Sid Swashbuckle is a supporting antagonist in the Nickelodeon computer-animated show, Paw Patrol. He is a teenage pirate in need of always taking everything. He first appeared (along with his pet dog Arrby) in "Sea Patrol: Pups Save Puplantis".

He was voiced by Charles Vandervaart.

Appearance

Sid stands the height of an average adult, and has pale skin with faint freckles, red hair in a ponytail tied with a red string, and green eyes. He wears a black pirate's hat with a gold treasure chest and crossbones symbol on it, and a red bandanna underneath his hat, along with a tan-orange coat with gold trimming covering a black shirt with gray trimming, fastened together with a black belt with a gold buckle. He also wears blue pants with a gold stripe and brown boots with two straps.

Personality

Sid is shown to be greedy and power-hungry, and has a large collection of various items in his ship, such as toy trucks, rubber ducks, televisions, electric guitars, bouncy balls, and more. Apart from his greed, Sid appears to have a magpie complex, in that once he sees something and decides he wants it nothing will stop him or dissuade him otherwise, as more than once he's set his eyes on a target and claimed he needed it even if he didn't have a real reason why. He uses Arrby to help him "fetch" the items he wants, no matter how useful they will end up being for him. After he is defeated by the PAW Patrol, he gets very cranky; and an anxious Arrby has to soothe him. However, he does have a soft side, as he's stolen dog treats specifically for Arrby and treats the latter with respect.

Sid is quite loud and he shouts a lot of his lines. He is passionate and expressive, and talks in pirate speech, such as "arr".

Biography

Sid is a young adult pirate. He is the captain of the Swashbuckle Sloop. He's known for stealing items, even when he doesn't need them.

Paw Patrol

Sea Patrol: Pups Save Puplantis
Sid Swashbuckle first appears on his pirate ship looking for something he can steal for his treasure collection. He tells his dog, Arrby that he found a camera, and he needs it. Arrby replied saying that he already has a lot of cameras, and said that he needs a life buoy next. After Arrby offered the same response, Sid says he needs something else, that he doesnt know yet but needs something. He sings his own theme song about himself saying that he is a brave, tough pirate, who will sail the world taking everyone’s stuff. He says he needs everything more than anyone else, and will take it from sea and land. He also shows a little bit of his treasure collection, and repeats his line, “I’m Sid the Pirate, bold and tough. Sailing the world, and taking all your stuff!” Afterwards, he spots the Mer-Pups and finds out where they are going. He sends Arrby to chase after the merpups and find out where they are going. In his scuba gear, Arrby acknowledges Sid and then follows the Paw Patrol. As the Paw Patrol head to Puplantis, Arrby follows and checks it out. After Sid finds out Puplantis has a shell that spawns magic pearls, Sid tells Arrby to get it, but says he’s not sure how. Sid then says he will come to help, transforming his ship into a submarine to come down and help Arrby. Sid carries an octopus balloon, and says that will help distract the Paw Patrol so they can take the shell. After that, they flee and Puplantis starts to fall apart, with Rocky explaning that Arrby took the shell while they were distracted. Ryder said he was right, and that the only way Arrby could’ve taken the shell was with the help of an accomplice. Their next appearance is when the shell makes pearls saying that it would make a great collection. However, they eventually get stuck when too many pearls are made by the shell, causing the sub to crash. Sid and Arrby beg the Paw Patrol for help, and Arrby says it was him again, which is when it is revealed that Sid Swashbuckle was the one who sent Arrby to get the shell. Ryder sends Chase to chase after Sid’s sub, and opens the bottom of the sub to get all the stolen pearls. Sid speeds away unaware that the rest of his stuff fell with the pearls. After Chase transforms into a merpup, he gets the shell back and follows Mama Merpup. Sid confusedly realizes how the pups stopped him, only to go to the basement of his ship to find out he lost his treasure collection. He throws a tantrum in defeat, but cheers up when Arrby says he hasn’t lost him, as Arrby kisses him by licking him after.

Trivia

• Sid Swashbuckle is the second human antagonist in Paw Patrol after Mayor Humdinger. He is also the first human pirate captain to be active in the modern day, as Jack Scallywag (mentioned in Sea Patrol: Pirate Pups to the Rescue) is a historical pirate, while Captain Blackfur was a historical pirate pup who was mistakenly believed to be a human pirate until the PAW Patrol found his treasure.
• Sid apparently suffers from kleptomania, given his impulsive need to steal things even though the items are not needed for personal use (as he has large numbers of various stolen items stored in his ship such as cameras, guitars, and buoys) or for their monetary value (as there is no indication that he sells the items he steals).
• Sid, along with Arrby, is the third antagonist to steal something from the PAW Patrol in the episode "Sea Patrol: Pups Save Their Pirated Sea Patroller":
  • They steal the Sea Patroller while the PAW Patrol raised the Ferris wheel.
  • They trap Robo-Dog and kidnapped Marshall once he set paw on the ship.
  • They steal Marshall's pup-tag for awhile and kept it in a box to warn the PAW Patrol.
• In French, Sid's surname was changed to Laratisse. It's currently unknown if this surname has any meaning like his English surname.
• According to the episode "Sea Patrol: Pups Save a Sunken Sloop", both Sid and Arrby get motion-sickness easily.
