Shadow Milk Cookie is one of the four overarching antagonists of Cookie Run: Kingdom. He is the leader of The Five Beasts who is trying to reclaim Pure Vanilla Cookie's Soul Jam. He wields the power of Deceit, originally known as the Virtue of Knowledge before his corruption into villainy. He is the opposite of Pure Vanilla Cookie.
He is voiced by Kang Soo-jin in Korean, Kosuke Toriumi in Japanese, Chen Yukuan in Taiwanese Mandarin, Aphichit Likitlimpreecha in Thai, and CJ Pawlikowski in English.
Appearance[]
Shadow Milk Cookie is a spindly, average height Cookie with powder blue dough and two differently-colored eyes: one cyan right eye with a black slit pupil and black eyelashes, and one cerulean left eye with a white slit pupil and white eyelashes. His mouth is sapphire blue and sly, having teeth which change between straight and sharp depending on his emotions. About his right eye is a pale blue, claw-shaped marking. He has white locks of hair near his face—two that fall against his forehead and one slicked back—azure curled sidelocks, and glossy, sharp, long hair in a dual-toned shadow and lapis style that resembles the extents of a jester's hat. Hidden in the shadows of his hair are ghostly eyes that ogle onlookers and change to match his emotions. He calls himself "extremely handsome" from this.
Shadow Milk Cookie wears an obsidian harlequin bodysuit with turquoise diamond appliques. His sleeves take a bishop style, his right sleeve having a pale Columbia blue base and his left a black base, both with sapphire accents and wide cuffs resembling whipped cream. The jester wears a ruff collar from which hang curling coattails with a ghostly blue lining and a black outside. Upon its lining are more gazing eyes. He wears his eye-like Soul Jam of Deceit as a brooch on his collar in the same place that Pure Vanilla Cookie wears his own Soul Jam. Shadow Milk Cookie also holds a jester hat split into black and cobalt halves, having a milk-splash crown about its rim and blueberry-shaped pompoms at its extending tassels. He holds a thin black staff with a blueberry-shaped eyeball and another milk design at its neck, its eye-like design being a direct reflection of Pure Vanilla Cookie's own orchid staff.
Personality[]
Shadow Milk Cookie was once a heralded champion of all Cookies, baked and empowered by the Witches themselves alongside the other Beasts. He was granted the divine Virtue of Knowledge, becoming known as the Fount of Knowledge. However, despite his nigh-omniscient perception of the world, he saw how Cookies often shied away from bitter Truths and chose to believe in sweet Deceits instead. Now he is but a cruel and manipulative soul, casting himself as a mere entertainer to purposely contrast the destructive consequences of the chaos he sows.
Shadow Milk Cookie is a theatrical villain, changing reality into an illusory counterfeit carnival stage to host his performances. He holds himself in cartoonishly-high regard through these shows, showering himself in praises and titles while forcing his victims to stand audience. Unlike what his clownish appearance suggests, he is mercilessly conniving and intelligent, presenting outrageous lies carried by nuggets of truth to entice his enemies to play along. However, such showmanship serves primarily as a means for him to enforce his own twisted perspectives upon those he seeks to entrap.
As the antagonistic counterpart to Pure Vanilla Cookie and the original owner of his Soul Jam, Shadow Milk Cookie embodies deception and destruction rather than truth and healing. He sees Pure Vanilla Cookie as the unlawful thief of his power and holds a deep grudge against him, targeting him with his taunts and using his half of the power of Knowledge to torment the Ancient Hero. Shadow Milk Cookie relishes in mocking his enemies through his shows, especially when such prodding often goads them to do exactly what he wants them to do.
Although Shadow Milk Cookie behaves with sardonic playfulness, unexpected changes to his script from his audience can cause him to drop his act completely, as if his personality was nothing more but a facade for the blackness and fury that drives him. Ever the showman however, Shadow Milk Cookie composes himself quickly as he reshapes his show to accommodate such unforeseen developments. A perfectly-executed "finale" where he stands victorious is the only other time his true self emerges with wicked laughter, the only soul left to applaud his own dark performances.
Background[]
Shadow Milk Cookie was one of the five cookies created by the Witches to help them in overseeing the creation of the Cookie World. He, alongside his fellow allies was chosen to lead the Cookies to usher in an era of knowledge and wisdom, and was known as the "Fount of Knowledge". His domain was known as the Spire of Knowledge and Truth, located in Beast-Yeast, where knowledge about many concepts were present in abundance. However, due to the nature of Truth itself being extremely harsh, many Cookies shied away from these necessary Truths. They would rather accept lies and Deceit that sounded pleasing to them, causing him to walk a lonely path & go mad from knowledge.
Eventually, he, alongside his fellow creations fell from grace, transforming themselves from promised saviors to destructive powers. Their actions resulted in them being known as the "Five Beasts". The Witches, having learnt of their chosen creations' fate decided to seal them away in the remote continent of Beast-Yeast within the Silver Tree and separated the uncorrupted parts of their Soul Jams, where they waited for years for an opportunity to arise to escape.
Shadow Milk Cookie eventually tries to break through his prison, and nearly succeeds by focusing his rage and power. However, before he can escape, White Lily Cookie, one of the Five Ancient Heroes arrives and halts his advance by reinforcing the rift further with her magic.
With them no longer having any bodies to occupy, the Beasts were left within the Silver Tree as spirits of their former selves. At some unknown point in time, the dark harbinger known as Dark Enchantress Cookie learnt of the fate of the Beasts and promised them that upon their return, she will prepare new bodies for them.
Story[]
Secrets of the Silver Kingdom[]
Shadow Milk Cookie manages to create a rift within the Silver Tree, hoping to escape. Despite his powers, he is still facing a lot of resistance from the fairies themselves. They are joined by Pure Vanilla Cookie and Gingerbrave's party, who aid in restraining the power exhibited by the Beast. However, White Lily Cookie's spell is weakened severely, and to make matters worse, the uncorrupted White Lily Cookie herself does not have her soul yet, which was dispersed thanks to her Soul Jam being split. Although White Lily Cookie is awakened thanks to Elder Faerie Cookie's efforts, it is still too late as the spell has already been destroyed. Shadow Milk Cookie reveals himself and uses his powers to transform the entire Faerie Kingdom into a horrifying circus and Theater of Lies.
Theater of Lies[]
Shadow Milk Cookie, now having been freed from his prison, immediately begins his grand spectacle of deceit by transforming the Faerie Kingdom and its inhabitants into clowns thanks to his influence. He then begins to explain the history between his comrades, the Beasts and the Heroes alongside the Faerie Kingdom's intervention, though his story is modified pointing himself and the other Beasts as innocent Cookies. He then states that he is planning to face Elder Faerie in combat, which he does so. However, having used most of his Guardian's power, and using it against Shadow Milk Cookie again weakens him further, resulting in his demise later. Shadow Milk Cookie is pleased by this turn of events and immediately awakens his comrades trapped within the Tree, the other Beasts. He tries to manipulate Pure Vanilla Cookie to destroy the Silver Tree by masquerading as the Light of Truth, but the Cookie remains doubtful and trusts in White Lily Cookie instead.
Shadow Milk Cookie is confused as to how his powers aren't returning yet and why Pure Vanilla Cookie isn't obeying him. He is shocked and enraged to see White Lily Cookie, believing that Elder Faerie Cookie is still alive and asks his whereabouts angrily, only for him to learn that the Guardian indeed died and she has taken his place. Shadow Milk Cookie is frustrated and states that he will destroy her, but he pauses for a moment and states that the Guardian made a mistake appointing her as the new one. He then decides to play with her and the rest of the party by asking them who among the Five Heroes is half a cookie and who is the greatest liar. Although GingerBrave answers the question wrongly (according to Shadow Milk Cookie), Pure Vanilla Cookie realizes Shadow Milk Cookie's intentions and declares that all of the Ancients are half cookies and that he himself is the greatest liar. Shadow Milk Cookie is impressed and asks a final question to White Lily Cookie, this time by transforming himself into a jack-in-the-box form and capturing all of her friends and allies. He then poses the final question to her - will she save her friends who are doomed, but in the process lose to the Beast, or attack the Beast and lose her friends, hoping that she gives up. However, to Shadow Milk Cookie's surprise, White Lily Cookie instead uses the Guardian's power to restore the broken Silver Tree and seal him back. Enraged, Shadow Milk Cookie warns them that the Beasts have finally risen and they cannot hold them back, even stating that they have no idea what awaits them.
Wind, Piercer of Darkness[]
Having realized that getting the Soul Jams of the Five Heroes is extremely difficult, Dark Enchantress Cookie alongside her followers, the Cookies of Darkness plot to rebuild and bake new empty Cookie Shells for the Beast Cookies so that she can gain their Soul Jams instead. As the experiment goes on at a later stage, they require a large amount of Life Energy and dough from many cookies to create a new vessel. The vessels made are ensured they do not get contaminated with other souls, in hopes that a Beast will possess them. The experimentation was successful, as revealed that one of the Beasts had received a new body and returned back to their domains (this is likely either Mystic Flour Cookie, Silent Salt Cookie or Eternal Sugar Cookie). Shadow Milk Cookie's spirit, having somehow escaped the Silver Tree discovers Wind Archer Cookie and explains to him what their plans were; they plan to use the Life Energy and doughs to create new bodies for the Beasts, and in the process, discover and likely create - the "ultimate Cookie" as he calls it. Despite the challenges faced by the Elemental Guardian, nonetheless, the plan is suspended due to Wind Archer Cookie seemingly using his powers to stop the flow of Life Energy and escaping. Though Shadow Milk Cookie is disappointed that he couldn't have some fun while his body was still being created, he resumes the flow of Life Energy back to the oven and states that it is time for some destruction, as it is revealed that the next Beast who will inhabit this body is none other than Burning Spice Cookie himself.
Spire of Shadows[]
Pure Vanilla Cookie, alongside GingerBrave and his party ventures into the Spire of Truth and Knowledge in search of knowledge regarding the Beast-binding ritual, hoping to use the knowledge to seal the Beasts once more. Upon entering the Spire, they face riddles and tests, after which the Spire transforms and reveals itself to be the Spire of Deceit - the transformed and corrupted domain of his adversary Shadow Milk Cookie, who has summoned one of his followers, Candy Apple Cookie to act as Apple Faerie Cookie and lead Pure Vanilla Cookie's party to the Spire. Through the other-realm and the Dark Side of the Moon, Shadow Milk Cookie reveals that not only had he been observing Pure Vanilla Cookie for a long time, but that he was indeed the Cookie who was once known as the Fount of Knowledge. After revealing that Candy Apple Cookie had been summoned to bring the party here, the Spire of Knowledge changes itself and reveals itself to be the Spire of Shadows and Deceit. Shadow Milk Cookie impersonates Pure Vanilla Cookie temporarily and reveals himself to the party. When the party demands Pure Vanilla Cookie's whereabouts, he asks them the same question and whether the latter was alive or not, before leaving a card of Pure Vanilla Cookie falling from the Spire and disappearing.
Pure Vanilla Cookie, revealed to be still within the Spire observes portraits of Shadow Milk Cookie through various eras, including the time when he was known as the Fount of all Knowledge. Shadow Milk Cookie summons his other-realm and reveals to him that Dark Enchantress Cookie had restored his physical form and states that he controlled everything that took place during Pure Vanilla Cookie's lifetime. He also states that Pure Vanilla Cookie is eventually destined to become another Shadow Milk Cookie, just like him. He shows Pure Vanilla Cookie a vision where his reputation is tainted due to White Lily Cookie's revelation as a part of Dark Enchantress Cookie, and as a result, is barred from the Creme Republic Union. The vision continues with the Creme Republic being attacked by the forces of the Beasts, and Pure Vanilla Cookie refuses to heal anyone, which causes Shadow Milk Cookie to discover him. He even makes Pure Vanilla Cookie believe he has become the Beast of Deceit by seemingly changing his appearance to that of his own, shocking and horrifying the Ancient. Fortune Teller Cookie arrives and leads the party to the top of the Spire, where he reveals himself to be Pure Vanilla Cookie himself, having become the Truthless Recluse.
Beacon of Truth[]
Having now regained his physical body and successfully bringing Pure Vanilla Cookie onto his side, Shadow Milk Cookie orders his henchman and subordinate, Black Sapphire Cookie to start spreading malicious rumors about various Cookies, who starts a smearing campaign against various Cookies all over Earthbread. Many, including Parfait Cookie, Princess Cookie and Latte Cookie are affected. Shadow Milk Cookie initially tries to seize the Soul Jam by force. After realizing that the Soul Jam was unstable, he decided to change his plans and test his other half by forcing him to take the test of the River of Rebirth, where anyone who embraces Deceit will remain afloat and others will drown. Shadow Milk Cookie threatens to eliminate GingerBrave's party if Pure Vanilla Cookie doesn't step into the river. Annoyed, Pure Vanilla Cookie steps into the river and seemingly drowns, but comes back and stays afloat. Shadow Milk Cookie is very amused, but he still doubts Pure Vanilla Cookie, and begins another trial - this time by summoning a chess board and having Pure Vanilla Cookie's chess pieces become Gingerbrave's party. Shadow Milk Cookie asks Pure Vanilla Cookie about various topics including his interactions during the Dark Flour War and Dark Enchantress Cookie as well as the difference between a truth and a lie. Pure Vanilla Cookie instead does not follow the rules and places GingerBrave directly ahead of the King piece, thereby making checkmate. The Master of Deceit is extremely pleased, and as a final test, he summons cards to play a tarot card game, with GingerBrave's party being the subject of cards itself. Shadow Milk Cookie summons his attendants to possess his cards, and they trick the other cards into trading places, thereby changing his prophecy into his own benefit.
Shadow Milk Cookie, surprisingly grants another chance to Pure Vanilla Cookie and leaves, handing over the other Cookies to Black Sapphire Cookie. However, Candy Apple Cookie, jealous of Shadow Milk Cookie giving attention to Pure Vanilla Cookie snatches and transforms the captured Cookies back, causing them to flee. Black Sapphire Cookie manages to find them, but he is beaten before he can capture them. Shadow Milk Cookie arrives, and is pleased as he wishes to see what Pure Vanilla Cookie will do. Pure Vanilla Cookie discovers them and brings them as cards to Shadow Milk Cookie alongside Black Sapphire Cookie. He summons a board game with dice, where the Cookies are forced to travel through a fake Crispia and face various foes such as Caramel Arrow Cookie, Dark Cacao Cookie, Dark Enchantress Cookie and Golden Cheese Cookie. After they brave through the final trial, Shadow Milk Cookie grabs them and asks Pure Vanilla Cookie whether he will hand over the Soul Jam or save his friends. Seemingly falling to the trick, Pure Vanilla Cookie hands over the Soul Jam, but the Beast pushes them down anyway. Pure Vanilla Cookie, though enraged, embraces Deceit and joins his powers with Shadow Milk Cookie to spread the other-realm all over Earthbread. Believing now deceit can be spread all over Earthbread, Shadow Milk Cookie is extremely pleased. However, to his surprise, he realizes that the rumors are starting to die out.
It is later revealed that Pure Vanilla Cookie was never corrupted in the first place, and had pretended to be corrupted. Having learnt how the other-realm works, Pure Vanilla Cookie uses its powers alongside that of the Spire's to rescue his friends and eliminate all the rumors created by Shadow Milk Cookie. Enraged at this betrayal and deceit, Shadow Milk Cookie attacks the party and lunges towards Pure Vanilla Cookie to reclaim his Soul Jam's half, but is interrupted as the latter awakens to become Compassionate Pure Vanilla Cookie. He states that he knows Shadow Milk Cookie is lonely. Even more angry at this, Shadow Milk Cookie attacks the party, but is swiftly defeated. He escapes alongside Black Sapphire Cookie and Candy Apple Cookie to the other-realm, not before vowing revenge.
Battlefield of Passion[]
Around the time when Pure Vanilla Cookie became the Truthless Recluse, Shadow Milk Cookie infiltrates Eternal Sugar Cookie's Garden of Paradise in search of Berries of the Garden's Heart, hoping to secure some for his "struggling student" (likely referring to Pure Vanilla Cookie). He arrives at the Garden in guise of a Lady in Azure and encounters Eternal Sugar Cookie, who had been alerted of his arrival. The Beast of Sloth is annoyed at the Beast of Deceit's presence, but allows him to pick the berries nonetheless. Though Eternal Sugar Cookie allows him, she points out that she will not tolerate any of his tricks. The "Lady" asks whether was it about turning one of her Sugar Angels into a Jester and making them jump over fiery coals or tricking a Cookie into believing the Garden of Paradise was near a cliff, which caused them to almost die, to which the latter confirms, and even points out that "he" acts always only for his own benefit. The Lady then warns Eternal Sugar Cookie, stating that her obsessive love for Hollyberry Cookie can be stifling and she can change her mind, though the latter disagrees. Laughing, the Lady leaves, transforming into a snake and slithering away, as Eternal Sugar Cookie bemoans that he was a nuisance and her precious time had been wasted.

- Shadow Milk Cookie corresponds to the Spire of Deceit & Truth/Blue Tower region of Beast-Yeast.
- Shadow Milk Cookie shares many visual similarities with the Blueberry Yogurt Academy, especially through his blue eye motif, which has led to theories that he might be the academy's founder & first principal.
- Like Pure Vanilla Cookie, Shadow Milk Cookie has heterochromia iridis, in which his two eyes do not share a color.
- Shadow Milk Cookie is the first Beast Cookie to have two assigned controllable minion Cookies -in his case, Candy Apple Cookie and Black Sapphire Cookie- as opposed to one, since both Cloud Haetae Cookie and Nutmeg Tiger Cookie were the only controllable followers of Mystic Flour Cookie and Burning Spice Cookie respectively, while Peach Blossom Cookie and Smoked Cheese Cookie -the former being released in the mid-updates, while the latter becoming controllable in the mid-updates- were not affiliated with them at all (Peach Blossom Cookie being a neutral character and Smoked Cheese Cookie being aligned with Golden Cheese Cookie).
