Simon Stagg is a minor antagonist in the DC Animated Universe, serving as the main antagonist in the Justice League two-part episode, "Metamorphosis".

He is a businessman whose company Stagg Enterprises specializes in chemical experimentation, most of which is conducted illegally. He is also the father of Sapphire Stagg and the arch-nemesis of the superhero Metamorpho.

He was voiced by the late Earl Boen, who also voiced Rhino in the same universe, Red Skull in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Señor Senior Sr. in Kim Possible, and Commander Lyle Rourke in the Atlantis The Lost Empire video games.

History[]

Stagg wanted to create the ultimate soldier referred to as Metamorpho for an oil company which wanted proof of it being safe. Stagg had his assistant Java smuggle some chemicals into Gotham, however one of the chemicals leaked causing a train wreck to nearly happen until John Stewart arrived to save the day. Stagg was jealous of Rex Mason, for dating his daughter Sapphire and turned him into Metamorpho by testing the chemicals on him. Stagg manipulated Metamorpho into attacking the Justice League, however Metamorpho went after Stagg after learning he was responsible.

Stagg had Java use a cold gun on Metamorpho and tried to get his men to dispose of him, but Metamorpho broke free and attacked Stagg at his company. However, Stagg's mind ended up being transplanted into a chemical rage fueled monster mind and went on a wild rampage in Metropolis as a result of the attack. When the creature finally got destroyed by Metamorpho, Stagg woke up in the hospital screaming. Stagg's status is unknown though it is likely that his crimes were exposed to the public by the Justice League and is currently in prison serving out his sentence.

Trivia[]

Stagg's Synthoid form bears a strong resemblance to Chemo, a chemically based monster that has threatened the world on several occasions.
