Smoke was a supporting character of the original Mortal Kombat video games. A member of the Lin Kuei with the ability of Smoke magic, he was captured by the Cyber Lin Kuei and converted into a cyborg.
Smoke was physically portrayed by Daniel Pesina in Mortal Kombat II, also portrayed the other ninjas in the same game. In Mortal Kombat 3, he was portrayed by Sal Divita (who also portrayed the other cyborgs in the same game and Scorpion in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero) as a cyborg and John Turk (who also portrayed the other ninjas and Shang Tsung in the same game) as a human.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Smoke was a member of the Lin Kuei Clan and a close friend of the younger Sub-Zero. As depicted in Mortal Kombat II, The pair went on a mission to Outworld together to kill Shang Tsung, but failed. Upon their return, they discovered that the Lin Kuei Grandmaster had began an initiative to transform their best warriors into cyborgs, having had already done so to Sektor and Cyrax. The two attempted to escape the process, but though Sub-Zero escaped, Smoke was not so fortunate.
Mortal Kombat 3[]
Smoke was transformed into a cyborg dubbed LK7T2, and served as a prototype of the Cyber Lin Kuei, along with Cyrax and Sektor. During Shao Kahn's invasion of Earthrealm, Smoke, stripped of his humanity, was programmed to hunt down his former friend during the invasion. Eventually tracking him down, Smoke battled and was defeated by Sub-Zero, who managed to free his soul, and the cyberised Smoke joined Raiden's chosen warriors. Unfortunately, Smoke was captured and rendered inert by Shao Kahn's forces, then locked away in the bowels of one of the tyrant's fortresses.
Alliance with Noob Saibot[]
Many years later, in Mortal Kombat: Deception, Smoke was discovered by Noob Saibot, who reactivated and reprogrammed the cyborg as his servant, so he could use him as the template for a new army of cyber demons. As they left the fortress, Smoke and Saibot were both aware of Sub-Zero following them and eventually attacked the ice ninja. In their non canon ending, Smoke restrained Sub-Zero before Noob split him in half. However in the main version of events, Smoke and Noob were thwarted by the intervention of Sareena, and they fled to attack another day.
Later, during Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, Smoke helped Noob Saibot stage a siege on the Lin Kuei temple, using his powers to transform Lin Kuei ninjas into shadow warriors. After several of them were defeated by Taven, Smoke challenged him directly. However, both he and his partner was defeated by the half god, and Sub-Zero hoped to restore them. In the Battle of Armageddon, Smoke is seen fighting on the Forces of Light's side, implying his humanity was restored.
In his Mortal Kombat: Armageddon ending, where he defeated Blaze, his nanobots grew and multiplied at an alarming rate, so much so that they were able envelop all of Edenia, transforming it into place of writhing grey material that calls itself Smoke.
Powers and Abilities[]
As a human, Smoke has the ability to emit smoke, most commonly seen as the smoky fumes that his human forms emit. He still seems to retain this ability in his cyborg form, though he does not seem to use it much. Smoke usually uses this ability to disappear or create a cloud of fumes that his opponent chokes on, making them open to an attack. After becoming a nanotech based cyborg, his body appears to be made of smoke or nanites emulating the appearance of smoke. Smoke also gained the ability to transform others into shadow warriors by flowing his gaseous mist into them.

Trivia[]
- Smoke was a hidden character in Mortal Kombat II, as was his cyborg self in the original version of Mortal Kombat 3. In the "Ultimate" version, Cyber Smoke was on the roster, while his human self was a unlockable character.
- Smoke and Noob are a team in Mortal Kombat: Deception's roster, sharing the same space, and are the sub-boss on it's arcade ladder.
- In his cut ending in Deception, Smoke's soul reacts badly to the Netherrealm, leading to his nanobots reformatting his body, presumably into his alternate form seen in Deception and Armageddon.
- The Mortal Kombat 3 version of Cyber Smoke appears as a possible fighter in Mortal Kombat 1's final chapter as a member of the Order of Darkness.
