“ | To him, fighting an impossible battle with full knowledge of its futility and taking joy in just the act of resistance itself is the ultimate rebellion against the oppressor. One must imagine Sisyphus happy. | „ |
~ The last part of the Terminal Data for Sisyphus Prime, summarizing the acceptance of his fate, and the thrill of preceding it. |
King Sisyphus is a supporting antagonist and an optional boss in the video game Ultrakill. He is the former ruler of the layer of Greed, and the leader of the Sisyphean Insurrectionists. As the ruler of the layer, he attempted to overthrow Heaven's control of the Greed layer with his army, only to be killed in battle and his forces punished further. After his death, he became a Prime Soul, being named Sisyphus Prime. He was then contained in the Flesh Panopticon, waiting for the right time to free himself from his prison.
He was voiced by Lenval Brown.
Appearance[]
King Sisyphus is a large, dark skinned middle-aged male with long, black hair with dreadlocks, and a large beard. His eyes are glowing, and covered in molten gold with a white cloth around his face.
As Sisyphus Prime, he is a golden translucent humanoid, with visible veins and a heart. His arms and legs are tipped with red, as if they were stained with blood. His head is a luminescent sphere emitting light, and his face is outlined with red, similar to his veins.
Personality[]
In contrast to King Minos, the King of Lust, King Sisyphus was a tyrannical ruler, and would do anything if it was needed to serve Greed layer. It's shown that he would protect his people if needed, even if said methods of doing so were to deceive and murder.
Sisyphus also does not show any regret on what has he done, and has accepted his fates for this. When Sisyphus suffered his punishment for several thousand years, he does not feel any sign of remorse, while planning his insurrection. During the war, his devotion that made his warriors be dependent on him was a sign that his insurrection was about to fail, and Sisyphus knew this, taking joy in his inevitable demise from the forces of Heaven.
Biography[]
When he was the King of Greed, Sisyphus was punished by Heaven for his sins; with his punishment being one that would break his motivation to continue on by being put through an unending task. Sisyphus would be subjected to this for several millennia and during it, he waited for the time to strike back.
After the disappearance of God, the layer of Greed was absent of any observation. During this, Sisyphus secretly planned an rebellion against the forces of Heaven with all Husks of the layer that were brave enough to participate in the attack. While Sisyphus' army was growing and prepared themselves for war, the Council was created and ordered Gabriel and his forces to destroy the insurrection. Gabriel and his angelic army was sent down into the Greed layer, and fought against Sisyphus' army.
As they fought, Gabriel beheaded Sisyphus, which left his army to be broken up. The Insurrections were then picked one by one by the Council, and removed everything but their left arm and their legs, keeping the bare essentials for their punishment of rolling mankind's monuments up endlessly to continue on. Sisyphus's soul was then confined into the Flesh Panopticon, and was reinforced with a plethora of the forces of Hell.
