~ Kyou to himself |
Kyou Shigoku (至極 京 Shigoku Kyō) is the main antagonist in the 2020 Japanese psychological manga series Juujika no Rokunin. He is the leader of the four other bullies who tormented Shun Uruma brutally and psychologically, taking away everything he loved in order to drive the latter into suicide, and serves as his archenemy.
Appearance[]
Kyou's appearance is rather androgynous and complex with his facial expressions consisting of his own eyes being devoid of everything that is emotion. He has black hair that is length to his neck and has minor bangs over his head that almost reach his eyes. He is mostly seen in his school uniform originating from Teisei High School.
As a child, Kyou originally had long hair that reached his shoulders. He was mistaken for a girl due to his previous appearance back in elementary.
As an adult, Kyou is seen being a bit slim and manages to regain his long hair when he was younger. Additionally, he is seen wearing a large white baggy shirt, black pants, and black shoes. He still retains the same scar on his right eye ever since his last confrontation with Shun.
Personality[]
Kyou appears to have severe psychopathic tendencies, going as far murdering both his parents in middle school as "they became a nuisance from my pursuit of love". He appears to lack empathy, effectively using four of his friends to bully, torture and sexually abuse a classmate, while in parallel planning to drive all of them into suicide, also labeling them as "test subjects". He even expresses boredom in one's death when one of his followers committed suicide, which he found unamusing. Kyou shows no remorse killing people and children, and considers having "achieved happiness". He also wasn't above committing rape or was fine with it, while he doesn't do it himself, he does enable and encouraged Ushiro to violate a girl who had a crush on him to do so.
From the age of twelve, he was known to be homicidal to the point he was okay with murdering anyone as he wishes to his own desires, which was shown when he attempted to kill Uruma using a Judo technique by crossing his arms around his neck by force. This provides more description of his own sadistic and twisted personality, as he even remains calm and logical about committing murder as it was part of his disturbing philosophy between life and death as one, believing that killing another human is the greatest thing to achieve whether it is directly or indirectly without a coherent reason but for his own amusement. He also seems fine with harming children younger than him without hesitation, which was shown by beating and later killing Kakeru, Uruma's younger brother. Ironically, his one and only act of mercy was stopping Madoka from tormenting a young kid, though any reason for this is unclear (though likely to avoid garnering unwanted attention to them in open public).
He is described by many as gifted, skilled, and charismatic, as he is seemingly intelligent and incredibly athletic as a high schooler where he manages to pass his university mock exams, has experienced Judo since he was a kid, and was part of a basketball team. As for his charisma, he manages to psychologically manipulate and convince his fellow compatriots to commit the same actions as him with ease and through a set of words to describe it. Additionally, his akin intelligence led him to have the capability of manipulating those who may seem just or not entirely bad as Kyou himself is in terms of cruelty and evilness, encouraging them to embrace the inner impulses that bring the absolute worse in them to where it led to thousands following him and being blindly loyal to him.
Despite his leadership among the four bullies, Kyou has no concern nor does he have any actual care towards them. This is first shown when he doesn't hesitate to push Madoka down a hill just to cause the death of Uruma's parents and has a rather manipulative and toxic relationship with the latter, additionally, when all the four tormentors die under Uruma's hands, he didn't mourn them as he was only interested in how this will all end and as an adult, admitted they were nothing but part of an experiment he created. Therefore this provides more detail about Kyou's lack of affection and companionship for others, including his own allies and supporters in his cult. It is later revealed that the original four were also test subject's of Kyou with him planning on having all four of them ultimately commit suicide in an attempt at an indirect killing spree. However, this had changed when Uruma proceeded to kill all four of them.
Despite being unable to form genuine connections, he stated that he ultimately desired to experience love. This twisted desire led to him killing his own parents, as he familial love wasn't enough, despite mentioning that his family cared for and loved him. He believes that the blind worship from the Revolutionary Club is true love, further emphasizing his inability to understand genuine connections. He also does not tolerate failure as he decides to make an example out of Masashi Nakamura for letting the opium garden be burnt down.
Despite everything he's capable of, he is nothing more than a coward deep down as he manages to place Shun and Jun in a twisted game just to spite the latter with such dishonor and is even shown to noticeably express fear upon witnessing how powerful Uruma's grandfather is by killing one of his cultists. This absolutely shows that deep down, Kyou is capable of fearing those unexpected to his agenda yet his own arrogance blinds him at these surprising moments.
Five years after his twisted death game, Kyou had amassed a large following of cult members who served him blindly or unwillingly (via psychological conversion/brainwashing). It is shown that he has grown bored and dissatisfied with life as he didn’t care when one of his fellow cultists hung himself in front of him, dismissing it as boring. It is shown that the one and only person he has an interest in is Uruma as the latter had exceeded his expectations. After seeing his photo 5 years later, his expression livened as he was excited to continue where they had left off.
Biography[]
During his 3rd year in elementary school, it was revealed that Kyou was once an average kid, who was best friends with Uruma Shun. The two enjoyed activities such as attending a summer festival, as well as a family barbecue. Around that time, Kyou had no affiliation with the other four. At one point, the two came across a group of kids participating in a choking game. While Shun was not interested, Kyou was on the other hand intrigued and wanted to try it, coercing Uruma by threatening to stop being friends. Shun hesitantly agreed and proceeded to choke Kyou. The event caused him to suffer a near death experience. Kyou became euphoric after the experience, claiming to see death, and referred to it as beautiful. This event lead to Kyou's eventual fall to depravity, and Shun's descent into hell. After the event, Kyou had begun killing animals ranging from bugs, to birds, to rabbits, roping Shun into the twisted acts against his will. Eventually, Shun broke off their friendship and walked away. Kyou grew distant by their 4th year, and returned in his 5th year with the four bullies, who he either corrupted via encouraging and enabling their first crimes as a young age. Prior to them bullying Shun, their initial target was Kaname Shirakawa, the younger sister of Jun Shirakawa, who they eventually left alone in favor of Uruma.
he is the leader of the bullies who "experimented" on Shun Uruma, being the reason why the majority of the events in the manga happened. Kyou somehow possesses the ability to brainwash others into doing his bidding including the bullies themselves. When he was twelve years old, he tried to strangle Shun to death until he was stopped. Following the incident, he shoved Madoka Hiro into a car with the Uruma family (except Shun and his grandfather) inside, causing the car to turn and fall down a cliff. He is later shown to be much stronger and tougher than his followers despite his androgynous appearance.
Four years after the incident in which he indirectly murdered the parents of Shun Uruma, he continued gathering more followers to experiment on people for his own entertainment, standing out as the most vicious of the five bullies who sent them to deal with Uruma. Interestingly, he doesn't have any strong attachments to them, viewing them as nothing but expendables. Despite potentially becoming the next target on Shun's hit list, he doesn't care as he is eager to see how the events following the incident unfolds. At some point, he meets Jun Shirakawa, who he recruited to be a part of his Revolution Club, which revealed that he had more followers (including Jun) in order to torment and later kill both Jun and his sister just to torment Uruma even further. He later had Jun and Shun play a deadly game of "Rock, Paper, Scissors", in which where he had Shun's younger brother, Kakeru, held hostage as the person suffering a penalty from the game has to have the limbs of their younger siblings cut off. The game was soon put to an end as Shun's grandfather broke free from his chains to rescue Shun and Kakeru. Kyou simply from the sidelines, intrigued by Shun's progression as Shun calling Kyou out for his cowardice only for the psychopath to ignore him.

Trivia[]
- Out of the five bullies, Kyou and Senkouji are the only ones who have not committed rape (until subverted in later chapters, with the notion of it being implied), a rather heinous crime compared to Madoka and Ushiro, especially Kuga in this case. Despite this, he's still the most evil out of the five (even more than Senkouji himself) given he's the one responsible for causing Uruma's life to be a living hell and has the most personal murders of his loved ones (including Mr. and Mrs. Uruma [indirectly], Kaname Shirakawa [indirectly], Shun's grandfather [indirectly], and Kakeru Uruma [directly]).
- It's even worth noting that he is entirely responsible for all the suffering he caused through Madoka and the others, even possibly through the Revolution Club he started since it is heavily implied that he is corrupting a wide number of them by encouraging them to do horrible and unspeakable things, which would likely embark something he planned due to his "begin the revolution" plans in the future.
- Kyou is likely based on real-life cult leaders, Charles Manson and Jim Jones.
- He shares similarities with Manson due to manipulating and corrupting people into becoming his followers, even ordering them to commit murders for them. The main difference between them is that Kyou has his followers commit whatever atrocious, vile deed they want while Manson orchestrates many murders to provoke a race war.
- He also bears similarities with Jones, both ran camps around islands located from afar where they trained their followers and had a fascination with death.
- It is revealed in Chapter 161 that NOTHING made Kyou into the sociopath he is today. In fact, his reason for being so is simply out of his own decision, implying that he was purely evil to the core from the very beginning.
