Shara Carlino is a minor antagonist in the Criminal Minds episode "The Angel Maker". She is an obsessed fan of serial killer Cortland Bryce Ryan who takes advantage of a copycat killer to attempt to murder a woman in imitation of Ryan's M.O.
She is portrayed by Blake Lindsay.
Biography[]
Shara works as a secretary in Lower Canaan, Ohio. She was one of many women who fell in love with serial killer Cortland Bryce Ryan, the "Angel Maker", after his arrest for the murder of six women. His self-proclaimed "number one fan", she regularly visited Ryan on death row at Hawkesville Prison and wrote letters to him, even quitting her job so she could get one closer to Ryan. Sometime before his execution, Ryan accidentally sent Carlino a letter addressed to another of his fans, Chloe Kelcher, causing her to realize she wasn't the only woman Ryan wrote to. Despite this she maintained her love for Ryan even after his execution.
"The Angel Maker"[]
On the first anniversary of Ryan's execution, Kelcher begins murdering women in an imitation of Ryan's M.O., digging up Ryan's body and using his semen to make it look like Ryan has returned from the grave. The FBI's Behavioural Analysis Unit profile the killer as a woman who is obsessed with Ryan and corresponded with him. Carlino is interviewed by agents David Rossi and Emily Prentiss but is able to provide an alibi for the first murder.
Later that night, Carlino, increasingly deluded by the events and feeling jealous of Kelcher, decides to take advantage of Kelcher's killing spree by murdering a woman in the same way as Ryan and allowing it to be blamed on Kelcher, hoping this will allow her to reunite with Ryan after death. She lures a woman in and attacks her, but the would-be victim is able to escape and Carlino is subdued by local residents. Carlino is arrested for attempted murder and is last seen being taken away in a police cruiser while proclaiming her love for Ryan.
