rayman Raving Rabbids.
- During the early production of the DS version of Rayman Raving Rabbids, Dark Rayman was originally to take the role as the main antagonist under the alter ego Miss Black Bunny. This was scrapped and changed with Sergueï being the main antagonist instead.
- If Rayman doesn't defeat Sergueï in time when they reach the end of the snowy area, he will make his moment to leave unharmed to continue on with his control of the Glade, resulting to an instant death and the final battle level will restart.
