Raya van Zandt, also known as Silver Ghost, is a minor antagonist in season 5 of The Flash, appearing as the main antagonist of the episode "The Flash & The Furious".
Raya is an ex-Air Force pilot turned car thief who wields a meta-tech key fob that allows her to control all motorized vehicles. She recruits Joslyn Jackam to help her steal a Wayne Tech car in the possession of A.R.G.U.S., bringing them into conflict with the Flash and his daughter, Nora West-Allen/XS.
Raya was once a member of the DOD under the codename Silver Ghost. During her service van Zandt swiftly moved up the ranks earning top marks as an expert Air Force pilot and vehicle operator. However, she was demoted by her superiors for failing in the line of duty overseas and dishonorably discharged after leaving the Air Force.
Sometime after the Enlightenment, Raya embarked on a life of crime and began stealing high performance vehicles using a key fob which contained a shard from DeVoe's satellite, that when activated releases a pulse of dark matter overriding any guidance system and giving Raya complete control over any type of car she chooses simply by clicking the fob.
Crime spree[]
Raya is first seen watching a video report about Joslyn Jackam's trial on her phone. She casually starts walking past a man pulled over for driving after having four martinis and commandeers his Lamborghini with her fob, driving away. The Flash and XS chase her down, but Raya uses her abilities to saturate the car with unstable dark matter causing Barry's body to destabilize as he attempts to phase through the vehicle to apprehend her, rendering the Scarlet Speed in a constant phasing state the rest of the day and stuck in S.T.A.R. Labs pipeline until he returns to normal.
Meanwhile, Van Zandt intercepts Joss' prison transfer to Iron Heights by shutting down the convoy, setting her free. Raya tells Joss that she wants them to form a new generation of Rogues and that she has several other candidates in mind, but only needs Joss and her staff to break into an A.R.G.U.S. facility that houses advanced weapons tech. Joss declines Raya's offer out of fear of becoming a criminal like her father and decides to turn herself in only to be betrayed by XS. At CCPD, Raya creates a distraction by causing all the police cars in the lot to go off and springs Joss from jail once again.
The two of them infiltrate A.R.G.U.S. and abscond with a prototype stealth automobile developed by Wayne Tech that Raya called the S.A.M. They are confronted by XS who tries to apologize Joss, but is cut off by Raya who fires a missile at the speedster and uses her fob to make the car along with themselves invisible. Cisco patches Nora's voice into the radio, urging Joss to turn herself in and offering a second chance. Raya attempts to run Nora down, but Joss secretly sabotages her by freezing the road with her staff causing the car to crash on the side of the road. Van Zandt is baffled by what happened and teleports away with Joss in a bolt of lightning.
Silver Ghost's exact fate is unclear, though it is heavily implied that Joss killed her while they were in Bolivia.
