Sirei is one of the three overarching antagonists (along with Kako-G and the Exodus Project) of the Action Adventure Visual Novel and RPG, The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-.

He is the principal of the Last Defense Academy and the commanding officer of the Special Defense Unit. Although he initially appeared as a eccentric but well meaning robot, he is eventually revealed to be a malfunctioning and genocidal artificial intelligence created by the Exodus Project who is determined to eradicate the Futuran species in order to colonize Futurum.

He is voiced by Hōchū Ōtsuka in the original Japanese version and by Joseph May in the English dub.

Appearance[]

Sirei resembles a small ghost with a round, pale body and black eyes. He sports a brown hat and a red bow tie and is often seen with a cane. Both his heart and brain are visible from the outside.

Personality[]

Sirei is a very eccentric individual. He loves cracking jokes and teases his students whenever he can. Even when trying to force them to fight the Invaders, Sirei shows himself to be calm and polite in his coercions.

Despite this, Sirei shows himself to be delusional when it comes to his ideals and refuses to acknowledge the fact that humanity is to blame for their own demise and even in one of his deaths in the game, he begs the SDU to save humanity despite humanity being extinct. His refusal to acknowledge this causes him to do many reprehensible things from abducting and brainwashing Eva to force her to be a killing machine to trying to destroy the entire planet just to spite the Futurans, despite the SDU being in danger as a result.

However, Takumi himself notes that Sirei at his core is not truly evil and there are many endings in the game where he can be redeemed with Takumi's help. Notably, although he helped capture Shion and intends on using him to destroy the Futurans, Sirei cares a surprising amount for him and genuinely hopes to one day give him a happy life; one of the paths that redeem him is so Shion can survive in the end.

History[]

Background[]

Sirei was an artificial intelligence created before the game began based on the mental pattens of humans who escaped a catastrophe called the World Death aboard a moon-like ship called the Artificial Satellite. He claims to be a perfectly rational judge of what is best for humanity because of this, as he has thousands of individual perspectives in his subconscious. However, these patterns were taken of people in a state of panic and despair over the World Death, and thus he cannot see things except in terms of humanity's survival at all costs, no matter the immorality. In particular, he does not seem aware that even at its current rate of resource consumption, the Artificial Satellite can continue operating for 200 years, believing the destruction of humanity is imminent.

He was involved in humanity's attempt to colonize Futurum after traveling to space, which went awry when the Artificial Satellite was actually the second wave of colonists - millennia before, a different colonial ship reached Futurum and its passengers had become transformed by a mysterious substance called cryptoglobin native to the planet, becoming a different species called the Futurans. Not believing that humans could live in peace with Futurans, the Exodus Project began the Human-Futuran war and thus, risked humanity's extinction. Rather than accept defeat, Sirei used what he could to forcibly restart the war, creating a doomsday device to wipe out the Futurans once and for all.

He was also involved in the capture of Shion, a powerful Futuran infant, whose DNA was used to create 15 artificial humans. Wanting to use these humans to revive the human race, Sirei activated them as teens and gave them false memories of different families and lives to give them incentive to fight the aliens.

Trivia[]

  • According to him, he apparently has bodily fluids and has to regularly use the bathroom.
  • Interestingly, Sirei only revives himself in endings where Eito, the boy who tried to silence him, is still alive.
  • One of his "Happy" sprites includes a small pin resembling Monokuma.
