~ Titan Shang Tsung at the commencement of the Battle of Armageddon.
Shang Tsung, also known as Titan Shang Tsung, is one of the main antagonists of the Mortal Kombat: Titan Trilogy and one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Kronika) of the New Era Timeline within the Mortal Kombat franchise.
He is an alternate incarnation of the devious sorcerer Shang Tsung from the timeline created after Raiden sent a message to the past that set the events of the franchise on a vastly different past. Most notably, after his arch-nemesis Liu Kang became the God of Fire, he attempted to obtain the Crown of Kronika so that he could become a Titan and conquer the universe.
Shang Tsung later returned in Mortal Kombat 1, after discovering Liu Kang was also a Titan and Keeper of Time and he decided to conquer his timeline, recruiting his New Era counterpart to achieve his dark ambitions. It was also revealed that because of their respective final clash against Kronika, the timeline's fabric was ripped apart, leading to different timelines with different outcomes; in one where Shang Tsung himself was the victorious winner, in the other it was Liu Kang.
He was voiced by Andrew Kishino in Mortal Kombat 9, who also voiced Sektor in the same game, Juggernaut in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Janja in The Lion Guard, Mantis in Young Justice and Shredder in Batman vs. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa in Mortal Kombat 11, who previously played his 1995 movie counterpart, and Alan Lee in Mortal Kombat 1, who also voices his New Era counterpart and Mystery Saja from KPop Demon Hunters.
Shang Tsung is a shifty traitorous manipulative sorcerer who only cares about himself and only himself to the point where he’s even willing to manipulate himself to boost his own goals.
Powers and Abilities[]
Shang Tsung has the power to steal the souls of those he defeats and must do so to continue living. He can shapeshift into the people whose souls he steals, giving him their combat abilities and memories. However, he can shapeshift into someone without their soul. Shang is highly skilled in black magic and sorcery, and his attacks are mainly fire-based, much like his archenemy Liu Kang. Like with most other kombatants, he also has superhuman strength, speed, and endurance with him becoming more powerful after each soul consumed. When transformed into someone else, he also gains their abilities. Even without transforming, however, he is powerful enough to stand up to the likes of Liu Kang even in his elderly form.
Shang Tsung can fire flaming skull projectiles, which can also be summoned from the ground, that are believed to be the souls he has collected. He can create a giant flaming cobra, that can entrap and opponent and is able to absorb souls. Shang can also create portals between realms and teleport in bursts of fire. Furthermore, he can also engulf his hands with fire to increase the power of his attacks as shown in Mortal Kombat 11.
Once Shang Tsung took Kronika's crown his power increased exponentially. With the crown, he could easily defeat the likes of Raiden, Shao Kahn, Sindel and even Kronika without much issue. The only one who could match or even surpass him was Fire God Liu Kang.
Powers[]
Base Powers[]
Divine Empowerment/Cursed Physiology: Shang Tsung was cursed by mysterious entities identified only as his gods. The curse forcibly decreases his lifespan, unless he takes the souls of others to replenish himself. Shang Tsung's primary objective is to find an infinite source of souls on which to thrive indefinitely. Without souls, his body will rapidly age, wither, and eventually die. Till the time he possessed Kronika's crown, he didn't need to feed on souls to survive, and he was transformed into a god, with immense power.

You participate in the most important Mortal Kombat in history. This tournament, the tenth after nine Outworld victories, will determine Earthrealm's fate. If you defeat all of your opponents, you will face one final challenge... me.

You should be more vigilant, Fujin. Now, bear witness, as the power to decide destiny becomes mine!

My service to you is over...Now yours to me begins.

“
Kronika's power overwhelmed me, such that I would have been driven mad...had I not spent centuries mastering the dark powers beyond the grasp of ordinary mortals. Now I am the master of time and fate. But Kronika's fall proves that even Titans can be defeated. Though my new power lets me roam infinite timelines and feast upon the souls of billions, I am vulnerable. To survive, I must return to the shadows, avoid confrontation, and work my will through the hands of others...more specifically, through the hands of my fellow Titans. These monstrous beings are plied easily by appealing to their greed, vanity, and fear. Through them, every soul in eternity bends to my influence. In my New Era, morality will be exposed as the illusion it is. The cunning will prosper while the "good" suffer. This is the word of Shang Tsung. Have a nice day.
