Shadow is an antagonist in Galaxy Express 999. She is the caretaker of the Ice Graves on Pluto, she is the custodian of the bodies that have been abandoned by those who taken machine bodies and kept it in ice. She is the titular main antagonist of episode 5 "Shadow, of the Planet of Indecision" in the TV series and a minor antagonist in the film adaptation.
She was voiced by the late Toshiko Fujita in the Japanese version, Jane Perry in the English dubbed version, and Kei Miyahara in the stage play adaptation.
Appearance[]
In her human body, Shadow is a beautiful woman with red hair. In her machine body, she has blue, pale skin, wearing a purple and appears to not feature eyes or mouth except a nose.
Biography[]
Early life[]
At some point, Shadow gained a machine body in order to let her original body stayed beautiful. She later became a Machine person and watches over the bodies that were abandoned by the people who became a machine on at the Ice Graveyard, which was located on Pluto.
Meeting Tetsuro[]
When the 999 travels to Pluto, Maetel visits her friend's frozen body that has been laid in the ice. Tetsuro is approached by the graveyard's caretaker, Shadow. She takes the young boy to her frozen body, saying it's so beautiful, she refused to have a face on her machine body. Shadow tries to capture Tetsuro and uses his warmth to regain her body but failed due to Maetel stopping her.
Later at night, Shadow lures Tetsuro into traveling to her lair by taking the appearance of the young boy's mother and try to use his body. Maetel arrives and tries to rescue Tetsuro and were able to leave when the boy threatens to destroy Shadow's original body.
