The Simians are the overarching antagonists of Alberto Vazquez's 2nd full-length animated feature film Unicorn Wars.

They are a race of sapient monkey-like entities that roam around a set of ruins in the forest, dubbed as "the Church", worshiping an idol that they hope to bring back to life by means of a sinister ritual. With the revival of this idol, they had hoped to become the ultimate rulers of the forest.

Appearance

Sans their god-like leader, who looks more humanoid in appearance, all of the Simians appear as shadowy, muscular monkey-like figures with shades of red on their bodies. They also have large white glowing eyes, and razor sharp teeth.

They are usually shown be quadrupedal, walking on their hands and feet, but when they successfully resurect their god, and follow in its footsteps, they suddenly gain the ability to walk bipedally.

Biography

The Simians do not play any active role in the movie outside of its prologue and its ending. Throughout the rest of the movie, they can be spotted stalking and/or observing the other characters, likely watching as their ultimate goal comes into action.

In the prologue, which takes place after Private Coco had killed Maria's mother, the Simians are seen guarding the Church, which Maria enters when she hears her mother's voice. When she spots what appears to be her Mother, it is revealed to be a giant blob like monster that eats anyone that enters the Church, which is seemingly created from the various sacrifices that the Simians make on an altar. As Maria is being chased by the creature, the Simians follow suit before the scene cuts to the opening credits. Amist the chaos that ensues, one of the Simians get devoured by the creature, and another gets squashed by it.

In the ending, the Simians make their final appearance, with their ruins being burnt down amist the war, after providing their sacrifices to the altar. They then observe from the forest as Maria transforms into the blob-like creature from before, and eats Tubby and Bluey. The creature then transforms into a humanoid being, implied to be their God, which walks across the forest, covered in blood from all of the killings that the war had caused. The Simians again follow the humainoid creature before the credits roll.

Trivia

• It is implied that the prophecy told amongst the teddy bears may actually be a corruption of events surrounding the Simians. For example, though Bluey killing Maria and his own brother does indeed reawaken the God talked about in the prophecy, said God is implied to actually be that of the Simians, rather than the teddy bears, as the Simians soon after follow in its footsteps. As an another example, the prophecy tells of the teddy bears obtaining their bible from a "church", much like the one that the Simians reside in.
• Most of the simians appear to be males, since they have exposed masculine genitals.
