Villain Overview

Mange!
~ Sgt. Doug Sisk's famous catchphrase.
I'll throw you out so quick, your head will spin.
~ Sisk threatening Mange.

Sgt. Doug Sisk is the main antagonist of the 2001 comedy movie, The Animal. He is a police sergeant of the Elkerton Police Department and Marvin Mange's former partner.

He was portrayed by John C. McGinley who also portrayed Edgler Vess in Intensity, MacGruder in On Deadly Ground, Imposter Dan in Dan Vs., Metallo in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Dr. Diente in American Dragon: Jake Long, John Griffin in Surviving the Game, Captain Hendrix in The Rock, Davis "Rig" Lanlow in Nothing to Lose, and Whammer in WordGirl.

Personality[]

Despite being a police officer, Sgt. Doug Sisk is shown to be rather impatient, sadistic, ruthless, bloodthirsty, selfish, cruel, aggressive, intimidating, temperamental, remorseless, and trigger-happy. His habit of tormenting Marvin Mange constantly renders him more of a bully than a friend. After Mange gets more respect and appreciation from others including fellow officers, Sisk's jealousy begins to get the best of him.

His ego is further justified with his obsession to kill Mange either way even after the latter had saved his life in the end against better judgement without even showing the least bit of gratitude either.

Biography[]

For years, Sgt. Doug Sisk has done nothing but to torment Marvin Mange, an evidence clerk at the local Elkerton police precinct who dreams of becoming an officer like his late father due to his medical conditions. One day, Sisk catches Mange getting beaten and tormented by a bunch of kids on a tour at the police station. Rather than to help him out, Sisk carelessly proceeds to finish spraying the "R" in "LOSER" on Mange's shirt sprayed in red by the kids before taking them out himself.

Later, before and after the physical examination, at a bar, Sisk and his friends openly mock Mange for flunking the test again. A week later, after Mange unexpectedly catches a suspect having smuggled drugs from Columbia at an airport due to having been saved by a mad scientist named Dr. Wilder by replacing his damaged body parts with animal organs after driving off a cliff and being almost crushed to death by a boulder (giving him keen animal-like instincts) when trying to answer an emergency call, Sisk is asked by Chief Wilson to deliver a speech concerning the suspect's arrest, but the reporters are more interested and focused on Mange and proceed to ask him questions instead; much to Sisk's chagrin and upcoming jealousy.

The next day, Sisk has Mange brought to the chief's office and reminds the latter that he is in the former's charge during his 30 day probation while threatening to have him thrown out sooner than possible despite his recent heroism the other day. A few days later, Sisk notices Mange surprisingly coming out of a butcher shop, all fattened up momentarily. Then, a week before Mange's probation is up, Sisk warns Mange not to show him up with any of his super-cop bullshit before introducing himself as his new partner. After jealously watching Mange fend off a few punks with his "barking", Sisk and Mange are present at a farm questioning a farmer about his missing tractor. Sisk continues questioning the victim while Mange tries in vain to get in heat with the farmer's irresistible nanny goat, Nellie.

Later, Sisk and Mange are driving until they notice environmentalist and the latter's love interest, Rianna "Hummingbird" Holmes on the way. Sisk tries in vain to hit on Holmes until he sarcastically threatens out of anger and jealousy to assign Mange on meter maid duty after Holmes leaves for her upcoming date with Mange instead. Then, Sisk and Mange arrive at the mayor's annual charity event as Sisk tells Mange to keep a low profile. Although Sisk is later assigned to watch over the mayor's son, he stirs away from that duty in order to restrain Mange from causing any further embarrassment after chasing and ripping the fur off a cat during the party and apologize to the mayor on his behalf. Just as Sisk is about to throw Mange off the force for violating his probation, Mange suddenly manages to find and rescue the mayor's son from drowning in the lake; much to Sisk's further anger and jealousy before getting unintentionally splashed on by Mange in embarrassment and becoming less respected and appreciated by his fellow officers later on at the bar.

However, Sisk finally gets his chance to get even with Mange after two of a farmer's cows had been found devoured and a hunter was recently attacked by a "beast" with Mange as the suspect despite being placed on leave when the former and other officers including the chief raid the latter's home and try to arrest him. After Mange manages to escape into the woods, Sisk forms and rallies an angry armed mob in pursuit of him while Marvin's friends, Miles and Fatty seek to warn him.

Then, on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Sisk tries in vain to hunt Mange down personally by any means necessary after luring him into a trap, which results in a near-fatal fall into a chasm until he is saved by the latter against better judgment. Despite this, Sisk ungratefully holds him at gunpoint until he is suddenly attacked by Rianna (revealed to be another one of Dr. Wilder's patients) who confesses that she was responsible for the hunter attack, justifying her actions in protecting an orphaned turkey vulture she reared and released back into the wild.

With Sisk out of the way, the mob eventually arrives, threatening to kill Marvin, but Miles makes a false confession to being the beast to protect Marvin and Rianna. Due to the racial implications in prosecuting Miles, a Black American, the mob lets him go and leave, much to Miles' annoyance. One year later, Marvin and Rianna have married, starting a family and opening an animal sanctuary.

However, Sisk's fate remains unknown after he was attacked by Rianna, but it can be concluded that he was eventually kicked off the force, arrested for attempted murder on Mange, or he reformed and finally learned to accept Mange as one of his own fellow officers.
