Shiva is a major antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok and a minor character in its manga spin-off Record of Ragnarok Forbidden Legend - Apocalypse of The Gods.

He is a major antagonist in the First Round, the secondary antagonist of the Second Round, a minor antagonist in the Third Round, a supporting antagonist in the Fourth Round, the main antagonist of the Fifth Round, a minor antagonist in the Sixth Round and the Seventh Round and a supporting antagonist in the Tenth Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.

Shiva is the leader of Hindu Pantheon who has defeated all other Gods of Hindu Pantheon, including his best friend Rudra, marking himself as the most powerful Hindu God in existence, a Chief God and the husband of Parvati, Kali and Durga, as well father of Ganesha. He is also the Gods' representative of the Gods Fighters during the Fifth Round, where he faces Raiden Tameemon as the Humans' representative of the Einherjar.

He is voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki, who has also voiced Zenon Zogratis in Black Clover, Prosciutto in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Ghiaccio in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle, Jatice Lowfan in Akashic Records of Bastard Magic Instructor, Aleister Chamber in Black Butler and Metatron in Shin Megami Tensei, in the Japanese dubbed version of the anime adaptation. In English dub, he is voiced in the first season by Benjamin Diskin, who has also voiced Joseph Joestar in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In the second season, Diskin was replaced by Sean Rohani, who has also voiced Bishamonten in Record of Ragnarok.

Appearance[]

Shiva is extremely muscular man with two sets of arms, pale-purple skin, five orange eyes (two of which are usually closed) including the one on his forehead with dark-red sclera, messy black hair, dark-blue tattoos on his arms, wearing only a pair of yellow loose pants with blue waistband, as well as yellow headband. When he was young, he lacked tattoos and had only three eyes, lacking the lower set of them.

By the time he resorted to Tandava Karma, Shiva had lost three of his four arms. In this state, his skin turns dark-red with arms and tattoos becoming black, pants blue with black wristband (seen when he is grabbed by Rudra after the fight) and his headband disappears. Also, his body constantly produces azure-blue flames.

Personality[]

Shiva is proud, carefree, reckless and short-tempered fighter, not afraid to challenge even Zeus when the latter told him to switch positions between their Rounds, although he ultimately backed down. He often does not take his opponents seriously, particularly when they are Human beings, always continuing to smile after withstanding several mighty head-on blows from Raiden Tameemon and believing himself to be fully capable of incinerating Adam by accident. In fact, he initially showed no affection nor interest in Humans, preferring to wipe them out completely in apocalyptic event when proposed by Zeus. Only after the battle with Raiden does he change his mind and begin to consider them fantastic, despite still wanting to win the Ragnarok Tournament to exterminate them.

Despite that, Shiva is on good terms with other Gods. He affectionately calls Zeus "gramps" or "old man" and is greatly respected by other Hindu Gods, who cheer up on him during his fight with Raiden. Furthermore, Shiva is very fond of his best friend Rudra, to the point of giving up his dream of becoming a dancer and helping him become the King of the Hindu Gods. He was also ready to fake his defeat in order for Rudra to archive his dream, although Hindu God of Storm gave up anyway. If needed, Shiva also supports other Hindu Gods, such as Indra during the Apocalypse Tournament. He can also recognize the strength of other Gods, such as Ra-Horakhty, when he sees it.

Biography[]

Shiva was born as one of the many Hindu Gods living near the Svarga, but without a real leader. As a child he met Rudra and the two soon became best friends, with Rudra wanting to specialize in fighting and Shiva in dancing. After facing and defeating the Ashura Brothers who invaded their village, Rudra confesses to Shiva that his dream is to reach the summit of Svarga and become the new King of the Hindu Pantheon, and Shiva decides to follow him to help him achieve his dream.

The two face all 1115 Hindu Gods, managing to defeat them (with Shiva managing to defeat Varuna and, with the help of Rudra, Vishnu and Brahma) and reach the summit of Svarga, but here Rudra challenges Shiva to a duel specifying that only one of them can rise above the others. Reluctantly Shiva accepts the challenge and gets the better of Rudra, but the latter continues to get up and Shiva, to stop him, decides to surrender, being anticipated by Rudra. At that point Shiva becomes the new King of the Hindu Pantheon, but Rudra leaves the Svarga and for millennia the two never see each other again. In time, Shiva marries Parvati, Kali and Durga, and fathers Ganesha as his son from Parvati.

Shiva participates in the Gods' Council of the 2000 B.C. in which it was decided to spare Humanity, but not without having in any case inflicted a severe punishment for its behavior: Aphrodite and Loki propose to destroy Thebes, and so Shiva asks to be the one to do it, but is anticipated by Ares who claims the right since Thebes is in his territory.

Millennia later, during the Gods' Council of the XXI Century, Shiva and Aphrodite propose to destroy the Humanity that is destroying the planet and the vote passes unanimously: Brunhilde's intervention makes the Gods change their minds so they decide to organize Ragnarok to give Humans a chance of survival, and Shiva is chosen by Zeus as one of the thirteen representatives of the Gods Fighters.

Subsequently, Shiva assists together with the other Hindu Gods from the stands at the matches of the Apocalypse Tournament, a competition between 16 Gods, including Indra, organized by Zeus in which the winner would take the last place in the Gods Fighters and could have drafted a new law in the Constitution of Valhalla.

Some time later, following the start of the Ragnarok Tournament, Shiva witnesses the First Round where Thor faces and defeats Lü Bu. At the end of the First Round, who exalted him to the point of admitting he hasn't felt like this for a long time, Shiva must take the field in the Second Round as a representative of the Gods to face Adam as a representative of Humans, but Zeus joins him and forces him to give him his seat and make him fight in his place. Following the defeat of Poseidon in the Third Round, Shiva proposes to fight in the Fourth Round in order not to exalt the Humans too much, but Zeus tells him that it is the task of the Greek Gods to avenge Poseidon, and for this reason Heracles is chosen to fight in that match.

Shiva manages to take the field as the representative of the Gods in the Fifth Round, to face Raiden Tameemon representing the Humans. The fight is very physical and fought, and Shiva loses three of his arms, but after seeing Rudra and the other Hindu Gods rooting for him, he unleashes his secret weapon, the Tandava Karma, and defeats and kills Raiden by decapitating him. At the end of the match he rejoins Rudra and, joined by Zeus, warns him that he has changed his mind and that he now considers the Humans to be fantastic.

Shiva watches the other four Ragnarok fights in the infirmary, where he tends to his three arms amputated in the fight, being visited occasionally by both his three wives and the other Hindu Gods.

At the end of the Ninth Round Shiva, with his arms completely recreated, participates in a meeting between all the remaining Gods Fighters in which it is decided to quickly obtain the last two victories that the Gods need to win the Ragnarok Tournament. Anubis offers to fight in the Tenth Round, but is overtaken by Susano'o no Mikoto who decides to fight in the Tenth Round. After that, Shiva returns to the stands to follow the rest of the Ragnarok Tournament fighting.

Powers and Abilities[]

Divine Physiology: Shiva is described as the greatest fighter and strongest God of Destruction in all of Valhalla, having managed to defeat other Hindu Gods including Rudra, the second strongest God of the Hindu Pantheon. Shiva is extremely skilled in the art of unarmed combat. He was able to defeat 1116 Hindu Gods with nothing but his punches including Rudra the partner who helped him defeat 1115 of 1116 Hindu Gods. Thanks to his four arms, Shiva possesses much greater dexterity in combat than most people, being able to defend against incoming blows with one pair of arms while attacking his opponents with the other pair. With his four arms he can use moves and techniques that cannot be performed by most Gods, and even having lost three arms Shiva was still able to fight on equal footing with Raiden.

Biological Immortality: As a God, Shiva has an unlimited life span and will not die of old age. Also for this reason, Shiva possesses physical capabilities far superior to those of any ordinary Human being and his body cannot be harmed by deadly weapons. However, he can be injured and killed by physical attacks with superhuman strength or by Divine Weapons.

Supernatural Strength: During his battle with Rudra, their impacts sent shockwaves throughout Svarga and the sound of their punches echoed throughout Earth. As told by the other Gods, Shiva has great strength: he grabbed Raiden's punch and knee and sent him flying across the arena with his four arms, hitting him in the abdomen and making him fall back after the blow. After recovering from Raiden's headbutt, Shiva landed a sequence of punches with all of his arms that made Raiden retreat backwards with the pressure of his punches which was compared by sumo wrestlers to cannon fire. After one of his arms was crushed and he decided to fight more seriously, Shiva's punches were able to sweep Raiden away, even with his guard up. After using the Hidden Treasure of Svarga, Shiva's speed is increased to the point where it leaves afterimages behind and allows him to evade Raiden's attacks.

Supernatural Durability: According to Shiva, the strongest part of his body is his head which, according to him, is rock solid. Shiva took two full blows from Raiden on the head and recovered quickly spitting blood, also holding his knee with both hands after taking some damage. He even managed to damage Raiden with his head when the Human headbutted him in the forehead. Shiva showed immense pain tolerance, being able to remain conscious and continue fighting even after losing three arms. During his fight with Rudra, the sweat that flowed from their duel became heavy rain that fell on the Earth, but although their fight could last for hours Shiva never showed any signs of dehydration.

Flame Manipulation: Shiva can produce powerful heat and flames. The heat is capable of burning nearby objects and turning them to ashes, however, he is not fully immune as the heat damages his body as well. Shiva is able to dance until his body begins to generate enough heat to burn the flesh of his opponents. Although the heat is powerful enough to damage Shiva's body, he manages to continue fighting without showing any signs of pain. Even after using Tandava Karma, his secret weapon which accelerates the heartbeat so as to make his whole body incandescent to the point of burning nearby objects, Shiva was still able to survive the intense heat of azure flames.

Skilled Dancer: Shiva is a very skilled dancer, capable of dancing to the rhythm of the cosmos. By implementing dance into his fighting style, he can fight more effectively and make his movements more unpredictable. He possesses several techniques involving dance, and using said techniques he was able to defeat a large number of powerful Gods.
