The Shambler from the Stars is the eponymous main antagonist of Robert Bloch's short story The Shambler from the Stars. It is a star vampire that is accidentally summoned by a mystic hired by the unnamed protagonist.
Biography[]
The unnamed narrator of the story discovers an eldritch tome known as De Vermis Mysteriis by the sorcerer Ludvig Prinn. Due to it being written in Latin, he hires a New England mystic to translate it for him. The mystic comes across a section about familiar spirits and foolishly reads out an incantation for summoning the invisible "star-sent servants" that did Prinn's bidding. This causes the window to fly open and a sinister laugh to herald the arrival of the eponymous Shambler, an invisible creature known as a star vampire. The creature picks up the mystic and drains his blood, becoming visible as it does so. The narrator sees its true form and goes insane. The Shambler retreats to the cosmic gulf from whence it came, but the narrator is terrified that it will one day return for him.
