Slag is the main antagonist of the 1966 short film, The Hobbit, a loose adaptation of the novel of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien.
He was voiced by Herb Lass, the narrator of the movie.
Biography[]
Terrorizing Dale[]
Slag was a dragon from the mountains. He is a dragon who likes killing others for his own amusement. Slag is first seen burning down a city called Dale, and all civilians perish save for a few, Princess Mika, Torin Oakenshield, and a watchman. They were told by the wizard named Gandalf that they must send a hobbit, named Bilbo Baggins, if they are to succeed in killing the dragon. Bilbo is not willing to fight a dragon, but, by falling in love with Mika, agrees. After a series of adventures, such as fighting Groans and an encounter with Goloom, Bilbo Baggins enters the lair of the dragon. Bilbo Baggins steals a stone, known as the Arkenstone, and crafts a bow with the Arkenstone as the arrow. Bilbo shoots the Arkenstone and it pierces the dragon`s heart, killing Slag. Bilbo Baggins married Princess Mika, and the two rebuild the city of Dale.
Bilbo Baggins and Princess Mika rule Dale, and eventually retire and settled in Hobbiton.
Appearance[]
Slag is a colorful dragon, as shown when he has rainbow colors on his neck. He also has long, sharp teeth, and big, nocturnal eyes. Like all dragons, he has the fiery breath.
Personality[]
Slag is an evil, homicidal dragon. He loves to burn down cities for his own amusement and seems to value treasure. This is shown as he lies on a pile of gold and values the Arkenstone, a special jewel. His actions led to his downfall, as he was shot to death by Bilbo Baggins.

- He is a loosely based incarnation of the dragon Smaug from the Middle-earth Legendarium.
- His original incarnation was not killed by Bilbo, but by a man known as Bard, who rebuilt the city of Dale.
