Shub-Sogoth is a minor antagonist of the Monica's Teen spin-off, present only in the issue "Heirs of the Earth: Conclusion". It is one of the Shadow People and the administrator of the Quadrivium, a floating fortress located above the abyss of the Serpent.
Biography[]
Shub-Sogoth is a member of the Shadow People, an evil alien race servant to the Serpent. It was chosen to administrate the Quadrivium, a floating palace located above the great abyss of Planet Tomb, where the Serpent and the rest of the Shadow People resided. As such, it was responsible for making decisions in its master name, like atracting the Gang to Planet Tomb so they could destroy it and free the Serpent from her prision.
When the trio of Engineers arrived on Tomb with both Nick Nope and Rosie as prisioners, Shub ordered its vassals to infect them with Liquid Shadow and turn them into servants of the Serpent. While Rosie was fully possessed by the dark forces and became on of the Shadow People, Nick Nope's stubborn personality made him immune to the liquid, so in turn he was tortured and place in the entrance hall of the fortress as a "welcoming gift" for the Gang when they arrive in the planet.
After the Gang entered the Quadrivium and rescued Nick Nope, Rosie appeared and take them to Shub Sogoth, who then explains to them about the Serpent and how Planet Tomb was the final destination of wicked souls, that is, Hell. Shub ordered Rosie to kill the Gang, but Franklin and the Astronaut appeared just in time to rescue the Gang and dissipate the dark clouds that covered Tomb. As the Shadow People only weakness was sunlight, Shub-Sogoth and the rest of it species was burned to death as the entire planet exploded.
Appearence[]
As a member of the Shadow People, Shub-Sogoth is made of Liquid Shadow, thus it can alter its physical appearence at its will. In the Heirs of the Earth: Conclusion issue, it had a dark and serpentine body, with a long tail and hidden arms in his cloak. Its head has spikes that resembles either a crown or horns.
Trivia[]
- As part of the cosmic horror theme of the Heirs of the Earth saga, Shub-Sogoth is a reference to the Eldritch beings form H.P. Lovecraft works. It name is a portamentau of Shub-Niggurath and a variation of Yog-Sothoth.
