Silvija Sablinova, better known as Silver Sable, is a supporting antagonist from Marvel Comics, serving as a supporting character in the Spider-Man franchise and the titular main protagonist of the Silver Sable and the Wild Pack comic book series.
Native to the small European nation of Symkaria, she is a professional mercenary, the leader of the Wild Pack mercenary team, and the owner of the private military company Silver Sable International. She primarily appears as either an ally or enemy of Spider-Man, depending on the circumstances.
Silvija Sablinova is the daughter of Ernst Sablinova, who founded the Wild Pack and worked with the government of Symkaria in hunting down Nazi war criminals following World War II. The traumatic experience of seeing her mother murdered by her father's enemies inspired her to follow in his footsteps, training under him to become Nazi-hunting mercenary. Following Ernst's death, Silvija inherited leadership of the Wild Pack and her father's title of Silver Sable, and also founded the private military company, Silver Sable International.
As time passed, while the Wild Pack continued their mission of apprehending war criminals, they also began to accept other mercenary jobs for profit. Silver Sable's mercenary operations with both the Wild Pack and her company are the primary drive of Symkaria's national economy. Symkaria is the southern neighbour Latveria, ruled by Doctor Doom, and Silver Sable attends an annual diplomatic dinner with him in Latveria's capital, Doomstadt.
Under the auspices of Sable International, the Wild Pack apprehends wanted criminals and recovers stolen property for a wide spectrum of clients from major insurance companies to small nations. One such contract was the apprehension of the international jewel thief the Black Fox and the return of valuable gems in his possession. Working with the New York City police, the Wild Pack nearly apprehended him, only to be thwarted by the inadvertent actions of Spider-Man. Eventually Spider-Man recovered the jewels but allowed the thief to escape.
Silver Sable International was later hired by a small South African country to neutralize the international terrorist Jason Macendale (Jack O'Lantern), suspected of training rebel forces within the client's borders. An initial team of Wild Pack members was ambushed by Macendale's men and nearly killed, leading Silver Sable to enlist aid from Spider-Man.
During the course of these events, Sable became involved in a daylight robbery that resulted in the death of a young woman, an innocent bystander accompanied by her young son. The woman's death struck a responsive chord in Sable, and she dropped her other activities to hunt down the killer. His trail led to an abandoned building, where Jack O'Lantern chose to attack Silver and her men. During the final confrontation, her choice to capture the killer enabled Jack O'Lantern to escape.
Spider-Man then agreed to help Silver capture Jack O'Lantern. They tracked him to Coney Island Amusement Park, only to be ambushed by the group of costumed criminals called the Sinister Syndicate, the Beetle, the Rhino, Hydro-Man, Boomerang and the Speed Demon, who were hired to kill Macendale's pursuers. They nearly succeeded, but were stopped at the last minute by the Sandman, who allowed Sable and Spider-Man to escape. After a long battle, the three managed to defeat the criminals, but nothing was found to help them locate Jack O'Lantern.
Other versions[]
Spider-Verse[]
In the Spider-Verse storyline, Sable is a member of the Hounds who works for Verna of the Inheritors to hunt Spider-Totems. She and the other Hounds accompany Verna to Earth-1610 to hunt Miles Morales. However, she was killed by the Superior Spider-Man along with his allies Spider-Punk and Assassin Spider-Man.
Ultimate Universe[]
The Ultimate Marvel iteration of Silver Sable is the mercenary leader of the Wild Pack. Born in Symkaria, Sable had a troubled childhood, apparently ignored by her father and abused by her alcoholic mother. In reality, her father hunted Nazis and she forgave him at his deathbed, deciding to follow his footsteps. While an antagonist to Spider-Man, she is not actually a villain so much as a bounty hunter, and she holds a particular ill-will towards Spider-Man.
As the titular secondary antagonist in the "Silver Sable" story arc, Silver Sable was hired by Donald Roxxon to capture Spider-Man for questioning. After weeks of tracking, Sable's mercenaries mistakenly captured Flash Thompson. As they discussed whether to murder Thompson to prevent him from identifying them, Flash escaped. Sable's Wild Pack later captured and brought Spider-Man to Roxxon, who wanted to know why Spider-Man had been defending his company from super villain attacks. Not believing Spider-Man's explanation that he was only in a position to defend the company through sheer chance, Sable and Roxxon ran a background check on him, but this caused a high level S.H.I.E.L.D. alert. While listening to Roxxon's argument for protection, Sable's Wild Pack were attacked by the Vulture. After escaping the chaos, Sable threateningly demanded Roxxon to pay the reward money and swore she will kill Roxxon if their names were told to the authorities.
During the "War of the Symbiotes" story arc, Silver Sable and her Wild Pack members were hired by Bolivar Trask to capture Eddie Brock Jr. Sable and the Pack captured Venom after a fight with Spider-Man. Sable spared Spider-Man from being taken by the Wild Pack as a thanks for subduing Venom. After delivering Venom to Trask, Sable's Wild Pack provided security for Trask's experiment to remove the Venom symbiote. The Beetle breached the facility, paralyzing Sable with knockout gas. Sable's Wild Pack later fought with the Venom symbiote after it abandoned Brock and possessed Spider-Man. Sable's Wild Pack tried to subdue Venom, but were unable to do so until the Ultimates arrived. Despite trying to escape, the Ultimates took the Wild Pack into custody, with Sable being tranquilized by the Wasp. Sable and the Pack were then imprisoned by S.H.I.E.L.D.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series[]
Silver Sable appears in the Spider-Man: The Animated Series five-part episode "Six Forgotten Warriors", voiced by Mira Furlan. This version is recruited by Rheinholt Kragor alongside the rest of the Wild Pack to gather information about the Red Skull's Doomsday device, capture two scientists to help operate it, and keep it from falling into the Kingpin's hands. Sable later kidnaps Spider-Man, Kingpin, and the Insidious Six for Rheinholt, but she and the Wild Pack eventually betray Rheinholt and join forces with Spider-Man, Captain America, the Forgotten Warriors, and the Insidious Six to fight Rheinholt, the Red Skull, and the Chameleon.
Spider-Man: The New Animated Series[]
Silver Sable appears in Spider-Man: The New Animated Series episode "Spider-Man Dis-Sabled", voiced by Virginia Madsen. This version is a russian bounty hunter named Silver Sablinovia who eventually teamed up with Kraven the Hunter to take down Spider-Man. On assignment, she and her unit are hired to go undercover at the mayor's office as "Jane Perkins" and assassinate known terrorist The Piranha (Harlan Tremain).
In the episode "Spider-Man Dis-Sabled", Spider-Man encounters her as she attempts to assassinate the mayor of New York City, who is later revealed to be the Piranha, an undercover terrorist plotting to kill the President. After discovering Peter Parker caught her on surveillance, she kidnaps his friends Mary Jane Watson, Harry Osborn, and Indy. Once Spider-Man rescues them, he confronts Sable, but she escapes.
In the episode "Mind Games" [Pt. 1], Sable seemingly joins Kraven to seek revenge on Spider-Man. While Spider-Man defeats her and she is arrested, Sable is later revealed to have been a hologram used by the Gaines twins to manipulate him as part of an attempt to get revenge on Kraven for killing their father. In the same episode, information on a computer screen indicates that this Silver Sable comes from Russia instead of Symkaria.
The Spectacular Spider-Man[]
Silver Sable, renamed Sable Manfredi, appears in The Spectacular Spider-Man, voiced by Nikki Cox. This version is the daughter of crime boss Silvermane and had a past romantic relationship with and persisting interest in Hammerhead until being manipulated by him in her last appearance in the show. She is a skilled fighter, and totes a huge gun, a bolas, and shuriken as weapons, similar to her comic counterpart. Unlike her 616 counterpart however, she is nowhere near as competent.
In the episode "Accomplices", she represents her jailed father in an underground auction organized by Oscorp for a chip that contains technology capable of producing super-soldiers akin to the Rhino. However, she is opposed by Hammerhead and Roderick Kingsley. When the latter outbid her, she attacks him at the docks in an attempt to retrieve the chip, coming into conflict with Hammerhead and Spider-Man. Sable is eventually defeated, but escapes police custody. In the episode "Gangland", Sable appears alongside Silvermane at a Valentine's Day summit with Tombstone and Doctor Octopus. However, Hammerhead betrays them all in a failed attempt to seize control of the criminal underworld.
Spider-Man (2017 cartoon)[]
Silver Sable appears in the 2017 Spider-Man animated series, voiced by April Stewart. In the episode "Take Two", she and the Wild Pack are hired by an anonymous client to steal the Neuro Cortex from Horizon High. After studying Spider-Man's moves and stealing the device, they lure him to Manhattan, where he receives assistance from Doctor Octopus in defeating them. It is later revealed in the episode "Between an Ock and a Hard Place" that the Wild Pack was hired by Doctor Octopus. In the episode "My Own Worst Enemy", Sable attempts to set off explosive A.I.M. caches in Central Park, only to be stopped by the Superior Spider-Man.
Silver Sable appears as a major antagonist in the 2018 video game Marvel's Spider-Man by Insomniac Games. Much like in the Ultimate Spider-Man game and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, she is hunting Spider-Man as a hired mercenary.
In the video game Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, Silver Sable is after Juggernaut, the level's main villain. She and her Wild Pack attempted to capture Spider-Man as well as a secondary target, because there was a reward on his head. Unfortunately for Sable, her men are not only shown to be completely incapable of defeating either Juggernaut or Spider-Man, she also falls for Spider-Man's deceptions when he purposefully misdirects her and her men by removing the tracer on Juggernaut and throwing it away.
In the non-canon Ultimate Spider-Man video game, Silver Sable is depicted as a completely callous and self-interested mercenary who will accept jobs from anyone. Though both iterations of the character do retain some of the 616 version's moral scruples (an unwillingness to hurt innocents for example) she is still a villain due to having no problem targeting and kidnapping Spider-Man simply because she was paid to.
Made more egregious by the fact that, in the video game, even after Spider-Man risks his own life to save her from Venom, she still delivers him to Trask Industries where they perform experiments on him (briefly turning him into Carnage), and shows no remorse over this at all. All because she was paid. In addition, her claim that she's "not out to kill innocent people" is in fact hypocritical, given that Spider-Man himself is innocent, and so are his family (who Sable earlier threatened to try and force his compliance).
Silver Sable was briefly married to the Foreigner, but divorced him after discovering his attempt to kill the President of the United Sates. Their relationship since has been very turbulent, with their encounters ranging from non-beligerent to attempting to kill each other.
In the TV series Spectacular Spider-Man, Silver Sable is one of the only female antagonists in the series, alongside Calypso.
