Sinis, or the Tree Bender, is a minor antagonist of the Netflix action-fantasy series, Blood of Zeus. He was a giant who forced any traveler who happened to stumble upon him to answer his riddle, but the truth is: he will kill anyone regardless of whether they failed the riddle or gave the right answer by having them be ripped apart by tying them to a pair of trees, hence his alias, the "Tree Bender".

It's revealed that he was the one responsible for killing Gorgo, a priestess of Artemis, who is also the lover of Seraphim.

Personality[]

Based on his brutal killing methods, Sinis is undoubtedly a sadistic giant who took pleasure in killing those who failed to answer his riddle correctly. In addition, he will go against his promises of letting those who answer his riddle go safely, as proven when he killed Gorgo and a helpless man despite her solving his riddle and telling him to let the man go if she answers correctly.

From what can be told from him murdering Gorgo, it could be assumed that he doesn't like it when someone successfully answers his riddle, showing that he might have a superiority complex of creating a nigh-impossible riddle to solve.

Biography[]

He only appears in the fifth episode of the second season of the series: "Judgement Day".

Where Seraphim in his human disguise finds the Tree Bender at his campfire, where Sinis asks the demon his famous riddle if he wants to pass the gorge. Seraphim agrees, but before Sinis could ask him the riddle, Seraphim demands Sinis to keep his word of allowing him to get through the passage, unlike a priestess who happened to be Gorgo, which Sinis remembers her and her answering his riddle correctly, where he still murdered her anyways.

Enraged and filled with revenge that he had finally found his lover's murderer, Seraphim reveals his demon form and engages in a combat with Sinis, where he emerges victorious by impaling the giant with Hades' bident and throw him off the cliff to his death, avenging the deaths of Gorgo and the other innocent people who died at Sinis' hands.

Trivia[]

  • He shows similarities to two mythological figures:
    • The figure of the same name from Greek mythology, as both will kill their victims by tying them to a tree and rip them apart. But unlike Sinis from Greek mythology, Sinis from Blood of Zeus was not slain by Theseus.
    • His Modus Operandi is challenging those who stumbled upon him to answer his riddle, and kill them if they failed, similar to the Sphinx from Greek mythology.
