Shadow the Hedgehog, also known the Ultimate Life Form, is a major antagonist in Sonic the Comic Online!, the "unofficially official" continuation of the Sonic the Comic series. He is a clone of Sonic the Hedgehog created as a weapon by the Drakon Empire to destroy Mobius during the ancient war between the Echidnas and the Drakons. According to Shadow himself, he was created using Chaos Energy and Sonic's genes, obtained when Doctor Zachary captured Sonic in order to complete the Drakon's work.

Past[]
Shadow was a weapon created by the Drakon Empire. He was based off Sonic and had access to Chaos Powers, but was left incomplete and abandoned in the Emerald Hill Zone, alongside a set of Chaos Emeralds. Both would be found millenia later by the kindly Dr. Ovi Kintobor. The doctor failed to release Shadow from his capsule, but nevertheless gifted him with a lot of knowledge, leading to Shadow developing an affection towards him.
Sonic the Comic Online![]

Years after Kintobor's transformation into the evil Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Shadow was completed with a sample of Sonic's DNA and released by the Syndicate. He was unleashed in the Special Zone to bring together the Chaos Emeralds, which were sent there by Knuckles. Despite resistance from Sonic, he was successful, and the Emeralds caused a reaction which destroyed the Special Zone, though Sonic, Shadow and the Chaotix managed to escape its destruction. He captured Sonic and revealed to him that he knew of his role in Robotnik's creation, which caused him to resent his doppelganger. Nevertheless, Shadow remained intent on fulfilling Robotnik's one and only desire to destroy the world, as he still saw him as the same person as Kintobor.
Sonic and Shadow later fought each otheron the Death Carrier, until the latter grew weakened as his Chaos Energy drained, and left to recharge. When Sonic fell off the aircraft while pursuing the villain, he transformed into Super Sonic and continued the fight. When Sonic turned back to normal and escaped, Shadow was left alone with Robotnik on the Death Carrier as it was about to crash. He used the last of his power to teleport his former friend out of danger, but died in the process.
Legacy[]
Though the original Shadow remained dead, a digital copy of him, dubbed "Shadow II", was later introduced as a heroic character.
Powers and abilities[]
Shadow is capable of moving just as fast as Sonic, is exceptionally skilled in hand-to-hand combat, and is able to manipulate Chaos energy to teleport with his Chaos Control ability, draw Chaos power sources toward him, sustain limited flight and even control that which utilises Chaos, as demonstrated upon the Omni Viewer. He is very powerful, and managed to defeat Sonic without too much effort. He has one major weakness though: he must recharge his powers with chaos energy.
Trivia[]
- It's implied in Issue 273 of Online that multiple Shadows, referred to as "abominations", were created by the Drakon Empire, though their current status is unknown.
