~ Sheriff Nichols |
Nichols Banner, more commonly known as Sheriff Nichols is a major antagonist in the Family Guy franchise.
He is the corrupt and cruel local sheriff of Dungaree county in Georgia who frequently abuses his power, commonly arresting innocent people for his sadistic pleasure. He is also one of two arch-nemeses (alongside Bobby Briggs) of Joe Swanson.
He is voiced by Ralph Garman, who also voiced Jeffery Fecalman in the same series.
History[]
Sheriff Nichols first appears when Peter Griffin, Joe Swanson, Glenn Quagmire and Cleveland Brown were going on a road trip and had them pulled over. Peter makes every effort to talk to him as annoyingly and rudely as possible, but the Sheriff is more offended by Cleveland's attempt to calmingly explain themselves, revealing himself as both racist and corrupt as he smashes the gang's headlight and windshield, throws away Joe's police badge (since Joe is a Quahog policeman), and stashes weed in the trunk of their car to make it look like they were drug dealers. As a result of this, they are given an unfair trial (with people from The Simpsons being the jury) and end up having to serve two weeks in a Georgia penitentiary.
When the two weeks are about to be up, the gang soon learns that The Warden extended their stay to thirty days and plots to make the group spend life in prison, regardless of what the court would say. The group break from the prison to get back to Quahog, and Sheriff Nichols is assigned by the warden to lead an armed manhunt to bring them back dead or alive, though the group escape by stowing away in a train heading for Quahog.
Though it may seem that the group are finally safe, they are shocked to find Nichols and his men waiting for them at Quahog and preparing to take them back. However, Joe calls in the Quahog Police Department officers that are in the train, stating that Nichols and his men don't have any jurisdiction to arrest him and his friends. Because of this, Nichols and his men are forced to surrender. Joe takes revenge by smashing the headlight and windshield of Nichols' car and even shooting him in the knee (possibly giving him paraplegia) . Joe then gives a speech to Nichols that he may have a badge to serve for law and order, but it doesn't give him the right to treat anyone (especially the innocent) however he wants, and a true law enforcement professional has an obligation to be more ethically upstanding than the average man, not less. As such, Joe angrily orders Nichols and his men to leave Quahog and never return. Defeated and humiliated, an unhappy Nichols and his men left Quahog in their cars, never to be seen or heard from again.
