History[]
Background[]
Most of Shinnok's backstory is unknown. All that is known is that he was an Elder God who, at some point, betrayed his fellow Elder Gods and was imprisoned in the Netherrealm, which he took over.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match[]
Shinnok is not seen throughout most of the film, but the Brotherhood of Shadow works to free him so that he can destroy Earthrealm. They identified a human named Johnny Cage, a Hollywood actor, who happens to have the blood of the gods, meaning that they can use him as a sacrifice to revive Shinnok. The one who is actually able to capture him is Sareena, who was working as a fellow actor named Jennifer Grey, who, along with other members of the Brotherhood had set up his film career, eventually using her disappearance to lure Johnny Cage into a trap.
Johnny Cage survives thanks to the help of Ashrah and Golden, but they are still able to use his blood to summon Shinnok to Earth. Shinnok wastes no time getting ready to destroy Earthrealm, but Johnny Cage confronts him; Shinnok initially shrugs him off, not seeing him as a threat and is initially curb-stomping him. But with several of Johnny Cage's fans cheering him on, Cage is able to unlock his mystical powers, part of his divine ancestry, and manages to overpower Shinnok. He knocks Shinnok into the portal, where Golden uses a spell to seal Shinnok back into the portal, trapping him back in the Netherrealm.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge[]
He never makes a physical appearance in the film, only being mentioned by Quan Chi and a few others. However, he plays a significant role. as he is the reason Quan Chi does everything in the movie to free him and the fact the Quan Chi has control over the Netherrealm. Quan Chi also says that he was sealed away by the Elder Gods for his betrayal, and Quan Chi is running the Netherrealm in his absence.
Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms[]
Shinnok first appears greeting Scorpion in the Netherrealm having claimed his soul. Shinnok tells Scorpion that the keys he needs to open a temple was fused with his magic as he died with it on Shang Tsung's island.
He threatens to flay Scorpion alive and bring him back to do it again if he does not cooperate, Scorpion however escapes. Shinnok also hired the Lin Kuei to make sure that Scorpion gets the Kamidogu, lying to them about what his true intention was as well as who he is.
Shinnok doesn’t make many more appearances in the film until near the end when the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei gives him the last Kamidogu. The Grandmaster is also horrified to discover this and tries to stop him though in vain as Shinnok’s demons murder him along with Sektor and Cyrax. Shinnok then summons the One Being merges with him and merges all the realms together to destroy them all. Though he is luckily stopped by Liu Kang and killed.
Appearance[]
Shinnok's appearance is identical to his Mortal Kombat X attire so if you want to know more check out.

Trivia[]
- Weirdly Shinnok's name appears in the credits in Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge and it says he's voiced by Robin Atkin Downes even though you never hear him speak nor does he appear.
- This could imply he was originally intended to play a speaking role in the film, but it was cut for some reason.
