SHE PUNCHED ME IN MY EYE!
~ Shockwave after Elita has punched him in the eye for threatening Orion Pax.

Shockwave is a supporting character in the 2024 animated film Transformers One. He was a hot-tempered member of Cybertron's High Guard, acting as one of Starscream's lieutenants. He and Soundwave briefly assisted Orion Pax and Elita-1 in rescuing D-16, B-127 and the rest of the High Guard, after they had been captured by Sentinel Prime's forces.

Following Sentinel Prime's death, Shockwave and the rest of the High Guard swore allegiance to D-16, now going by the name Megatron, and assisted in destroying Iacon and anyone that stood in their way. Eventually, he and the rest were banished from Iacon, in which they eventually rechristened themselves as the Decepticons.

He was voiced by Jason Konopisos-Alvarez, who also voiced one of the security guards in the film.

Appearance[]

Shockwave is depicted as large, purple Cybertronian, possessing magenta chest and silver legs. His notable traits are his one yellow eye and his arm cannon that replaces his left hand.

His alt mode is a Cybertronian artillery cannon or railgun. It featured a sleek design that is both solid and heavy-duty with a blocky design that Starscream's fighter jet. Shockwave's chest acts as a gunner with laser cannons on each side.

Upon being outcasted from Iacon, he gains an insignia of the Decepticons on his shoulders and his eye turns to red.

Personality[]

Shockwave generally is shown to be an incredibly intelligent and stoic individual who, like the rest of the High Guard, seek to overthrow Sentinel for his betrayal and deception. Although despite this, he is shown to be irritable, aggressive and notably prone to arrogance, anger and impatience, as he found B-127's talkative nature to be highly aggravating and wished he was given a stronger gag to keep him silent. Still, Shockwave is focus on the High Guard's goal to take down Sentinel but is more impatient and willing to take a more direct approach to get things done, attempting to intervene in a fight with D-16 and Starscream, but was stopped by Soundwave. He is also very hesitant to work with others, unless persuaded through forceful means, as Elita-1 was able to do so by threatening him with force.

Because of their shared ideology and common enemy, Shockwave advocates Megatron's cause and is more than willing to destroy of all Iacon, for the sake of destroying anything left behind Sentinel's legacy. As such, he and the rest of the High Guard follow Megatron to the very end and willingly serve under his command as the Decepticons.

Biography[]

Just like many of the members of the High Guard, Shockwave was recruited by the Thirteen Primes along with their chief advisor Sentinel, and was given the job to lead the High Guard. With the High Guard, Shockwave helped the Primes protect Cybertron against threats like the Quintessons. But after seeing Sentinel's betrayal as he slaughtered the Primes, Shockwave and the High Guard went into hiding on the surface continuing to fight in the shadows to sabotage Sentinel as they came to believe that might makes right over unifying all of Cybertron. Shockwave eventually became one of Starscream's lieutenants.

After Orion Pax, D-16, Elita-1, and B-127 escaped from the Death Trackers, they unknowingly entered the High Guard's hiding spot. Mistaken for spies, they were captured and taken for interrogation under Starscream's supervision. Starscream offered them two options: they could either endure a slow and painful death or provide information about Sentinel for a quicker and cleaner demise. When Elita-1 questioned why B-127 was gagged, Shockwave explained that they had to gag him because he wouldn't stop talking, even while he was unconscious. Once B-127 managed to remove the gag, he angrily complained to Soundwave that they should have tightened the gag more. He insisted that he had told Soundwave it wasn't tight enough. A fight broke out between Starscream and D-16, and when Shockwave tried to intervene, Soundwave stopped him. After D-16 emerged victorious, Shockwave cheered for his new leader and vowed to lead them to Iacon to destroy Sentinel.

However, Airachnid and the Death Trackers managed to track down the High Guard's hideout and got half of the High Guard captured (including D-16, Starscream and B-127). Recovering from the attack, Shockwave and Soundwave debate on what to do next but the remaining High Guard were recruited by Orion and Elita. Shockwave loudly objected to the notion of taking orders from Orion, but a swift punch to his eye from Elita immediately changed his mind. Because they didn't have enough soldiers Orion would recruit his miner friends while Shockwave and Soundwave helped Elita take control of one of the Energon trains. Once they were in Iacon, Soundwave ordered the High Guard to eject as the Death Trackers charged at them.

Shockwave saw the overwhelming numbers and suggested aborting, but Orion came with the reinforcements, then Airachnid attack Orion and crashed into the front of the train where they crashed into the Sentinel's tower where Soundwave freed the prisoners and Shockwave fought Sentinel's forces. Once D-16 killed Sentinel and renamed himself Megatron, Shockwave obliged his order to attack Iacon, only to be interrupted by a returned Orion - now rechristened Optimus Prime. He then rushed in to engage Optimus in combat but was swiftly knocked down, made to shoot Starscream, and kicked away by Optimus for his troubles, the force of the kick bending his arm cannon and making him shoot himself in the face.

After the newly-christened Optimus Prime defeated Megatron in battle, Shockwave was banished alongside Megatron and the High Guard. In their exile, the group was rechristened the Decepticons, and the faction's insignia based on the face of Megatronus Prime was branded on both his shoulders.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike his previous iterations, this version of Shockwave does not appear to be a scientist nor possess any scientific knowledge of the sorts. He is also more aggressive, expressive and quickly prone to frustration, in contrast to his general cold, emotionless demeanor that most of his other iterations are known for.
  • Shockwave's alternate mode is based on the jet mode he possessed in the War for Cybertron games, as well as the one that his toy had from the War for Cybertron trilogy.
  • Like Soundwave, Shockwave's design is based more on his original G1 toy than the original cartoon's character model, which is especially evident in his broader profile and wider and more squat head design.
  • The scene where he got punched by Elita has become a meme in the Transformers community, where it's often joked that getting punched in the eye by Elita is the origin of his hatred towards female Cybertronians.
