Sir Cowler is the leader of the Alien Hunters, a group of alien mercenaries in the employ of Reconstructive Experiment Empire Mess, and a major antagonist in Choushinsei Flashman.

He was portrayed by Jouji Nakata, who would later go on to portray Great Professor Bias, Azald, Tankjoh, and Great King Boccowaus in the Super Sentai series.

Biography[]

Past[]

Little is known abut Cowler's prehistory, but it's heavily implied that he was already a notorious mercenary and bounty hunter, who committed multiple contract killings across the universe. At some point he gathered a team of his fellow alien hunters and created his own group of notorious alien mercenaries.

Flashman[]

Sir Cowler and his Alien Hunters were hired by Mess to kidnap various alien lifeforms for Mess to use in their genetic experiments. Among the beings Cowler and his men kidnapped were five human infants from Earth, only for them to be rescued by the Flash race before they could be used by Mess for their experiments.

20 years later, the five children that were rescued would become the Flashmen to oppose the Mess when they invaded Earth. Cowler would later arrive on Earth to assist the Mess in their invasion, though only so he would have an opportunity to fight the Flashmen whom he had heard much about. Cowler clashed with the Flashmen numerous times, going out of his way to impede their efforts to find their true parents.

After Lah Deus attempted to feed his Alien Hunters to Lie Köpflen's new Beast Warrior The Gitan, Cowler defected from the Mess and rescued his men, going on the run to oppose both Mess and the Flashmen. His right-hand man Bo Gardan soon arrived on Earth as well to assist him, though while they were able to save three of the Alien Hunters they lost Kerao when he was eaten by The Gitan.

Cowler would later lose Baura, Hag and Hou when they were abducted by the Mess and mutated into The Taffmoss before being destroyed by the Flashmen. Seeking to destroy Lah Deus at any cost, Cowler abducted Dr. Tokimura and forced him to create a second Gene Synthesizer. At the same time however, Bo Gardan was kidnapped by Leh Näfel and transformed into the Beast Warrior The Gardess. After using the Gene Synthesizer to weaken Lah Deus, Cowler stormed the Laboh and seemingly destroyed Lah Deus before going on to face the Flashmen and fight Flash Red in a one-on-one duel. He was fatally wounded by Flash Red and lost Bo Gardan when he was destroyed by the Flashmen as The Gardess, but unwilling to go just yet he abducted Sara in his personal flying saucer and flew away with her.

Cowler brought Sara to her parents' old home, helping her to discover the Tokimuras were her family. After dropping her there, Cowler flew off in his ship to attempt a suicide attack on Laboh, only to be destroyed.

Maskman[]

Sir Cowler, alongside Näfelura, is one of five revived villains who overwhelm the Maskmen before being defeated by a gathering of the previous Red Warriors including his old enemy Red Flash.

Turboranger clipshow[]

Sir Cowler appears in the clips from Choushinsei Flashman seen in the first episode of Kousoku Sentai Turboranger.

Personality[]

Cowler has a personality that is aggressive yet patient, knowing how to track down his prey and assault when they least expect it. He generally fights both on his own as well as alongside his Alien Hunter troops, whom he trusts and respects even more than the mutant warriors created by Köpflen. Cowler possesses a contradicting personality revealed during the series. At first he was shown as an extremely violent, ruthless, cold, caculating and remorseless mercenary, who has no qualms about murdering innocent people and helping the Mess conquer the Earth. He was shown to be quit antagonizing towards Flashmen, showing great contempt towards the heroes and despising to lose to them. After every defeat he suffered at their hands, he started hating the Flashmen more and more and with morr powerful intensity.

However, despite his ruthless, sadistic, violent and cold-hearted nature, Cowler wasn't completely evil. While he showed the complete absense of morality and great contempt towards Flashmen, co stantly insulting the heroes, but Cower was also an honest, honorable and fighter who didn't resort to cheat. He always played and fought fair and didn't resort to decept and cheat in battle. Also, beneath his ruthless and cold-hearted nature, Cowler was a loyal and loving friend towards his fellow alien hunters. Unlike Lah Deus and Köpflen who were willing to sacrifice their allies without hesitation, Cowler genuinely loved his comrades cared about them and wanted to get revenge on the Mess for murdering them. It was shown that he was slightly grateful to Jin for saving Kerao from the Mess.

Also, despite his immoral and depraved nature Cowler isn't completely without wisdom, honor and compassion towards others. After being betrayed by the Mess, he developed a great hatred to Kopflen and swore to get revenge on the evil scientist for murdering his friends. Als, Cowler even developed some kind of honor and respect towards Flashman, showibg thathe started hatig his former masters even more than his former rivas Flashman. He helped Sara find her true parentage and sacrificed himself to destroy the Mess. Even though it's debatable whether his intentions were truly honorable or merely a desire to get revenge on Kopflen, but he still showed genuine honor and somehow became the ally of the Flashman.
