Smiley is an anthropomorphic shark in the TV show Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. He only appears in one episode, High Stakes Sonic. He is a gambler and promotes the practice, only to then sell the suckers to Dr. Robotnik.
Appearance[]
Smiley physically appears as an anthropomorphic gray shark. He sports small, semicircle sunglasses perched on his snout and a massive, floppy brown hat with a long green feather sticking out from the top. His attire is a striped, green tuxedo with a yellow bowtie. Completing his outfit, he wears enormous brown shoes with tiny heels. Smiley's left hand holds his cane. He is also extremely tall for the average size of the characters in the show.
Biography[]
Smiley's past is completely unspecified, but he had a career working for Robotnik during the episode. In the episode he is well respected by Robotnik and was only scolded when he lost a game. "You know how to cheat so do it!" was the last thing Robotnik said on the phone call. Smiley was seen cheating the gambling sheep out of cash and still encouraging the concept to them. Smiley then led the sheep (who wanted double or nothing) to a street with a robot performer. Sonic burst in and won against the High Voltage Flimflammer and freed the sheep, only for them to immediately get herded back to the Casino Night Zone that cheats all of its games. Smiley, when Sonic fixes the games, teams up with the babysitter and kidnaps Tails. Sonic approaches Smiley in his pool and Smiley gets his attention and tells him about the race, and to throw it if he ever wants to see Tails again. He gets his raft popped by Sonic. Later, Smiley collects money for the bets on who will win the race, Grounder or Sonic. He remarks when a sheep says, "I bet my life on Sonic!" to which Smiley laughs and responds, "You are!" This is the last we hear or see of Smiley in the show.
Personality[]
Smiley has a very sly and untruthful attitude, but comes across as a genuinely nice guy, similar to how corrupt gamblers are in the real world (please don't gamble). He has little to no sympathy for anyone other than himself. He does have a very chilled attitude as well though, as no matter what happens to him, he still acts happy and affable. He can scold anyone that messes up though, and Louis was the butt of this when he said the quote at the top of the page in the beginning of the episode.
The lack of empathy implies that he is a sociopath that does anything as long as it benefits him. The benefit of working for Eggman is still unknown. Probably money. He is a liar which is shown from the game cheating and Robotnik taking the sheep from the race stadium. He is very charismatic and persuasive, getting the sheep to bet money for their lives.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Persuasion: Smiley was able to persuade the sheep to play gambling games even though time after time, they were negatively affected in some way. Smiley is a huge influence for Scratch and Grounder, and they take orders from him. He then coerced Sonic to give up hundreds of Mobiums to free Tails, and Sonic chose the ladder to free. Smiley is cunning and makes everyone easily influenced.
- Technological skills: Now even though Scratch and Grounder did all of the cheating, by relation he should be capable of screwing up the machines. He is also capable of operating the High Voltage Flimflammer, which while most robots in this show think for themselves, still need to be coded and operated.
- Drowning Immunity: While it is very minor and not even confirmed, the scene where Smiley is almost fully submerged in the pool hints at this given that he is indeed a shark.
