Villain Overview

We cannot intervene. There will be consequences.
~ Skrael, warning Bellroc about how the Arcane Order's plan could be foiled if they decide to intervene at the Battle of Killahead Bridge.
My patience grows thin, mortals. Don't you realize you've already lost? Merlin is dead at the hands of his greatest champion, and we turned his Trollhunter against you.
~ Skrael taunting the Guardians of Arcadia about Merlin's demise.
Nari. Naaarrriii! We have tracked you down, and we are bringing you back.
~ Skrael upon reaching the subway that Douxie and Archie are in.

Skrael is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Bellroc) of Wizards: Tales of Arcadia and the secondary antagonist of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.

He is the sadistic second-in-command of the Arcane Order, the creators of the universe, who plots alongside them to unlock the Genesis Seals to unleash the Titans upon the Earth and connect them to the last living Heartstone in Arcadia so he and the Order can wipe reality from existence and remake the Earth. However, Skrael ends up having his own plans to do so in a way that differentiates from his leader Bellroc's method and is ultimately disloyal to them.

He was voiced by Piotr Michael, who also voiced Bellroc's male voice, the Fearless Leader in the 2018 reboot of The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show and Major Threat in Wander Over Yonder.

Physical Appearance[]

Skrael has light blue skin and eyes with a black sclera, similar to that of an Akiridion. He also has a black line running on his chin and wears a horned animal's skull, black bracelets on his wrists and ankles, and a black cloak. He also has no hair and is shorter than Bellroc, and wields a staff that aligns with his element of ice.

Personality[]

Surrendering already? I was hoping for a little more… cat and mouse.
~ Skrael taunting Merlin about how he wanted to use a more sadistic method to kill him and his allies in a twisted game.

Skrael is an unforgiving and delusional individual who, millennia ago, came to believe that mankind was beyond correction, and therefore sees them as corrupt. Like the other members of the Arcane Order, Skrael was heavily dedicated to doing anything to bring back the balance between magic and mortal, but he and Bellroc had a twisted version of the balance where magickind would become dominant over humankind.

When Nari came to see that the Arcane Order were causing destruction instead of returning the balance, Skrael never came to see the error in his actions, even when she tried to convince the Arcane Order that what they were doing was wrong, proving him to be a hypocrite because he was just as corrupt as he saw mankind, if not more so.

He is also manipulative and petty as he used Morgana's compassion on magical being to turn her into the Eldritch Queen alongside the other members of the Arcane Order, and when Morgana failed the Order, Skrael decided to switch his goals from bringing back the balance to breaking the Genesis Seals to unleash the Titans upon the world, which, if just one of them connected with the Heartstone beneath Arcadia, would've restarted the world anew and reduced the universe to nothingness, as Aradia is the center of the universe.

In his heart, Skrael is also uncaring and selfish, as he cares about no one other than himself. In addition to this selfishness is his needlessly extreme sadism; he is the most sadistic member of the Arcane Order, even more so than his leader Bellroc, who is only sadistic in actions that benefits their goals. This is shown when he takes his time to torture Steve like a psychopathic man-child with nothing to gain and nothing to lose, and even though Bellroc tells him to stop and he apologizes, he shows that he isn't truly sorry by continuing to do so anyway.

This means that, despite serving Bellroc, he has no true loyalty to her and is only concerned about his own well-being. Skrael was also seen sadistically smiling when he revealed the identity of the Green Knight to Morgana and when Bellroc was burning down a town. He also even said to Merlin that he was hoping for more "cat and mouse", again showing his sadistic nature, and this quote also implies that Skrael didn't care about the balance from the beginning and is merely joining Bellroc to torture mortals.

Despite being needlessly sadistic, Skrael is also shown to be dangerously pragmatic, as he points out to Bellroc that the Arcane Order can't intervene at the Battle of Killahead Bridge or bad consequences would follow for them, and that burning down GDT Arcane Books, Merlin's library in Arcadia, is pointless.

He is also shown to be suspicious about Morgana after he and Bellroc release her from the Shadow Realm so she can become part of the Arcane Order once again, as when she is looking at a painting of her with Merlin and Douxie, he notes that she was naïve. He also asks her suspiciously about other places of Merlin's power other than GDT Arcane Books, and as it turns out, Morgana wasn't truly loyal to the Arcane Order anymore when she came back.

Powers and Abilities[]

An Infinite Corridor? Agh! Beginner's magic. You think this will hold us?
~ Skrael, telling Douxie that he and Bellroc are too smart to be tricked by an Infinite Corridor.

Despite not being the leader of the Arcane Order, Skrael still proved to be a very formidable foe to the Guardians of Arcadia, even without the Ice Titan. Being an over-a-millennia-old demigod, Skrael is skilled with many dangerous tactics that he could use in battle.

Powers[]

  • Cryokinesis: Skrael can use his magic to create ice at his will. This is shown when he creates long ice spikes to board his enemies, and also a blizzard to take down multiple soldiers at once.
  • Aerokinesis: Skrael can use his magic to create air at his will. This is shown when he created a blizzard to fight King Arthur's soldiers and when he flew to prevent Nari from being rescued by Douxie. Skrael also frequently uses air to levitate above the ground.
  • Frigokinesis: Skrael can use his magic to create snow at his will. This is shown when he created a blizzard to fight King Arthur's soldiers.
  • Necromancy: Skrael has the ability to bring back people from the dead, which is shown when he and Bellroc combined their magic to resurrect King Arthur to use him for the Arcane Order's plans.

Abilities[]

  • Staffsmanship: Skrael is capable of wielding his staff as his weapon and using it to do different attacks.
  • Manipulation: Despite not being as manipulative as Bellroc, Skrael was still able to hold off his own, as he was able to deceive Morgana to turn evil and convince King Arthur to turn into the Green Knight.
  • Combatant: He is excellent in his combativeness, as shown when he uses his magic to create a small tornado-like blizzard that killed several knights in his way.
  • Teleportation: Skrael can use teleportation to move from place to place faster in a mini-blizzard.
  • Flight: Skrael is able to use the icy winds to fly, and also flies faster when he is angry.
  • Levitation: Skrael can levitate without having to use his ice magic.

Trivia[]

  • Skrael was named after Skrælings, which were indigenous, North American people encountered in the 11th century by Vikings from Greenland. In Old Norse, the word Skrælings meant "foreigner" or "barbarian".
  • He, alongside Bellroc and Nari, is the first demigod to appear in the Tales of Arcadia franchise. Ironically, they are all siblings.
