Sholakh

Sholakh is the secondary antagonist of the Doctor Who story "The Ribos Operation".

He was portrayed by the late Robert Keegan.

Biography[]

Sholakh was the general of the Levithian ruler Graff Vynda-K, who had fought with him in his frontier wars, including spending nearly a year in the labyrinths of Freytus and planting the Graff's standard in the heart of the Crestan general on Crestus Minor. When the Graff was deposed in his absence, Sholakh accompanied him into exile. They dreamed of retaking the Graff's throne, with Sholakh declaring there would be no better way to spend a lifetime than raising an army. The Graff hoped to use Ribos, a planet in a medieval stage of development, as a base when Garron approached them posing as a representative of the Galatron Mining Company and offering to sell it to them.

The Graff quickly showed Sholakh a forged report stating the planet was rich in jethryk, which he planned on using to fund their campaign. This was reinforced by the sight of a piece of jethryk in the crown jewels cabinet and a story told by Garron's accomplice Unstoffe (who had planted the jethryk) about a lost mine. The Graff agreed to give Garron a deposit to be held by the Captain of the Shrievalty but began to suspect Garron of deception on learning they were being bugged. He, Sholakh and their men confronted Garron, along with the Doctor and Romana who were with them, and took them all prisoner.

It was then discovered that Unstoffe had stolen both the Graff's gold and the jethryk. Sholakh and the Graff followed the Captain's investigation which ended when the local witch, the Seeker, sensed he had gone to the city's catacombs, where the Captain refused to follow. Meanwhile, the Doctor, Romana and Garron also escaped to the catacombs. Sholakh convinced the Graff they should enlist the Seeker as a guide. When the Captain showed no urgency in summoning her, Sholakh agreed with the Graff that he was being discourteous and agreed with the Graff killing one of the Captain's men to make his point.

The Seeker led the Levithians to Garron and Unstoffe, reclaiming the jethryk. The Graff ordered Sholakh to have the pair killed, but they were distracted by the appearance of one of the native Shrievenzale creatures, turning their fire on it. At the same time, the Captain fired off a cannon to seal the catacombs, causing a rockfall that killed most of the Graff's men. Sholakh was fatally wounded in the rockfall, only managing to give the Graff the jethryk and tell him to leave him before dying of his wounds.
