Sir Eric Hazarias is the main antagonist of the serial Lost City of the Jungle, a Universal release from 1946. Faking his death in a car crash, he travels to Tibet to find a sample of the element meteorium and sell it to the highest bidder. Unfortunately, Lionel Atwill, who played the role of the villain, was dying of cancer at the time, and was unable to work past February 4, so new scenes were written in which a double appeared, completed by closeups of Atwill from earlier in the film, with dialogue spoken by Malbourn, the manservant of Sir Eric, who was now depiction as Sir Eric's master.
Synopsis []
After faking his death, Sir Eric travels to the very heart of Tibet in search of a lost city in the jungle. Operatives of the World Peace organisation follow him there, but he beats them to the city and to a chest containing half of the disc on which the location of the chest containing the meteorium is inscribed. He and Malbourn then steal the other half of the disk from Laska, the blonde female ruler of the area and force a local chieftain to translate the inscription for them, despite the plea of agent Dick Carter not to do so. After getting his hands on the chest containing the meteorium, Sir Eric shoots Malbourn and escapes in a plane. He then grapples with the pilot over the meteorium and in the process he fires a shot into the chest, blowing himself and the plane to Jeremiah .
