~ Shikishima to Eren before stabbing himself in the chest to turn into the Armored Titan.
Wouldn't mind a hot Titan chick for once.
~ Shikishima.

Shikishima is the secondary antagonist of the live-action duology of Attack on Titan, based on the manga/anime of the same name, serving as a major protagonist in Part 1, and the secondary antagonist of Part 2. He was the captain of the Scout Regiment, who was revealed to be Eren's brother and planned on using the bomb in Mozen to destroy the Inner Walls so he could create his view of a better world, he is also the holder of the Armored Titan.

He was portrayed by Hiroki Hasegawa, while Jason Liebrecht (who also voiced Zeke Yeager) voiced him in the English Dub.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

Shikishima was born as the older brother of Eren, who, during his childhood, lost his parents after they were captured and presumably killed by Kubal and the Military Police Brigade, while they stayed in hidden in their father's lab while they were captured.

At one point in his life, Shikishima became the holder of the Armored Titan, and was able to control it at will. He also became the captain of the Scout Regiment and used his position as cover for his plan to try to usurp the goverment of the walls, being tired of their oppressive rule towards the people inside the walls.

During these events, he found Mikasa and saved her life from unknown circustances, with him training her to become good at killing titans and use the Omni-directional mobility gear. The two would also start having a relationship with each other.

Attack on Titan, The Movie: Part 1[]

Shikishima is first seen saving the Scout Regiment from Titans with the help of his squad, with them helping the Scout Regiment get the explosives they were looking for. After the explosives were secured, Shikishima talks to Eren after he learned his name, where he tells him how he met Mikasa.

Shikishika would then follow Eren, and when he tried to talk with Mikasa, Shikishima interupts the conversation, and had Mikasa eat an apple that he had already eaten a part of to spite Eren, leading to him leaving the place in frustration.

After there was a group of Titans attacked the place they were in, Shikishima would have one of his soldiers steal the truck with the explosives, but one of the members of the Scout Regiment took over the truck and used it to kill the Titans, due to her wanting to avenge her lover's death, but she was only able to kill a few Titans and herself with the explosion.

Shikishima would stay on top of a building while the rest of the regiment fought against the Titans, and while he convinced Eren to continue to fight the Titans even after everything seemed lost, he was uncarring about the fact that he lost his leg and fell, saying that he wasn't always lucky.

However, Eren would get eaten by a titan while trying to save Armin, but he was able to survive by becoming a Titan and killing all the Titans in the soroundings, before getting unconsious right after he was done killing the Titans.

Attack on Titan, The Movie: Part 2[]

Eren was captured by Kubal and his soldiers, with the latter planning to have him executed as he was afraid of his powers and that his position could get in danger, and when he was about to do so, Shikishima appeared in the form of the Armored Titan and severely injured Kubal, as well as killing several members of the Military Police Brigade, before taking Eren away.

Shikishima would then reveal to Eren how the Titans were created and what happened to their parents, revealing that he was also his brother. Later, Shikishima and Eren would reunite with the Scout Regiment, who had brought the bomb from Monzen, with Shikishima revealing that he was not planning to use it to seal the hole in the Outer Wall, but to blow up the Inner Walls and use the invasion of the Titans in them to usurp the goverment and become their new leader.

Not agreeing with this, Eren tries to stop him, but Shikishima easily beats him up and then when Mikasa tries to stop the fight, he forcefully kisses her to anger Eren, who gets further injured by their fight while Shikishima stays victorious. Armin then threatened to use the bomb to make sure Eren and Mikasa would be able to escape, but after finding out he was bluffing, he ordered his soldiers to shoot at the Scout Regiment.

However, one of the members named Sannagi, threw a tower at Shikishima's troops, killing them, but he is also shot to death at the orders of Shikishima. He would then try to stop the regiment from sealing the Outer Wall, but Eren is able to win the fight against him. While Eren was fighting Kubal, Shikishima appeared and turned into the Armored Titan.

When Kubal was about to kill Eren, Shikishima saves him and throws the bomb onto the mouth of Kubal's Colossal Titan Form, killing himself and Kubal as a result, while also sealing the hole in the Outer Wall, allowing the Scout Regiment to finally find out what was truly outside of the walls through Shikishima's sacrifice.

Personality[]

Shikishima is a cold individual who wants to find people strong enough to surprise him. He also is a hypocrite, calling Eren a “horrible person for killing Titans” since they were once human, but he has no problem with killing Titans himself.

Shikishima also has a relationship with Mikasa, and constantly provokes Eren about it, most notably when he forcefully kisses her in front of Eren during their fight. He also mentions that it was getting bored of killing ugly Titans and hoped that he could find and kill a "hot Titan chick".

Shikishima is also manipulative and is capable of tricking his enemies and allies, and is also able to show a presence of fear when it is needed.

He has a great amount of pride in both his abilities and believes himself to be a better leader to the people of the walls. Shikishina also doesn't care about killing even what were once his allies, as seen by his apathy when he orders Sannagi's death.

Despite all of this, he is not completly awful, as he wants for the people in the Walls to be free of the tyranny of the current government.

When Kubal was about to kill Eren, he saves the latter's life, although he says that Eren was "his prey" and throws the bomb from Mozen in Kubal's mouth, killing Kubal and himself as a result, which allowed the Scout Regiment to finally be free of the walls' tyranny and discover the outside world.

Victims[]

  • Kubal
  • At least three members of the Military Police Brigade
  • At least five members of the Scout Regiment
  • Sannagi (Caused)
  • His (and Eren’s) own father (Caused)

Trivia[]

  • Shikishima is obviously based on Levi Ackerman from the manga and anime, while also having similar traits to Reiner Braun and Zeke Yeager as well.
    • Interestingly, Zeke Yeager and Shikishima share the same English Voice Actor.
    • Shikishima could be the main inspiration for Zeke, as both of them are related to Eren and hold Titan Powers. Although their Titans are different, with Shikishima holding the Armored Titan and with Zeke holding the Beast Titan.
