Shintaro Yamazaki is a major antagonist from the webtoon Lookism. He is the twin brother of Shingen Yamazaki and the uncle of Gun Park. He is a mentally unstable, wrathful and ruthless man who is obsessed with following the rules of the Yamazaki Clan.
Appearance[]
Shintaro is a tall man with a slim but muscular build. Shinto has fair skin with sharp facial features and jet-black hair. He naturally has a very similar appearance to his twin brother Shingen but has slicked back hair similar to his nephew Gun Park. His body is mostly covered in tattoos. Shintaro would wear a white kimono and is seen usually carrying a Japanese folding fan. In a flashback it was seen that he would wear the same white Kimono. Unlike Shingen, Shintaro would wear glasses that he would usually remove during a fight.
After usurping his brother and becoming the leader of the Yamazaki clan Shinto would wear black clothing instead. During this time, he would become depressed and would have dark circles under his eyes and tired features.
Personality[]
Shintaro is extremely dedicated to the Yamazaki clan is completely obsessed with following the rules of the clan to the point he would kill his own son, father, brother and nephews to simply maintain the status quo of the clan. He views going against the rules as unacceptable and even hurts and threatens a Yamazaki clan member for suggesting Haruto would be a better leader than his son.
Shintaro is a very volatile and emotional filled person. He has a mental breakdown upon finding out he is Shingen's older brother and therefore the rightful leader of the Yamazaki clan all along. He has bouts of rage throughout his appearances and all his instances of rage are attributed to the rules not being followed with. A key example is when he discovers that his son Haruto had told Gun Park to choose his own path in life. He immediately orders Gun to kill Haruto but when Haruto overhears this, Shintaro strikes him and orders Haruto to commit suicide. Haruto then does and Shintaro later visits Naruto's grave to affirm that it was the right choice due to Haruto not following the rules.
Shintaro is an extremely ruthless and brutal person as seen how kills many people in very brutal ways such as slicing a man in half with a sword, crushing one of his nephew's head with his hand and also twisting another nephew's head 180 degrees.
Despite killing many members of this family for the sake of the rules, he expresses remorse for making his son commit suicide when he realizes it was for no reason because he would have been rightful heir to Shintaro. It is implied he felt guilty for killing his brother too. During his reign as the Yamazaki Head, Shintaro would be very depressed similar to how his brother was when he lost to the Fist Gang. He was also suicidal but would not commit suicide due to it going against the Yamazaki rules.
Biography[]
As a child it was shown that Shintaro had Ultra Instinct but it was unknown at what point he acquired it because he was not born with it unlike his brother and nephew. Shintaro was shown to be studying which he disliked doing but did for the sake of his role of Vice President of the Yamazaki clan in the future. At this time, Shintaro and Shingen are shown to be close, but Shintaro conceals his Ultra Instinct from Shingen to make him look like a more suitable leader.
As adults, Shingen became depressed after the Yamazaki clan lost the battle to the Gapryoung First Gang. Shintaro devised a plan in order to payback the defeat. This plan involved Shingen having 8 children in the hopes that one of the children would inherit the Ultra Instinct. After this child was born, they would be trained vigorously to then be able to then defeat the Fist Gang and be the President of the clan once Shingen had died. This plan's first part had been succeeded once Gun Park was born. Shintaro himself already has a son, Haruto, who Shinatro was adamant would not become the next leader of the clan given that he was Shinatro's son and not the son of Shingen.
Gun is raised without any affection and is trained constantly. One day, Haruto sees Gun catch a butterfly but then reprimands his cousin and tells him to not needlessly hurt weak beings. Haruto tells Gun to follow his own path in life. These words influence Gun who tells Shinatro that he does not want to be the head of the Yamazaki clan. Shinatro in a fit of anger hits Gen and tells him his purpose is to avenge the defeat of the clan. Shintaro asks Gun where he got the idea to not succeed the clan, and Gun tells Shinatro it was Haruto. Shinatro is briefly shocked before he tells Gun to kill Haruto handing him a wakizashi to kill Haruto with. However, Haruto hears this conversation and confronts Shinatro. Shintaro hits Haruto before ordering him to kill himself. Haruto tearfully accepts the request and commits suicide but not before telling Shintaro that he will never escape his obsession with rules.
Later, Shintaro is with the Yamazaki wet nurse on her deathbed who delivered not only Gun but Shinatro and Shingen as well. The wet nurse decided to make a confession to Shinatro. She says that when Shinatro and Shingen were born Shinatro saved Shingen from being burnt by a candle and this resulted in Shinatro's burn scar on his back. The wet nurse was ordered to kill herself by Shintaro's father, but she stated falsely that Shinatro was the younger son and thus receiving a lighter punishment and saving her own life. Shinatro is deeply shocked by this because it means that he is the rightful leader of the clan. Shintaro has a complete mental breakdown over this revelation and kills the wet nurse before becoming drunk and finally feeling remorse over the death of his son.
Shintaro then confronts his father in the hopes that the wet nurse had just gone senile and made the story up. But Shinatro's father affirms the story stating that he found out later that Shintaro was the elder son but did not reveal it due to Shinatro doing well in his position as Vice President. To him it was fate that the truth was hidden as it resulted in the progression of the family. He tells Shintaro to just accept what has happened and also says another Shintaro does not have Ultra Instinct to become the leader anyway. Shintaro does not accept it and kills his father offscreen.
Shintaro has rallied half the clan to usurp Shingen including Gun's mother who he promises to marry and have a child who will be the future heir once Gun and Shingen are dead. Shintaro confronts Shingen with their father's decapiated head enraging Shingen. Shinatro then screams how he killed their father for not following the rules that he imposed on them which alludes to the fact that the idea of following the rules was imposed on Shintaro from a very early age resulting in his obsession. 2 of Shingen's sons confront Shintaro but are swiftly killed brutally. Shintaro then finally reveals he has Ultra Instinct.
Shingen and Shinatro viciously fight, but Shingen has the edge resulting in the members behind Shintaro getting involved. Gun comes and stops some of the members and before the members can harm Gun, Shingen protects him, but this results in an opening and Shinatro cuts Shingen's arm off. Shingen awakens a new state of Ultra Instinct and begins beating Shinator and the Yamazaki members ruthlessly. Shingen is distracted by Gun again and he is stabbed in the neck by Shinatro. Gun is saved by Shingen one last time before Shinatro can kill him ad through the help of his mother escapes to South Korea.
Years later, Gun is working under Charles Choi and goes back to Japan and confronts the Yamazaki clan. A depressed and aged Shinatro confronts Gun and the 2 fight. Shinatro nearly kills Gun, but Gun's mother intervenes and dies instead. Gun awakens the same state as his father after seeing his mother die infant of him and begins fighting more evenly with Shintaro. Shinatro during the fight reflects on his life and how depressed he is. He then realizes that this is the perfect opportunity for him to die and for Gun to become the new leader. He lets Gun fatally wound him before using Gun's fist to commit suicide. In his last moments he apologizes to Gun for his actions.
