~ Seth attacking with his Black T.Rex.
Max, you were right. When I tried taking the cosmos stones before, I was blinded by their power. But I now better now. You've all done your part. Now it's time to do mine... and put an end to this once and for all!
~ Seth, sacrificing himself to save the universe.

Seth is the overarching antagonist of the Dinosaur King franchise.

He is a deceitful and fixated scientist, previously a loyal follower of Dr. Z, who conducts extensive experiments on dinosaurs with the intention of facilitating their "evolutionary" progress. Following his treacherous act of exposing himself as the mastermind orchestrating the entire plot, Seth cunningly seizes command over the Alpha Gang's time machine in a bid to alter history into one where the dinosaurs never went extinct and creating a future filled by his modified species.

Once he was transported to the vast expanse of space-time, he found solace and purpose among the enigmatic Spectral Space Pirates who had come to his rescue. Within their ranks, he became an invaluable asset to Spectre, aiding him in handling the formidable dinosaurs that crossed their path. As their adventures unfolded, he hatched a cunning plan to further their ambitions by creating powerful entities named Gigas, Armatus, and Maximus. These entities, coupled with his devious scheme to abduct Max, Zoe, and Rex's parents, were intended to coerce the trio into assisting them in their quest for dominance over space and time by uncovering the fabled Cosmos Stones. However, as fate would have it, he ultimately betrayed his newfound comrades in a desperate attempt to claim the Cosmos Stones solely for himself. Yet, as the tale pressed on, a profound change of heart overcame him, compelling him to risk his very existence in a selfless act aimed at obliterating the Dark Pterosaur.

Seth is voiced by Daisuke Hirakawa in the Japanese version and by Marc Thompson in the 4Kids English dub.

Appearance[]

Despite the consistent nature of his attire across different adaptations of Dinosaur King, there are notable differences in his outfit when comparing the original series to the ones based on Mesozoic Meltdown in various forms of media. However, it is important to note that his clothing is not the only aspect that sets him apart visually. Alongside his consistent wardrobe, he possesses distinct characteristics such as vibrant blue spiked hair, along with a fair complexion, and intriguing triangular reddish tattoo markings positioned beneath his eyes.

In his usual attire, he dons a long overcoat that boasts a rich dark red/brown hue, featuring the iconic Alpha Gang emblem positioned on the left side. This overcoat is equipped with a small pocket and a high collar, which he ingeniously utilizes in the animated series to stow away various items, ranging from a Velociraptor card to a lightning rod. Adding to its functionality, there are two additional pockets adorning either side of the coat, providing him with ample storage space. To complement the overall ensemble, he wears matching fingerless gloves that share the same color as the trim on his coat. Completing the outfit, he wears pants and sturdy boots. Although he never removes his coat, it can be reasonably assumed that he wears a shirt or some other garment underneath, ensuring both comfort and modesty.

Following his induction into the Spectral Space Pirates, he decides to alter his wardrobe. His new ensemble includes a captivating white-and-black cloak that gracefully drapes over a splendid blue jacket, adorned with pristine white sleeves and delicate trim. To secure this magnificent jacket, he fastens a vibrant red belt, meticulously matching the hues of his attire. Beneath this outer layer, he dons a pair of pristine white pants, which impeccably blend with his navy blue boots, completing his striking new look.

Personality[]

In the beginning, Seth was known for his calm and reserved nature. He rarely let his emotions show, keeping them hidden from others. However, as time went on and the series progressed, Seth's true character began to emerge. He started experimenting with altering and empowering dinosaurs, convinced that he was helping them as a species, regardless of their individual experiences. This belief justified his actions in his own mind. As a result of his increasing obsession with his experiments, he eventually reached a point where he rebelled against Dr. Z in order to avoid being betrayed, which was a predictable outcome when dealing with someone like Dr. Z. This rebellion also led Seth down a path of madness, as he became consumed by his own success and lost touch with reality. However, everything changed when Seth joined forces with the Spectral Space Pirates. Surprisingly, his calm demeanor returned, and he seemed to regain control over his emotions. Despite rebelling against his new allies, Seth still managed to maintain his composed side. It was evident that he took pleasure in shattering Spectre's false perception of him, relishing in the opportunity to show his true nature.

However, despite his darker tendencies, he is extremely committed to honoring his promises, as evidenced in a specific incident in episode 36. In this particular episode, Seth made a promise to Max that he would return Chomp's card and release his friends if Max followed his instructions to throw the Alpha alloy into a vat of molten iron, even though Seth did not disclose to Max that this action would ultimately benefit the Alpha Gang. Remarkably, Max complied with Seth's request, leading to Seth fulfilling his promise by having the Alpha Trio release their captives, much to their surprise. Seth's integrity in keeping his word was evident in this situation, even if it meant he would shoulder the blame for losing the card. Furthermore, as a consequence of their actions, the factory is now on the brink of an imminent explosion.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Seth hails from the distant future, specifically the year 2126. In this era, he held the position of an assistant to the esteemed parents of Rex, Dr. Ancient and Dr. Cretacia, as they embarked on a monumental mission to the Mesozoic period. However, Seth's loyalty took a treacherous turn when he betrayed his mentors by aiding Dr. Z in seizing control of the timeship. Unfortunately, their nefarious plan met an unforeseen obstacle in the form of Jonathan, who valiantly attempted to thwart their actions, ultimately leading to a catastrophic crash of the timeship in the present day.

Season 1[]

After that point, he collaborated with Dr. Z to mend the camouflaged Zeta Point island, dedicating countless hours to ensure its complete functionality. His role mostly involved operating behind the scenes, working meticulously to fix any issues that arose. Occasionally, he would take to the skies, embarking on missions to recover individuals or valuable items that were needed for the island's restoration.

However, during this period, his true intentions were far more sinister. Secretly, he was plotting to seize control of the entire island and manipulate the dinosaurs into undergoing a radical evolution. His ultimate goal was to create a species capable of surviving the catastrophic meteor strike that had wiped out the dinosaurs during the Cretaceous Period. Seth's twisted curiosity led him to envision a world where these evolved dinosaurs would reign supreme. This malicious plan was revealed to Max and the rest of the D-Team when they encountered Seth for the first time in "Metal Imbalance". The group was shocked and appalled by Seth's blatant disregard for the natural order, instantly labeling him as the most despicable member of the Alpha Gang. It was during this encounter that Seth also showcased his independent project, a groundbreaking innovation in card manipulation. He ingeniously transformed a Velociraptor card, originally lacking any elemental attributes, into a new triangular shape capable of containing multiple powerful Moves.

Throughout the majority of the initial season, Seth exhibits infrequent usage of dinosaurs due to his limited involvement in field work. However, in episode 36, he takes control of Terry and effectively employs his recently modified Velociraptor Move Card trio to triumph over Chomp. Realizing that the Alpha Trio remains ineffectual, Seth subsequently loans the Move Card to Rod and Laura. Additionally, he covertly starts assigning them missions to capture dinosaurs, concealing this operation from Dr. Z. Helga stumbles upon this revelation in the episode "Beast or Famine", yet her attempt to confront Seth results in her being incapacitated by an electrified prod and abandoned temporarily.

After coming to the realization that Jonathan is still present in the midst of the chaos in "Planes, Trains and Dinosaurs", the determined protagonist takes his loyal companion, Tank, along with him on a pursuit to catch up with him. With unwavering determination, he skillfully tracks down Jonathan and proceeds to execute a cunning plan to retrieve valuable information stored within the android's memory banks. Utilizing Tank's immense power, our protagonist successfully overpowers and defeats the formidable Ampelosaurus using the remarkable Dino Swing technique, skillfully claiming the dinosaur's coveted cards for the renowned Alpha Gang.

In the episode "Full Scheme Ahead", Jonathan devises a plan to test his new Super Move called Fire Scorcher and to obtain a perfectly preserved Tyrannosaurus skeleton for his upcoming experiment. He asks Terry to test the Super Move, but unfortunately, it doesn't work as expected. Determined to make it successful, Jonathan secretly modifies the captured Saurophaganax so that it can withstand the power of the Super Move. Meanwhile, Rod and Laura take a tired Terry to Dr. Drake, which catches Jonathan's attention and leads him to Zeta Point. This unexpected arrival forces Seth to reveal his true intentions and betray Dr. Z. Jonathan uses the modified Saurophaganax to attack both the Alpha Gang and the D-Team. However, the D-Team manages to raise Zeta Point, which is a flying ship, again. Jonathan faces off against the Alpha Gang once more and defeats Tank and Ampelosaurus, the dinosaur that he had previously captured for them. With the Alpha Gang defeated, Jonathan ejects them from their own base.

After successfully bringing the Tyrannosaurus fossil back to life, Seth transforms it into the enormous and altered Black T-Rex. He unleashes this formidable resurrected dinosaur upon Sanjo City in a final, devastating move that seems impossible to overcome. The Black T-Rex proves its invincibility by withstanding Chomp's Lightning Spear and Terry's Volcano Burst attacks. However, Seth is faced with an unexpected setback when the Black T-Rex's energy is depleted faster than anticipated. As a result, he is compelled to recall the creature. Realizing the urgency to retrieve the D-Team's Stone Tablets, Seth reluctantly joins forces with the Alpha Gang. Together, they devise a plan to infiltrate and search for the Stones. Seth makes an attempt to reclaim the tablets using Saurophaganax, a powerful dinosaur under his control. Although Saurophaganax manages to defeat Terry, who had previously defeated it, the tables turn when Chomp and Ace combine their forces to execute a Fusion Move attack. This attack proves to be too much for Saurophaganax, resulting in its defeat and the loss of its card to the D-Team.

In "Dinosaur War!", a fierce unfolds atop the Backlander as the team faces off against the Black T-Rex. Desperate to gain the upper hand, Black T-Rex resorts to using replicated Stones in an attempt to manipulate time. However, these flawed copies inadvertently merge the ancient dinosaur era with the present, causing chaos and confusion. In a bid to rectify the situation, Black T-Rex tries to fix the malfunctioning Stones. However, his plans are thwarted when Chomp, who has been reduced to a pet-sized creature, bites his hand. The Black T-Rex finds himself caught in the midst of a colossal dinosaur army, engaged in an intense battle. Ultimately, the relentless onslaught of the Super Fusion Move proves too much for him, causing him to disintegrate into a burst of energy. With his defeat, the failed time warping attempts are reversed. As the dust settles, a mysterious time portal materializes in front of the counterfeit Stones, pulling Seth into its grasp. In a desperate attempt to save him, Seth clings onto Chomp, who is being held onto by Max and the rest of the team. However, Chomp unexpectedly opens his mouth, releasing his grip on Seth, and he is forcefully sucked away into the time stream. To Seth's surprise, he finds himself rescued by a stranded group known as the Spectral Space Pirates, who have been marooned in the time vortex. Armed with his newfound knowledge of the time vortex and powerful dinosaurs, Seth becomes an integral member of the Space Pirates. He takes charge of preparing their dinosaurs for each mission and is responsible for designing their Spectral Armor. Seth also reveals to the pirates the existence of Dr. Ancient, who possesses a crucial Cosmos Stone detector. This information leads to the abduction of the D-Team's parents, as the pirates seek Dr. Ancient's assistance.

Season 2[]

Once again, he operates in the background during the season, remaining hidden until the midway point. Throughout his time, he subtly influences the events unfolding. For instance, he manipulates Dr. Ancient into staying at work and guides Shear towards taking charge of the untamed Isisaurus Genie rather than providing her with another dinosaur. As the season progresses, he undertakes the construction of a groundbreaking variation of Spectral Armor specifically designed for their modified dinosaurs. Additionally, he appears to be the subject of Spectre's concealed affection, although this holds no significance to him as his loyalty is merely a facade. His ultimate objective is to lay claim to the Cosmos Stones, harnessing their immense power to annihilate the current existence and forge a completely new one under his command.

In the episode "Bad Deal", Seth cleverly stages his escape from the menacing Space Pirates when the D-Team finds themselves in the perilous Jurassic Period. To divert Dr. Z's wrath, he cunningly presents a cute and miniature goo dinosaur, which eventually evolves into a formidable Gel Jark creature. Taking advantage of this unexpected ally, Seth successfully pilfers the highly coveted Red and Green Cosmos Stones that the D-Team had valiantly retrieved. Throughout this thrilling season, Seth also possesses a unique Cryolophosaurus, a secretive dinosaur armed with ice-based attacks, distinguishing him as the sole primary combatant without any protective armor.

However, it is not until the thrilling episode titled "The Search for the Last Cosmos Stone" that Seth finally decides to utilize his newfound ally. This astonishing turn of events occurs just as the heroic D-Team and the treacherous Space Pirates find themselves engaged in a deceitful trade, involving a counterfeit Black Cosmos Stone and the fictitious parents of our beloved D-Team. In a daring move, Seth seizes the opportunity to claim victory by confiscating all six of the Pirates' Cosmos Stones. With his trusty Cryolophosaurus, the formidable Gel Jarks, by his side, Seth fearlessly faces off against the Space Pirates' genetically altered dinosaurs. Astonishingly, he effortlessly overpowers them, all without the aid of any protective armor. Rejecting Spectre's enticing offer of forgiveness and a potential return to the fold, Seth showcases his unwavering determination as he freezes the Space Pirates with the devastating power of Blizzard Smash.

With the path clear, Seth dashes towards the D-Lab, determined to achieve his nefarious goals. Unfortunately, the Space Pirates, who have been wreaking havoc all along, cause further destruction to the D-Lab. Amidst the chaos, they successfully snatch the Cosmos Stones, merging them into a powerful entity known as the Dark Pterosaur. The stakes have never been higher as our heroes are left to face this formidable foe. In "Clash for the Cosmos Stones", the Pirates launch a surprise attack on the retreating Backlander within the time vortex. As chaos ensues, Seth, one of the main characters, accidentally drops the precious Cosmos Stones. However, amidst the chaos, Chomp manages to defeat Cryolophosaurus with an impressive move called Final Thunder. Meanwhile, in a surprising turn of events, a Gel Jark, a dangerous creature left behind by the Pirates, causes havoc within the ship as it arrives, intending to bring the remaining Cosmos Stones to Seth. With his plan falling into place, Seth unleashes an attack called Snow Crystal, forcefully knocking away the dinosaurs of both the D-Team and their rivals, the Alpha Gang. But Seth, being cunning and resourceful, quickly reclaims Cryolophosaurus' card, along with the elusive Black Cosmos Stone. He then escapes in an escape pod, cleverly manipulating the situation to bring him back to the present. In a shocking twist, he holds the D-Lab hostage, luring the D-Team into his trap.

Unfortunately, the tremendous strain on the Backlander's engines leaves Seth in a comatose state. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Dr. Ancient and the Alpha Gang act swiftly, placing Seth in stasis and transporting him back to the future aboard the Space Pirates' ship, which they have successfully recovered. Concerned about Seth's recovery, Max anxiously inquires about his condition. To his relief, Rod assures him that although the healing process is slow, Seth is gradually regaining his strength and making progress towards a full recovery. Driven by the urgency to rescue their captured parents, the D-Team bravely boards the nefarious Space Pirates' ship. Meanwhile, Seth, fueled by the immense power of the Stone Tablets, takes control of the Backlander and fearlessly charges towards the Dark Pterosaur's inner form. The ship is fortified and protected by the Pterosaur, effectively shielding it from harm. In a stunning display of heroism, Seth's calculated maneuver results in the destruction of both the Stone Tablets and the Cosmos Stones, ultimately saving the entire universe. In "Fate of the Cosmos", Gel Jark rescues Seth from the wreckage and comes to a profound realization. He understands that the immense power of the Cosmos Stones should not be controlled by anyone, not even himself. With this newfound understanding, Gel Jark generously provides new replicated Stones to both the D-Team and the Alpha Gang. This allows them to continue their battles with dinosaurs, all the while utilizing the original Stone Tablets to power their spaceship, the Backlander. This clever strategy allows them to counteract the overwhelming energy emitted by the Cosmos Stones.

Manga[]

In the manga adaptation, Seth's character is more extensively developed, providing readers with a deeper understanding of his background. Referred to as Nopiece, a name closely resembling his Japanese counterpart, Nopis, Seth emerges as a valiant hero associated with the tablet. In his pursuit to acquire this significant artifact, he aligns himself with the Alpha Gang, strategically utilizing their vast resources. However, when Max unexpectedly enters the scene carrying the coveted tablet, Nopiece seizes the opportunity and snatches it away from him. Nevertheless, Rex, one of Seth's adversaries, surprisingly unveils another tablet he had stumbled upon after successfully vanquishing them in battle.

In the midst of Max's desperate pursuit to recover the tablet that Nopiece had snatched away from Rex, an unexpected turn of events unfolds. Rather than simply retrieving the stolen item, Max surprises everyone by offering one of the two tablets to Nopiece and proposing a battle. If Nopiece emerges victorious, he can regain his status as the rightful hero of the tablet. Against all odds, Max emerges triumphant in this unexpected showdown. However, the urgency of the situation intensifies as Alpha Mountain, the very ground beneath their feet, begins to crumble and disintegrate. With time slipping away, Max is left with no choice but to abandon his quest for the remaining tablet and focus on escaping the impending catastrophe.

Seth is typically depicted in the DS game, omakes, and promotional pictures alongside an Irritator. In these instances, his character is often seen commanding and interacting with Water Dinosaurs, with a particular emphasis on controlling the mighty Spinosaurus.

Game[]

In the arcade, Seth is known as the main enthusiast of Water Dinosaurs, and he possesses a cunning nature as a geneticist, often speaking in a manner that is both mysterious and foreboding.

In the DS Game, the protagonist is sent to North America with Ursula in Chapter 3. They are stationed at the Alpha Gang's Warehouse in eastern South Dust Hills. After defeating Ursula, she sends the player to face Seth as a form of punishment. Seth is the sixth and final boss of the Alpha Gang that the player must fight in the main story. Unlike the other bosses, Seth had not interfered with the player or local town before this encounter. He underestimates the player's abilities and chooses to face them with only one Spinosaurus instead of a full party of three, making him the only boss to do so. However, after being defeated, Seth reveals his secret weapon - another Spinosaurus that has been modified to never lose at Rock, Paper, or Scissors. Despite this unfair advantage, defeating Seth causes a remarkable event to occur. The Stone in the player's DinoShot starts glowing, and as a result, their starter dinosaur awakens in its upgraded form - Awakened Triceratops for Max and Awakened Carnotaurus for Rex. Recognizing their strength, Seth acknowledges the player's worthiness and willingly hands over the sixth Stone Fragment without engaging in another battle.

During the intense boss rush in Chapter 4 of Antarctica's Alpha Gang Headquarters, players must first conquer the formidable challenge of defeating each of the five Alpha Gang members before finally coming face to face with Seth. However, this encounter with Seth is no ordinary battle, as players must strategically assemble a powerful team consisting solely of Water Dinosaurs, including the mighty Spinosaurus, the resilient Shunosaurus, and the fearsome Super Alpha Suchomimus. This epic showdown with Seth serves as the ultimate test of the player's skills and serves as the final obstacle before reaching the ultimate boss, Dr. Z.

During the postgame, players have the opportunity to battle him once again in the Warehouse, this time in any order they choose to face the bosses. In this rematch, he is accompanied by both Water Alpha Dinosaurs and a Grass Lambeosaurus, which now possess a powerful Fusion Move. Upon defeating him, he returns the same Stone Fragment and Zoe's beloved Toothbrush, one of the stolen treasures that Seth awkwardly avoids explaining why the Alpha Gang had an interest in it. Additionally, players discover a nearby item case that contains a mysterious Alpha Irritator Mystery Fossil.
