Smile Dog, also known as The Dragon or "Image Entity" is the main antagonist of the YouTube horror metafiction series ChainmailChasers. It is a demonic entity that haunts the computer of the protagonist Grace, and takes the form of various Smile Dog images.
Biography[]
Smile Dog is a picture of a grinning ghoulish dog downloaded from an archived post on the SomethingAwful forums. After Grace- the protagonist and owner of Creepypasta Lost Media channel ChainmailChasers- finds a bunch of emails pointing to the image, she downloads the image. Believing the image is the source of where the Smile Dog Creepypasta image came from, she's told to click on the image by Arthur Murphy, a seemingly normal person who emailed her offering to help amidst the spam mail.
After the image is opened it begins to talk by changing between clicks. After some initial taunting, it explains that it's acting out in this way because it makes Grace uncomfortable. It then tells Grace to convert it into a GIF file for ease of communication. When she does this it says that it isn't the source of the images, that it's a type of living curse, and that images can be stored within the brain as well as computers.
After this it pops up several times, beginning to solidify its control over the ChainmailChasers channel with less and less subtle visual glitches over time, cursing Grace with progressive psychological degradation, as well as turning on her computer to laugh and/or monologue through her speakers. After being fed up from being tormented, Grace tries anything she can to get rid of it prompting her to speak to it again. This is to no avail as it simply toys with Grace, tearing through her attempts to isolate it in a virtual machine with ease, turning her against Arthur, and solidifying its presence with more cognitohazardous imagery.
Months later it seemingly manifests an arm to physically attack Grace, and she's later seen throwing up blood into a bathroom sink, though it's unknown exactly how real these scenes are.

- In a YouTube Community tab reply, the entity says that it can be called anything, and that the closest thing it has to a name is "The Dragon."
- One of the many forms Smile Dog takes on during the video Interrogation heavily resembles Giygas.
- Contrary to the Creepypasta version of Smile Dog, the ChainmailChasers character is based on what appears to be a black Labrador Retriever instead of a Husky.
- The "beckoning hands" in the Smile Dog images seem to be part of the entity itself, according to promotional art.
- Smile Dog is at least 24 years old by the time of the series, but is likely far older.
- Teasers seem to imply that Smile Dog is similar to a basilisk, a European beast of legend said to bring death upon those who gaze into its eyes.
