Sire Denathrius known as The Master by his most loyal followers, is one of the two secondary antagonists of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.

One of the Eternal Ones, the universe's Pantheon of Death, it was Denathrius divine task to punish the wicked and evildoers after their deaths, and in turn, grant them a chance at redemption beyond it. Much like his true master Zovaal, Denathrius originally held true to his purpose, and while his ways were cruel and at times even horrific, it was all in the name of preserving the balance, and he was not an outright evil being. Same as the Jailer though, his task began to slowly corrupt and warp him with darkness and malice. It isn't known when exactly Denathrius joined his fellow Eternal One in his campaign to remake all of creation, but it can be presumed to have happened at some point after Zovaal's own damnation as he was present and partook in his sentencing.

Denathrius is the supreme ruler of Revendreth, creator of the Venthyr, Stoneborn, as well as the Nathrezim, and the main enemy in the first part the Shadowlands expansion.

He was voiced by Ray Chase.

Biography[]

Denathrius came into being at some point in the earliest epochs of eternity alongside the rest of his kin. While the Pantheon of Titans were tasked with creation and life, the Pantheon of Death was tasked with lording over and maintaining death and the afterlife. Denathrius was chosen to rule over Revendreth, the realm of punishment and repentance. Here, souls containing darkness and evil within them were sent to be punished for their sins in life, with the Venthyr belief that pain purges the soul of wickedness. Those who repented and saw the evil of their ways were then granted redemption via being able to choose another realm of death to go to and begin eternal servitude in the name of the cycle, while those who were simply too destructive and evil, and could not be broken, were sent to The Jailer and The Maw for eternal damnation.

At some point in time, Zovaal fell to madness, and began his omnicidal crusade to bring about the end of all reality, in order to remake it in his image. He was defeated by his fellow Eternal Ones and sentenced to eternity of being locked away within his own realm, The Maw. Denathrius himself expressed regret at Zovaal's actions, claiming they could have achieved great things together, but nonetheless, sentenced him along with the others. At some point afterwards, Denathrius himself would become warped by his task, and later corrupted further and tempted by The Jailer, secretly siding with him, and beginning the catastrophic drought within The Shadowlands.
