Poor Clear Sky. You never were much of a leader.
~ Snake mocking Clear Sky for his past failures during confrontation.
Why don't we just leave? These mouse-hearts don't appreciate you, Slash. Let them try to make it on their own!
~ Snake advising Slash after majority of his rogues turned against him following dogs' attack on the camp.

Snake is a major antagonist in the Dawn of the Clans, a prequel arc in the Warriors book series and a minor antagonist in super edition Riverstar's Home.

He is a rogue and member of Slash's group. Formerly a rogue from Twolegplace and later a member of Clear Sky's group, Snake got exiled by his leader for blaming him for One Eye's takeover and joined Slash some time after.

History[]

Snake first appears when Thunder asks Clear Sky about the newest members of the group, with the latter introducing the brown tabby, who is hiding among the bushes. Clear Sky recalls how the rogue decided to join his group knowing that he'd be well fed, although Jackdaw's Cry claims that Snake was already well fed back in Twolegplace. Snake then joins Clear Sky on border patrol, during which they come across Tom with his kits, prompting the brown tabby to get in a defensive stance. He suggests giving the trespasser a scratch to prevent him from any future visits, but Clear Sky calms him down, assuring him that there was no need for a fight. Snake whispers to his leader that kits present with Tom don't seem to be his, as they look like raised in the wild, but Clear Sky replies that he knows that and nudges him back sharply. After Tom leaves, Clear Sky tells Snake that this is how border patrols should look and as they make their way back to the camp, the rogue asks eagerly if there will be a battle.

Upon returning to the camp, Snake briefly sifts through the prey pile before joining his group members in the battle training, offering to fight first. As Falling Feather is chosen to be his opponent, he takes his place opposite of her and listens to Clear Sky's instructions. When asked if he's ready, Snake replies in affirmative and starts circling Falling Feather, before lunging at her. Although he manages to dig his claws into her neck, she manages to throw him out of the ring.

Later on, he is present on a meeting at Fourtrees and when the first Great Battle begins, Snake attacks Tall Shadow, before attacking Thunder. He digs his claws in the young tom's flank, but the latter manages to break free and grabs him by the scruff, shaking him. When Thunder fights against Clear Sky, he manages to trip him over Snake. The brown rogue faces Thunder again, jumping on him from the great rock, however the latter manages to defend himself, causing Snake to crash onto the ground. When Thunder tries to flee, he gives chase but the former manages to escape through the tunnels. When Thunder returns with reinforcements, Snake clashes with him again and after brief taunting, the rogue gets hauled off by Lightning Tail and thrown into a group of fighting cats. Following Fircone's death, Snake is seen fighting Frost, whom he kills. Once the battle has ended, Snake is confused and asks is it over. He approaches Fircone's corpse, unsure about his state, but Clear Sky tells him that dead won't come with them. The tom helps Leaf onto his paws, carrying him back to the camp.

Days after the battle, Snake attends another meeting at the Fourtrees with Clear Sky's group, during which he reveals that he had seen a dead fox which had symptoms of the forest sickness Tall Shadow was talking about. Much time later, when One Eye drives Clear Sky out of his own territory, the former leader scans his cats, with Snake turning his back on him. Following One Eye's defeat and Clear Sky's return, Snake confronts his leader about One Eye's takeover and blames him for it, as well as points out that every cat had been scarred with One Eye's mark. Despite Clear Sky's attempt to apologise, Snake throws himself on the gray tom and claws his face, although the leader manages to push the tabby off. Before he can attack again however, Sparrow Fur and several cats lunge themselves at him, battering and pinning him to the ground. After they release him on Clear Sky's requests, the leader gives Snake a choice to either follow his lead or leave, with the brown tabby choosing the latter option.

Days after leaving Clear Sky's group, Snake is revealed to have joined Slash's group instead. He guards Star Flower alongside Swallow and during Gray Wing's attempt to free her, the two rogues are approached by Lightning Tail. Once Leaf has made a diversion, Snake sends Swallow to investigate it, facing Lightning Tail himself. After an exchange of threats and taunts both toms fight each other, although the black tom emerges victorious. Snake then escapes deep into the forest in hopes of reaching Star Flower, but he trips over brambles and Gray Wing manages to pin him to the ground. The dark gray tom warns him to abandon his goal of recapturing Star Flower, before letting an enraged Snake go. Some time later, Snake, alongside Beetle and Splinter, accompanies Slash during his attempt of stealing prey from Clear Sky's group and during Clear Sky and Sparrow Fur's confrontation with the rogues, Snake mocks his former leader. When Sparrow Fur launches herself on Slash, Snake attacks her in turn, which allows Slash to knock the she-cat off of him and pin her to the ground. Snake then urges his leader to kill the young she-cat but before Slash can do so, Clear Sky intervenes and agrees to give them the prey if they stop the attack. Following that, the rogues leave satisfied.

After dogs' attack on the rogues' camp, Snake witnesses many of his fellow rogues stand up to their leader and join the Early Settlers. The brown rogue approaches his leader and urges him to leave them to fend for themselves, to which Slash agrees and along with Beetle, Splinter and Swallow, leave the destroyed camp. During the Gathering on which Slash's former rogues are officially accepted into the five groups, the rogue leader disrupts the event with his followers. Snake, Beetle and Splinter face the groups during Slash's announcement and after he finishes, the rogues leave, before kidnapping Gray Wing's son, Black Ear. After being caught up with by the rescue party, Snake and the rest of Slash's followers face them with bristled fur, ready to fight. However, Slash instead orders Swallow to leave the kit, prompting his rogues to follow him into the forest.
