Silat (シラット Shiratto?) is a major character of the Berserk franchise. He is a highly skilled and agile Kushan fighter first encountered by Guts in the Golden Age arc.
Appearance[]
Silat looks like a typical Kushan with dark skin, long dark hair. He has thin facial lines and angular eyes and his eye color is black, slightly pointed nose and chin. He has slender limbs and a long body.
He wears a bukhti dastar in his head and a part of the bukhti dastar as a mouth cover when in battle or doing his work. He wears a Rajput type of armors, his first armor is made of chainmail over a layer of leather, and the breastplate parts of the armor cover his shoulders and stomach. He uses a long piece of cloth as a belt by wrapping it around his armor. His hands are completely bare except for the jeweled bracelet and bangles he wears. Under the armor he wears cloth-like clothes, from which the end of the armor becomes a long colth, and in his trousers he also has the boots of the Rajput Warroir.
Bio[]
During the Golden Age arc, Silat and Guts first met prior to the Eclipse in a fight tournament at a carnival to determine who would lead a band of mercenaries to finish off a very battered and demoralized Band of the Hawk. When a victorious Guts refused to claim the prize, Silat, as runner-up, took on the job, which led to his second defeat. Years later, it is revealed that Silat is the leader of the Bākiraka clan, and that he is working under emperor Ganishka in order to restore his people to their rightful place. To do this, he has tried to find and capture Griffith, but was unsuccessful in the task. However, after he witnessed how his emperor creates his demon soldiers, the dāka, and saw Ganishka's frightening sorcery while the emperor himself fought off Griffith's apostle lancers, he may be questioning his sworn allegiance. A Kushan engineer of Griffith's named Jaris offered Silat a position in the Band of the Hawk, but Silat has thus far not accepted, showing an apparent disdain for blind obedience in demi-gods.
Personality[]
Silat was initially arrogant and looked down on fighters from Midland as poorly trained compared to him. He holds this attitude until being defeated by Guts twice, which makes him become more cautious and observant, which manifests years later when he tells his soldiers not to pursue Guts as Guts had just killed five Kushan scouts in one swing. Silat wishes to bring his clan back its honor and glory that it once had.
He loathes Rakshas -who was formerly a Bākiraka clansman- because of his hedonistic attitude toward killing. According to Silat, the Bākiraka have caught glimpses of an "inescrutable current", leading him to wonder whether it was right to yield themselves to something inescrutable.
Powers and abilities[]
- Peak Human Psychical Condition: Silat is in top psychical form. Despite his thin body frame, he is able to match blows with stronger opponents like Guts. He is tough enough to bounce back from being send flying a few feet from an attack by Guts. His reflexes are honed to the point where he can catch an arrow in mid-air, just a few inches from a Kushan leader's face.
- Master Acrobat: Silat is a highly agile fighter, able to use unpredictable and unorthodox maneuvers to surprise his foes.
- Master Combatant: Silat is a highly skilled unarmed and armed fighter. His combat style is similar to Kalarippayattu, using acrobatics to gain the offense edge on his opponents. he has defeat Valancia in a tournament duel despite his enormous size and strength advantage. He also fought an exhausted Casca, nearly killing her in the process. He has also fought Guts twice, but was defeated by the Hundred Man Slayer both times. Along side his bodyguards, he was able to fight the former Bakiraka turned apostle Rakshas, even managing to break his mask and cut his cheek.
- Weapon Mastery: Silat is highly skilled with exotic weapons including chakram, katars, urumis, and hidden boot blades. He can wield two urumis with enough skill to kill an armored person like peeling an apple. His skill at throwing charm is great enough to trick throw them in misleading directions.
- Expert Tactician: Silat is an expert in combat tactics and strategy. In close combat, he uses tri-bladed katars and a blade hidden in his boots, with his speed, flexibility and techniques, he can easily dodge the attacks of mercenaries or knights of the Holy See, and then turn the tables on the enemy at the right moment by either destroying the enemy's weapon or trapping it between the triple-edged katar blades and moving them close to the enemy’s neck and forcing the enemy to surrender or die. For a long distance, he uses chakrams and urumis, throwing chakras either directly at the enemy, or in different directions and waits for them to change course, then kills the enemy by surprise. If the enemy is more skilled, he will pull out urumis to attack from a range at multiple angles of attack. He also learns from his past mistakes, as after his two defeats at the hands of Guts, he ordered his men to leave him be when the Black Swordsman was spotted.
- Leadership: As the leader of the Bakiraka, Silat is very cable of leading his group or the Midland mercenaries in battle.
- Stealth: As an assassin, Silat is highly skilled at stealth tactics as he was able to ambush the band of the Hawk.
Equipment[]
- Katars: Silat carries two tri-blade katars as his main weapons of choice. They can close into the main blade with enough force to decapitate someone or break a sword. However, they can be broken with enough force as demonstrated during his rematch against Guts.
- Urumis: Silat carries two sword like whips with five tendrils on each weapon which he can use to attack from a distance. They are the most powerful weapons in the his arsenal, as they are so difficult to handle normally that a human would only use one, but he is skilled enough to use two with them.
- Chakrams: Silat carries these bladed throwing rings as projectile weapons. He can throw one or multiple at once for attack or distraction.
- Boot Blades: Silat has hidden blades within both of his boots which he uses for surprise attacks. He could also hold an arrow head-like blade between his toes for a surprise attack, which he used against Rakshas.
