The Shadow People, also known as the Blunderzians or Aliens from the Planet Blunderz are major antagonists in the Monica's Gang franchise.
They are a race of undead aliens who existed for billions of years and were the dominant species on Earth before getting banished to the Planet Tomb. From there, they would use their shapeshifting abilities, technology and billions of years of knowledge and evolution to reclaim the universe for their master, the Serpent, especially the Earth.
They are major antagonists in both Monica's Gang and Monica's Adventures, most notably acting as the main antagonists of the Heirs of the Earth Arc and the overall secondary antagonists of the End of the World Super Saga.
History[]
The Past[]
The Shadow People, according to Fake Nick Nope, are the oldest species in the universe, dead for thousands of years and only continue to exist because of The Serpent, who keeps them active thanks to the Liquid Shadow. They are native to planet Earth, appearing billions of years before the emergence of humanity and even the dinosaurs, but they were expelled by something or someone and imprisoned on Planet Tomb, located in the Lower Universe. For thousands of years, they have infiltrated many other societies across the common Universe, thanks to their ability to transmute, but their goal has always been to reconquer Earth.
During the 16th century, the Shadow People came into contact with the Inca civilization, appearing to them as their gods. When a caravan leaving Peru settled in southeastern Brazil, the aliens instructed them to build a temple inside a hollow mountain, which would actually serve as a spaceship for them to escape the planet. After the work was done, all of the Incas were sacrificed to create a river of Liquid Shadow beneath the Well Village. According to Shub-Sogoth, it was the first time they managed to create Liquid Shadow outside Planet Tomb.
In the past, the secret organization known as the House of Asclepius intended to bring the Shadow People to Earth through the Inverse Tower, believing they would bring order and discipline to a chaotic world. However, the Tower was never activated, so none of the aliens were able to invade Earth through it.
In the days of the classic gang, as seen in the "Aliens of Planet Tomba" issue, a trio of aliens came to Earth to erase the traces of their experiences on the planet. However, they were defeated and put into hibernation by Mônica, Denise, Chuck, Franklin, Rosie, Nick Nope and Zeca. Due to a memory erasing machine, they all lost their memories of meeting aliens in their childhood.
"End of the World Super Saga"[]
Decades later, the subconscious of each one of them made them meet again in Vila Abobrinha, where they would explore what was causing the infertility of the soil of the Nhô Lau lands. There, Rosie discovered an Inca artifact that used to control the Tombians' ship, so, as she had partially lost her memory, she accidentally brought the three aliens out of hibernation, culminating in the abduction of Nick Nope and his replacement with an agent, and of Rosie herself, who was contaminated with Liquid Shadow.
Upon arriving at Planet Tomb, the Gang was welcomed by Rosie, transmuted by the Liquid Shadow, and by Shub-Sogoth, the administrator of the Quadrivium. He explained that the inhabitants of Tomb are located in the nine circles of the abyss and the last one is where the Serpent awaits. Despite them trying to defeat the Gang, Franklin and the Astronaut discovered their weakness: sunlight. Turning the ship's energy field into a huge fan, they scattered the black clouds and let the sun's rays touch the planet's surface, disintegrating the Shadow People's legion and exploding Planet Tomb.
With the destruction of Planet Tomb, it is very likely that the Shadow People have gone extinct, or are at risk. However, as the Astronaut said, they are scattered across the Universe infiltrated into different societies, so it is possible that some individuals have survived.
Appearance[]
All members of this species have a monstrous appearance and black coloration, referring to being solid shadows. Some, like the Engineers and Agnes, are capable of modifying their appearance several times, making it even a little difficult to know their true appearance. Certain individuals appear to take the form of insects, such as the Fake Nick Nope and one of the Engineers, which seems to be related to the fact that Earth's insects are under the Serpent's control.
Powers and Abilities[]
According to Franklin, the Shadow People are nothing more than corpses infected by the Liquid Shadow, reanimated by it, and under the Serpent's complete control. Acting like a virus, the liquid can transform a human into a member of the Shadow People. Usually, the transformation is slow and can cause various side effects, such as fainting, fever, delirium and hallucinations.
In Rosie's case, she started to hear the Serpent's voices, saying that she were trying to erase her personality, leaving nothing but the "shadow". After she was taken to Planet Tomb, closer to the Serpent, her body was transmuted into a hideous version of the character, granting her unbeatable powers. As demonstrated later, human bodies infected by Liquid Shadow can be healed after being exposed to sunlight. However, the Shadow People are completely disintegrated, indicating that they are composed completely of Liquid Shadow.
In Cumulus' case, his transformation was rapid, due to his entire body being in a liquid state.
Weaknesses[]
The Shadow People have a single known weakness: sunlight. The Liquid Shadow within them burns, consequently burning and killing them. Because of this, Planet Tomb was covered with dark clouds that prevented the sun's rays from reaching the interior of the planet. The Horse of Decay's mission was to pollute the Earth's atmosphere to a point where sunlight could not reach the surface, making the planet bearable for the Shadow People.

- Rosie (briefly, cured)
- Smudge (briefly, cured)
- Cumulus†
Trivia[]
- Agnes is the only member of the Shadow People who does not burn when in direct contact with the Sun, the reason being unknown.
- On the internet, there is the theory of the People of Light, which would be the angels, like Angelo, and those responsible for expelling the Shadow People from Earth billions of years ago. Being enemies, this would explain the need for the Shadow People to hide their planets and their ship, which is shaped like the Rune of IOR, so that the People of Light cannot identify them
