Sluggsy Morant and Sol Horowitz are the main antagonists of the James Bond novel The Spy Who Loved Me. They are small-time gangsters hired by a corrupt hotelier to destroy his hotel for the insurance money, running afoul of MI-6 secret agent James Bond in the process.
They do not appear in the film adaptation, which uses a completely different plot.
Biography[]
"Sluggsy" Morant and Sol "Horror" Horowitz are small-time gangsters specializing in arson for hire. In the novel, they are hired by hotelier Mr. Sanguinetti to burn down his hotel, The Dreamy Pines Motor Court, so he can collect the insurance money.
Novel[]
Sluggsy and Horror arrive at the Dreamy Pines Motor Court claiming to be insurance agents inspecting the property. In reality, however, they plan to burn the hotel down and frame the overnight manager, Vivienne Michel, and leave her to die in the fire.
They immediately make Vivienne uncomfortable by making crude passes at her and aggressively asking her to dance with them. When she refuses, they become violent, pinning her down and tearing at her clothes. Before they can rape her, however, MI-6 Agent James Bond, who was stranded in the area with a flat tire and looking for a place to spend the night, interrupts them by ringing the doorbell.
Sluggsy and Horror pretend to be hotel employees, but Bond quickly figures out that they are criminals and that Vivienne is in danger. Bond persuades them to give him a room for the night and gets Vivienne away from them. That night, Sluggsy and Horror set the hotel on fire, and trade gunfire with Bond as he escapes the burning building with Vivienne. The two thugs drive away, but Bond pursues them until they crash their car into a lake. Horror drowns, but Sluggsy survives.
As Bond and Vivienne are about to make love, Sluggsy bursts into their room and tries to kill them both. Bond draws his weapon first, however, and shoots him dead.
