Sklar is the secondary antagonist of the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Rise".
He was portrayed by Kelly Connell, who also played Norman Pfister in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Biography[]
Sklar was a Nezu exogeologist, who served as the aide to the ambassador. He was also a traitor working for the Etanian Order, a hostile race planning to annexe a Nezu colony. Sklar fed them information to further their plan to stage a natural disaster that would force the colony's evacuation, allowing the Etanians to occupy it. This plan was an asteroid strike which would decimate the colony.
Sklar boarded Voyager with the ambassador and watched as the ship made an only partial successful attempt to destroy one of the asteroids, portions of which crashed in a desert region. With further asteroids likely to strike heavily populated areas, Sklar attempted to convince the ambassador to evacuate the colony but the ambassador pointed out there wasn't time. Voyager was then contacted by astrophysicist Doctor Vatm, who told them the asteroids were artificial before being cut off.
Sklar accompanied Tuvok and Neelix in a shuttlecraft to the surface. The shuttle crashed although the three occupants survived unhurt. They met up with Vatm and a miner, Haljuan. Sklar attempted to question Vatm about his findings, as did Tuvok, but Vatm refused to speak to anyone but the ambassador. Since there was no time to repair the shuttle before the asteroids struck, Neelix suggested repairing a nearby mag-lift attached to an orbital tether, which could take them high enough to contact Voyager and be beamed aboard. The group headed to the lift station and were joined by another survivor of the bombardment, Lilias.
Vatm suddenly attempted to leave in the lift on his own but Sklar and the others managed to board it before it set off. Vatm had realised one of the group was probably a traitor but was unaware it was Sklar, who killed him by poisoning his drinking water. However, before he died, Vatm announced there was something important on the roof. Neelix stopped the lift and insisted someone check it out, with Tuvok reluctantly volunteering. Sklar followed him, knocking Neelix out in the process, and, as Tuvok discovered a data pad containing details of the approaching Etanian ship, Sklar attacked him and pushed him over the side of the gantry.
Sklar re-entered the lift but had incapacitated Neelix, the only person capable of operating it. He tried to force Lilias to start it at gunpoint or to work out the controls himself. While he was deliberating, Neelix recovered enough to let Tuvok, who had grabbed hold of the bottom of the lift, back into the cabin. Tuvok fought with Sklar and kicked him out of the door, causing him to plummet to his death.
