~ Serpo to Okarun.

The Serponians are major antagonists in the anime/manga series Dandadan. They are a race of mechanical all-male aliens who come to Earth to steal humans' reproductive organs to study and replicate them. They serve as minor antagonists during the Turbo Granny Arc, and are the main antagonists of the Serpo Arc.

They are voiced by Kazuya Nakai in Japanese and Ben Diskin in English.

Appearance[]

The Serpo, while under their disguises, mostly resemble regular humans, wearing collared white button-up shirts, pants, belts, and shoes. The most distinguishing characteristic of these disguises, however, is their disproportionately large heads, hollow eyes, broad smiles, and black hair.

In their true forms, they maintain a humanoid shape, with rectangular, slug-like heads, eyes that protrude from the sides, and large lips. A black line pattern stretches from their heads to their legs. Their hands have only four fingers, with two of those being thumbs on opposite sides. They have no toes, but their feet are split to somewhat resemble them.

Biography[]

A trio of Serpo first appear when Momo Ayase enters the abandoned Nagi Hospital and quickly abduct her when she notices their presence. In their ship, they inform her of their male-only biology and cloned nature, which led to an evolutionary standstill and the death of their individuality and basic emotions. They plan to rape and dissect her for future study. However, they are interrupted by the arrival of a Turbo-Granny possessed Okarun, and the awakening of Momo's psychic powers due to the Serpo's psychic abilities. This combination leads to their defeat, and Okarun and Momo escape.

Later, another trio of Serpo appear when they lock Okarun, Momo, and Aira inside the Empty Space. They employ the Dover Demon to confront Okarun and Aira, and Nessie to intercept Momo. The Serpo reveal they are interested in the Turbo-Granny's power, wanting to extract it from Okarun for their own gain. Aira awakens the Acro-Silkie's abilities, and Momo arrives to join the battle. The combined efforts of the group overpower the Serpo and Dover Demon, causing the last remaining Serpo to fuse with the Dover Demon and Nessie. This fusion creates the grotesque monster, Serpod Dover Demon Nessie, with the powers of all three creatures.

The trio struggles against the monster's water blasts and shockwave punches. They manage to turn the monster's power against it by dividing the water around them at the moment of impact, shattering its arms. Okarun then runs through the monster, decimating it in the process.

In Nagi Hospital, a trio of Serpo is attacked by a mysterious alien seeking their technology. After the Kur are defeated, a group of Serpo investigate the technology left behind by the invaders, dubbing them as The Kur and expressing concern for their plans of domination and apparent alliance with Count Saint-Germain.

Powers and Abilities[]

The Serpo are a highly advanced alien race, capable of designing sophisticated spaceships and cloning technology, as well as modifying their bodies with mechanical enhancements to facilitate their research and experimentation. These enhancements include specialized devices in their groin area that serve multiple purposes, such as simulating male genitalia for reproduction with female subjects, scissors for removing male reproductive organs, cables for merging with other aliens, and a syringe for healing.

The Serpo also possess powerful psychic abilities, allowing them to exert their will on others and even pin a possessed Okarun to a wall. However, these abilities can be countered by individuals with equal or greater psychic powers, such as Momo Ayase. The Serpo can also use their psychic abilities to induce a state of physical arousal in their test subjects, which is often followed by rape and extraction of reproductive organs. However, this manipulation can be resisted by individuals with strong minds and willpower.

In addition to their psychic and mechanical capabilities, the Serpo have developed tools to counteract mind control, such as an iron-like device that can be used when two are placed between the brainwashed alien's head, effectively reversing the mind control.

The Serpo are depicted as a wealthy and resourceful race, capable of enlisting the assistance of other powerful monsters, such as the Flatwoods monster, the Dover Demon, and Nessie.

Personality[]

The Serpo are a violent and intelligent race, yet they are oblivious to the harm they cause to their victims. They believe themselves to be a peaceful race, only ensuring the safety of their own kind. The Serpo have also demonstrated manipulative behavior, as seen when they threaten the Gig Worker to cut his raise after he is knocked out by Momo Ayase.

They are egotistical, showing little concern for the well-being of others. They do not hesitate to berate the Gig Worker and the Loch Ness Monster, referring to the former as replaceable and the latter as useless.

However, despite their shortcomings, the Serpo are not beyond reason or compassion. This is evident in the character of Rokuro, a rogue Serpo who, despite holding Momo Ayase accountable for his "defective" personality, goes out of his way to help her defeat the Kur and uncover information on the missing golden ball from the police files.

Trivia[]

  • Their disguises are similar to Peter Griffin from Family Guy, but they are skinny.
