The Shadow Stalker, also known as the Dark Thorn in its alternative form, is a minor antagonist in the video game Kingdom Hearts II. It is a Pureblood Heartless that appeared in the Beast's Castle.
History[]
In the Beast's castle, Xaldin attempted turn the Beast into a Heartless in order to collect his Nobodies (Kingdom Hearts) to further Organization XIII's plans. When the Beast was freed from Xaldin's influence by Sora, Donald and Goofy, Xaldin was forced to change his plan. So he summoned the Shadow Stalker to attack Belle, hoping that the Beast's despair and rage over her demise would enable his transformation.
The Shadow Stalker chased down Belle to the ballroom, where she called for the Beast's help. Sora, the Beast, and the others arrived just in time so Belle could escape from the Heartless. The Shadow Stalker then turned it's attention to Sora and his friend, and proceeds to fight them. Similar to the Possessor that resided below, the Shadow Stalker possessed the room itself, using the windows, pillars, chandelier, and floor to attack Sora and the Beast. After the heroes dealt enough damage to it, it began to writhe in pain until covering itself in a cocoon of pure darkness. A few seconds later, the cocoon bursts to reveal that the Shadow Stalker had transformed into the monstrous Dark Thorn. In this new, powerful bestial form, it attacks Sora and his friends ferociously with furious attacks and its ability to become invisible. However, Sora was able to use the very elements that the Heartless had recently possessed to beat it into submission. After being beaten, the Dark Thorn explodes in a burst of light, forcing Xaldin to retreat and reform his plan.

Trivia[]
- Its ability to possess objects as the Shadow Stalker may reference how the castle is filled with living objects, and its appearance as the Dark Thorn references the Beast and his rose.
- It is likely that, given its similar appearance, the Shadow Stalker/Dark Thorn was formed from the darkness inside Beast's heart.
