Shannon Cotterie James is a supporting antagonist of Stephen King's 1922.
She is the daughter of Sallie and Harlan Cotterie, neighboring farmers of the James family. After falling in love with Henry James, the two run away together and begin a life of crime, becoming known as the "Sweetheart Bandits".
Shannon does not possess a villainous personality, as all of her actions were based upon what would be best for her family with Henry. Shannon appears to care for Henry as much as he does her, coming to his father after becoming concerned about Henry's abnormal behavior. In order to make ends meet, she and Henry committed themselves to a life of crime. In the end, it would be because of her devotion to Henry that she would end up perishing.
Biography[]
Shannon was the daughter of a farmer that neighbored the James family. She would end up falling in love with their son, Henry James, spending much of her time hanging around him.
After Henry began becoming distant, she went to Wilfred for an answer. The reason for this was because of the murder of Anette James, but Wilfred would lie to Shannon and tell her that everything was fine. Around this time, Shannon became pregnant with Henry's baby, and the two planned to marry each other. Shannon's parents wanted Shannon to move away to have her baby, asking Wilfred to come up with seventy five dollars in order to help with the wedding costs.
Shannon ended up running away with Henry, the two turning to a life of crime in order to get by. She and Henry would end up being recognized in a diner, Shannon being shot during their escape. Their truck wouldn't start, so Henry was forced to look for refuge on foot, carrying her limp body in his arms. Shannon would end up passing away not to long after this.
The ghostly apparition of her, Henry, and Anette would appear to Wilfred in his apartment in the city, but before they made contact with him, the scene faded to black.
Trivia[]
Like Henry, Shannon's appearance at the end of the story is debatable, as the actions that followed contradict what was implied to have occurred at the hands of her, Annette, and Henry.
