Biography[]
As Nerville is attempting to advertise his fruit cart in the city to compete with a far more successful cupcake truck, Orange suggests to him that he needs to spice up the fruit cart's appearance to entice more potential customers. The scene then fades to show the newly redecorated fruit cart as Nerville continues to try getting customers to buy from it, only for two goons to approach and threaten him for failing to pay back his first payment by picking him up and shoving him in a trash can, before briefly leaving him alone to go get themselves some cupcakes.
Orange asks Nerville what all that was about, to which Nerville explains that he had to take out a lone in order to finance the fruit cart's renovation. Pear asks Nerville if he means the two goons were from the bank, only for Nerville to explain that the bank wouldn't lend him any money, so he instead went to Smash & Cash. The scene then cuts to a commercial for Smash & Cash, where the eccentric salesman encourages downtrodden people like Nerville to come to get a loan if they don't have credit, while promising to have their legs broken if they fail to pay back.
Feeling terrible, Orange decides to gift Nerville a mobility scooter, which Apple explains was actually given away for free from the company Scooter Town. The scene then cuts to another commercial for the aforementioned business, where the same salesman from the Smash & Cash commercial advertises the company's free, government approved mobility device giveaways to anyone that failed to pay back their loans at Smash & Cash.
Pear angrily tells Orange that it's all his fault that Nerville has gotten in trouble with the lone sharks, to which Orange agrees that he messed up and decides to try to fix things by getting himself a job at HumungCo so he can earn the money to pay off Nerville's loan.
After Orange is promoted to mid-level manager and finishes holding a meeting, his friends show up to greet him and ask if he has the money to pay off Nerville's loan, he tells them he had just earned a million dollars, only to clarify that it's in stock options he can only cash in after 17 years of employment. Old Banana then calls Nerville to explain that Orange still doesn't have the money and needs more time to get it for him, to which Nerville tells him not to worry as the Smash & Cash goons pick him up to bring him to the top of the roof.
After Orange is promoted by the CEO of HumungCo to Vice President in Charge of Mergers and Acquisitions, Pear reminds him that he needs to find a way to pay off the loan sharks for Nerville as soon as possible, which Nerville agrees with as the goons are holding him above the top of the building from his legs, threatening to drop him. Orange laments that he can't do anything to help Nerville, to which Passion Fruit explains to him that his current job as VP of Mergers and Acquisitions means he can buy other companies.
Realizing he can use his position to help Nerville, Orange decides to use his position to purchase Smash & Cash to stop the company's goons from threatening him. After the CEO of HumungCo congratulates Orange for his acquisition of Smash & Cash, he reveals that his company didn't have any real cash to make the purchase, and stupidly decided to borrow $800 million from Smash & Cash in order to finance the deal, before firing Orange on the spot.
The scene then cuts to Nerville thanking Orange for getting the loan sharks off his back, to which Orange jokes that they now have much bigger fish to fry, as the goons from Smash & Cash are now seen holding HumungCo's CEO and his son Junior above the building for failing to pay back their purchase of the company. The episode ends with the HumungCo CEO begging the goons to let him free, promising that he has stock options he can cash in after a few years, before telling them to let Junior go as he doesn't have any stock options of his own and doesn't even work at the company anymore.
Trivia[]
- The commercial salesman for Smash & Cash is eerily similar to Mr. Juicy Fun from the episode "Fruit Plane", as both are eccentric commercial businessmen played by Gabriel Iglesias that advertise a product or company that threatens the main characters in some way, have noticable facial hair, and wear a fedora covering their bald spot.
- It's possible that the two could be related in some way, if not outright the same person, though neither has been directly confirmed.
- Unlike most other antagonists in The High Fructose Adventures of Annoying Orange, the Smash & Cash company and its members remain entirely unpunished for their crimes, and are instead dealt with by having them target someone else.
