The Shocker was the one of the three overarching antagonists (alongside Kingpin and Rhino) of the Alien Costume Story in the 1994 cartoon Spider-Man: The Animated Series, first an enforcer of Kingpin's criminal organization and later a member of the Sinister Six (Insidious in the cartoon) in the following seasons.
He was voiced by Jim Cummings, who also voiced Man-Spider in the same series, MODOK in Iron-Man TAS, NegaDuck in Darkwing Duck, Fuzzy Lumpkins in The Powerpuff Girls, Peg Leg Pete in Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoons, Nessus in Disney's Hercules, Razoul in Disney's Aladdin, Ed the Hyena in Disney's The Lion King, Long John Silver in The Pagemaster, Steele in Balto,Don Karnage in TaleSpin,Kaa in The Jungle Book 2,, the Bears in Sing, Lidong in Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, and Hondo Ohnaka in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
The early history of Shocker is unknown even his name and face. He became an enforcer for the Kingpin, and was given a powerful sound suit that was created by Alistair Smythe.
Hunting Down Eddie Brock[]
When Kingpin learned Eddie Brock had information and pictures on the Rhino and Promethium X, Smythe insisted they would a send Shocker as he has the perfect suit for the job.
Shocker threatens to kill Brock.
In a coat, Shocker threatens to kill Eddie Brock, but was attacked by Spiderman, who then defeated Spiderman causing bricks to collapse on top of him. Shocker laughs and throws a brick as he walks away. However Spiderman emerges from the rubble, determined to get back at Shocker. Shocker returns to Smythe, despite unable to kill Brock, he does admit he "smashed" Spiderman, but Spidey discovers him, and toys with Shocker, and steals Promethium X.
The Fight with the Black Suit Spiderman[]
Smythe and Shocker meet with the Kingpin, revealing to him Spiderman has stolen the experimental rock, Kingpin declares a hostage takeover, as Shocker kidnaps John Jameson, J. Jonah Jameson's son. Shocker blackmails Jonah into forcing Spiderman to meet him with the Promethium X at a church far from the city.
Spidey and Jonah meet the duo with the Promethium, as John is given back to Jonah, Spidey tells them to leave, as Spidey and Shocker have a pretty big fight, where Eddie Brock determined to get revenge for Spiderman with weapon, however he is seen by Shocker and threatens to finish where they left off, instead Shocker is forced to flee, as Spidey's black suit is too strong.
Shocker, unable to beat Spiderman, rushes to the Bell Tower to a better approach at him.
Desperate, Shocker rushes to a bell tower, as Spidey enraged claims to chase him down till the ends of Earth. Shocker prepares for his arrival but Spiderman catches him from behind, Eddie Brock interferes one last time, only to be webbed by Spiderman to save for "dessert", but delivers the coup de gras to Shocker, destroying his hand held Shock Gauntlets with a pillar.
Spiderman nearly sends Shocker to his death.
As a last resort Shocker tries to hit him with said damaged gauntlets but Spiderman catches his arm. Spidey sends Shocker, off to a ledge, Shocker begging for his life claiming he can't kill him as he's the good guy, his moment of pleas, triggers a flashback within Spiderman of having great power and responsibility.
Spiderman begins to realize what he has done is wrong, as Shocker sighs in relief as Shocker knew he wouldn't kill him. His suit on the other hand has a different opinion. As a tentacle pushes Shocker off the ledge, screaming in horror, as Spidey watches and quickly launches his webs to save Shocker in time.
This finally allows Spiderman to take off the suit once and for all, however the suit attaches itself to Eddie who was accidentally left behind during the scuffle with Shocker.
Double Team-up![]
Shocker blasts a distracted Spiderman.
Shocker later escapes, and meets up with Rhino, having both been foiled by Spiderman, aiming to get revenge on the Wall Crawler. Spiderman (now in red and blue), web zips throughout the city, but notices Rhino and manages to trap him to an AC vent but then his blasted away by Shocker. Now Shocker and Rhino are able to overwhelm Spiderman, and trapping him in a billboard standee of J.Jonah Jameson, however he is suddenly saved by another monstruous figure with the black suit, easily tossing Rhino and pinning Shocker, using his strength to crush his shock gauntlets. Shocker and Rhino were last seen webbed up together.
Joining the Insidious Six[]
Shocker shuts up Scorpion
Months later, after the rematch with Spiderman, Shocker along with the Chameleon, Rhino, Mysterio, Scorpion and Doctor Octopus are incarnated to a jail complex (possibly Rykers Island). They are freed by Smythe, whom arranges a helicopter to take them to a warehouse where they all hear a voice, acknowledging they are an insidious six of weapons, as Scorpion acknowledges that he is own weapon, as Shocker shuts him up, and Rhino assures him the Kingpin is the one talking. They are then distracted by Spider-Man who dies from head on impact by Rhino, only to realize the Spider-Man that was killed was a droid. When Kingpin arrives to greet them personally he proposes a plan to corner Spider-Man like a noose, which Shocker along with the others agree to.
Spider-Man tracks the Six to a nearby town, where Shocker notices on a monitor screen that Spider-Man appears to be running to find them, on foot he notes which is he thinks is an oddity. Regardless Spider-Man was temporarily defeated by only from the Six arguing with one another is Spider-Man able to escape.
Kingpin orders them to divide and conquer, where Scorpion and Ock get the idea to go to Peter Parker's house, as he is a newspaper photographer of Spider-Man, which results in Aunt May traveling to a hospital, but in actuality is a setup for Spider-Man. Spider-Man arrives and is cornered once again by Shocker and the Six, and is defeated. Ock unmasks Spidey to be Peter Parker, however Ock deduces Parker was merely a stand in for the real Spider-Man, which Shocker calls his bluff and tries to Parker, but is stopped by Ock, so that he can reveal the real Spider-Man.
Shocker, Rhino and Scorpion attack Silvermaine's base.
Kingpin orders Shocker, Rhino and Scorpion to attack Silvermaine's headquarters defeating several of the guards and kidnapping Silvermaine himself. On a rooftop, Peter tricks the six into finding Spider-Man, which results in Shocker once again attempting to kill Peter. Spiderman then returns (Peter just managed to hide to turn into Spider-Man) and forces the Six to flush him out in a building below the rooftop. Rhino accidentally charges Shocker, which causes an exposure in suit. Doctor Octopus discovers Spider-Man is outside, and Shocker is sent to destroy him. This time Spidey manages to get drop on, Shocker as he is thrown into a nearby water tower, and is forced to strip his clothes as the suit is electric based, he manages to escape, but laments to himself of suit being destroyed.
Much later Shocker along with the Six regroup but then break off a search for Spiderman, and disband the Six.
Hired by Kingpin again.[]
Shocker is not seen for much of the series until Season 4 where he once again, in a new suit works as Kingpin's enforcer. When ESU retrieved Michael Morbius from a cave and plan to study his ability of neo genetics, Kingpin along with Shocker and Herbert London (who took over Smythe as a Kingpin's second in command) attempt to retrieve him, but Spidey and Black Cat stop them.
Re-Joining the Insidious Six[]
In the final season, Shocker is brought back into the Insidious Six, now with Vulture (minus Mysterio and Chameleon) and mainly assist in attacks to retrieve keys to retrieve a doomsday weapon to rule the world. He fought against S.H.I.E.L.D, The Wolf Pack and one of the Six Warriors: Destroyer and defeating him and taking one of the keys. It is revealed part of the keys were later stolen by Electro and his brother Chameleon to retrieve Red Skull, Electro defeats Kingpin and escapes.
The Insidious Six all watch from a rooftop of the Kingpin being escorted to the hospital, Otto annoyed by very little conquest urges the group to continue with their own lives, Shocker possibly agreed with Ock and he too left to possibly continue work as an enforcer else where, now that Kingpin was no longer hiring him.
Personality[]
Shocker's ego is more of a typical hired thug, even acting merciful when Spider-Man was causing the latter to be back in corner during their fight at a Church Bell Tower. However, unlike some of Spider-Man's other rogues gallery, he is a bit smarter than most others (except for Chameleon and Doctor Octopus), often having semblance of taction. He would notice Spider-Man approach to one of Kingpin's hideouts as a strange idea rather than zip lining. Also seeing through Spider-Man's ruse when he was unmasked by Doctor Octopus and coming up with a phony story that he was a stand in for "the real Spider-Man".
Appearance[]
Shocker's appearance resembles the classic, yellow and brown leather suit from the comics, however several minor differences such as the black straps on his suit are black than brown, parts of his gloves and shoulders are shaded red,
