“ | What the hell am I doing with my life. Why, am I of all these people, eating lunch alone in this room. Brad thinks he knows everything. Always targeting me. he knows I'm better than him. He's intimidated. Seb, that god damned pea brain. All he thinks about is his workout. Everyone knows intellect beats all. That Jen is so bloody annoying. She thinks she's got everyone at the tip of her fingertips. Asking me to do HER work for her. Sally is too kind. She's not going to go far in the real world. And that Demi, her lack of interest in anything pisses me off. I was a god damned scientist. Me and my mentor were so close to a BREAKTHROUGH. If only we had more time... How the hell did I go from experimenting with chemicals to serving disgusting snacks and beverages. They'll all get what they deserve. | „ |
~ The snack bar man expressing his hatred of his coworkers. |
The snack bar man is the main antagonist of Seamongrel and its sequel Porkbound. He was once a scientist, but later became the cashier of a snack bar in Sea Ecosystem Adventure park, a job which he loathed. He hated all of his coworkers, and vowed to make them pay, succeeding when he turned them all into feral human-sea creature hybrids. Later on he got a job working for a pork farmer named Ron but was fired for using the truck without permission, leading to him turning a quartet of bullies into monsters to kill them in revenge.
Appearance[]
The snack bar man is an adult man with black hair and a short black beard. As a aquarium employee he wore the standard uniform of a light blue shirt and black pants, but also has a light blue cap that casts a shadow over the upper half of his face, obscuring his eyes. As a truck driver he wears a dark grey shirt, black pants, and white baseball cap.
In the past, he had no hat and a shorter beard, and wore a white lab coat as well.
Biography[]
The snack bar man was once a scientist studying chemicals with his mentor. The two were close to a breakthrough in something, but ran out of time (which could be his mentor being killed by Lamu) before they could complete it, which he was extremely bitter over.
Seamongrel[]
Some time later, he got a job working at the Sea Ecosystem Adventure park, providing snacks and drinks to customers and staff. He always ate lunch alone, and kept a picture of him and his mentor in a closet in the storage room. He absolutely hated his job, thinking it was below him after his work as a scientist, and wondering how he even ended up with it. He hated his coworkers most of all, writing down all his complaints about them on a note which the player can find in the employee locker room.
He hated Brad for how he would always act like he knows everything and would target him, assuming Brad was intimidated by his intellect. He hated Seb for always talking about working out, considering him an idiot. He hated Jen for supposedly thinking she had everyone under her control and giving him her work. He hated Demi for her apathy towards everything. The only one he didn't despise was Sally, who he just thought was too kind-hearted to get anywhere in life. He vowed to make them all pay and give them "what they deserve." One day, he comes up with a virus that would mutate all of his coworkers into monstrous and feral human-sea creature hybrids, and likely spread it through the food he gave them.
At the very start of the game, he is seen standing at the snack bar, and tells Kim and Theo that he's out of snacks and drinks when interacted with. He is not seen at all afterwards, and presumably escaped the building while his creations were running amok.
Porkbound[]
The man at some point got a job as a delivery driver, working for a pig farmer named Ron, who lived with his wife Helena and their son Aaron. He began using the truck for his own purposes, at least twice, much to Ron's dismay. He also began stealing samples from the pig carcasses, though Ron didn't notice that. As a result he was fired. Deciding to take revenge on Ron, he convinced the bully Max, who Aaron had previously beaten up in a fight for insulting his deceased brother, and his friends Yana, Becky, and Gary to scare Aaron and possibly burn down the farm. He gave them treats laced with the chemicals he used on the Aquarium staff, which later turned them into pig monsters.
In an optional encounter, Aaron enters the farm’s shed and encounters the man in the middle of writing a note about his research. The Man tries to attack him but is given a well earned beating. Furious, the man flees and swears revenge, abandoning his note.
Trivia[]
- One of the bullies in Porkbound, Becky, after scaring Aaron, told him to "Lighten" up, in quotes, and that Max had a surprise for them. Considering it was unlikely that the bullies were just there to harass Aaron due to Max being particularly spiteful, it's possible the man was trying to convince them to burn down the farm.
- It's likely that Seamongrel takes place in the same universe as Hungry Lamu, one of the developer's previous games that was in a similar style and also featured a human-faced animal as the main antagonist. As such, it's possibly that the snack bar man's virus is the same one that mutated Lamu, who is implied to have been human, and he may have even been directly responsible for infecting Lamu with the virus in the first place.
- His complaints about his coworkers tie into what animals they become and their behaviors:
- He assumes that Brad is intimidated by him, and he becomes the Largemouth Bass, the weakest enemy in the game.
- He's annoyed by Seb's constant talk of working out, and he becomes the Hammerhead Shark, the most violent of the mutants.
- He claims that Jen thinks she has everyone at her fingertips, and she becomes the Egg-yolk Jellyfish, who attacks with the stingers on the tips of her tentacles.
- He states that Sally is too nice, and she becomes the Leatherback Turtle, who is the only enemy that doesn't go out of her way to attack Kim and Theo.
- Finally, he gripes about Demi not caring about anything, and she becomes the Bottlenose Dolphin, who only attacks Kim and Theo at the very last minute.
